"The result of mixing socialism with capitalism is feudalism." *
"Atheism is the religion whose followers are easiest to troll"No such thing.
Well, that puts the has China betrayed the Revolution question to rest, and the answer is a resounding yes.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.^ Was there ever any question?
Silly idealists.
There's always doubters.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.I rather like the fact that we can't simply blame all their problems on being dirty communists anymore.
The problem with pure communism is that it only works on paper. When faced with reality it has to change. China's been changing to face reality; in a world where most are capitalist to some degree they have to bend. And business men don't like to be left out of the loop that keeps them rich. Either they're in government or bribing the hell out of the officials
Though with the news I saw on the thread about China's ghost towns I'm wondering how this is going to affect this guy's position. China's currently headed for a bubble burst if they can't start filling up those houses, or start building houses people can afford to live in.
@Gacek: My thoughts exactly.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.China somehow has mixed the worst of both worlds...
Oh, China. They're struggling and slowly trying to evolve...
Honestly, this might help. China's trying to develop workable Communism, and not going to war against businesses is a Great Leap Forward.
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts. Those sneaky Chinese Communists... Always trying to swipe our stuff.
Can you say, "Communist China no swiping?"
Communist China no swiping!
Communist China no swiping!
''Communist China..
你都来不及!你永远也不会还清你的债务!
Aw, man...
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Well, it's certainly very suspicious. We'll see how the shift in the ruling elite is like. I do have to caution that while we might not like the richest guy becoming part of the Party, that there isn't a reason to block a man simply because he is rich. However, if he's one of those usual mass-bribery officials... maybe he gets executed in 10 years for corruption anyway! :D
Well, they have revealled their secret plan at last. They did this so they could power their country from Chairman Mao spinning in his grave.
Dutch LesbianSorta, I mean, if the congress were structured much like how some university classes I've seen are it would be okay. That is, some poor, mostly middle class and a few rich people.
The only person who thinks China is still communist is this guy.

These days, people on the mainland care about money...and little else.
"The problem with pure communism is that it only works on paper." Wrong. I can't post links right now, but go to Google and type Shopenhauer Troll. Click on the third link, then go to rule 33: "it works in theory but not in practice".

A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.So basically, Screw the Rules, I Make Them! plus Screw the Rules, I Have Money! equals china?
I'm baaaaaaackChina still owns most of the Chinese banks.
So the joke is on us.
They also have a meritocratic system that stream line succesful athletes and architects. In fact the vas majority of the member of the Politurbo have degrees in things such as Hydroelectric Engeeneiring, for example, Hu Jin Tao.
Also communism and capitalism dont have to be incompatible.
And so what? They get a rich guy to have a vote against all those holly cows. Big deal. He hasnt even been elected to the standing politurbo and I bet you he wont be. If anything he will get the same power a congressmen enjoys in the US, which is porbably less than what his money already affords him.
On the other side our country is run by fucking corporations and Lobbysts, and apparently Israel.
So once again, the joke is on us.
But go ahead and feel good about yourselves by making up un-witty jokes.
Now U might wonder, why do I get so worked up about it??? Because we are doing this sort of victory lap when we get news that a powerful Chinese tycon gets to be one out of 300 members of an important political body, while we have practically 50% of our congress run by corporate puppets.
This are the sort of diversions that keeps us ways from realising what the real issues are.

I will always cherish the chance of a new beggining.- Marxist definition of Capitalism: system, mode of production, where the means of production (machinery, building, infrastructures, information networks) are owned by a powerful minority, and where all the majority owns is themselves: they rent their workforce to the powerful, who allow them to use the stuff they own.
- Marxist definition of Communism: you work at something, you own that something: the means of production are collectively owned by everyone involved in their use, everyone who spends their strength, smarts and life into using them to produce stuff has a say in what is produced and how.
- Classical definition of Capitalism: a free-market system. Pure Capitalism would be completely unregulated laissez-faire. An incomplete theoretical model woul make this seem pretty cool, but as you add factors you notice there need to be some restraints, either implicit/unwritten or explicit (enforced by governmental, popular etc. groups).
- Classical definition of Communism: ????
So yeah, II and III might not be incompatible, but the "Law of Accumulation of Capital" ("all things equal, the richer tend to grow richer faster than the poor": it's a descriptive rule, and is subject to conditions, but the freer the market the stronger it seems to be) makes that balance kinda hard to strike without lots of help.
A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.
China is not really marxist. Every leader in China makes a "contribution" to Chinese communism which is not related to Stalinism, Maoism, Marxism, or Leninism anyways. But that is just semantics.
And in my opinion, they arent any less communist than the american right is christian, or than we are truly democratic. But I am mixing up different discussions.
This all might sound contradictory and all, but rudimentary knowladge of China´s history and demography quickly give away the need for a centralised and beurocratic goverment that can effectively hold the country together. The communist party, as a parallel entity of the state, does that, while using capitalism as a tool and not a goal in itself.
China has no qualms about nationalising what it wants when it wants it, or privatising what it wants when it wants it. In certain way is more sovereing than us when it comes to the power balance between goverment and corporations.

Communism!
If Liang Wengen, 55, is chosen by the party's 2012 congress, he will be the first entrepreneur to join the body, which in effect rules the country.
The BBC's Martin Patience in Beijing says this would be a hugely symbolic shift in the party's view of business.
Construction magnate Mr Liang topped both the Forbes and Hurun rich lists with a wealth of more than $9bn (£6bn).
The media reports said he had completed a vetting procedure for the 300-strong body and was on track for approval by the congress in October next year.
Our correspondent says China's wealthy are increasingly being courted by the party, which only started allowing businessmen into its ranks a decade ago.
Mr Liang's company Sany, which manufactures cranes and excavators, has benefited in recent years from China's building boom.
