Rewatching the anime, is it me, or some of Kodaka's mannerisms and gestures are kinda effeminate? MIND, I'm not saying he's gay or something; if anything, I can empathize because, growing up without a father and raised by women, I took several gesture tics of a feminine nature, and since Kodaka apparently grew without male friends, with a distant father, taking care of a sister and idolizing his mother, I can see why would he sometimes gesture and have body language that reminds me of a girl's.

I just skimmed over the ninth novel issue (I can't read Japanese) and I have some heavy spoilers:

I rewatched this show with Funimation's dub, and I think they did pretty well for something that will never sound quite natural in another language. (It's the sort of dub where you need to be versed in the culture of origin to some extent.) I picked up many of the cues for what Kodaka and Yozora show themselves to be in season 2 that I missed the first time. The writer knew what he was doing all right, though I still feel some of the reveals are jarring and I don't see why Kodaka would be feared rather than merely shunned.

I showed the first episode to my sister to see the reaction of someone not versed (at all) in the medium. I expected the ecchiness to be a problem, but what she commented on most was the art style (especially Sena's fang) and the long conversations. I may try to get her to watch the second, but it certainly reminded me that this show takes a while (as in, a full season) to show its true force.

A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.

All has been quiet on the western front, but apparently novel 10 has just hit, and it looks like it might only be one or two more volumes until the series is over. Apparently some of Yozora's home life is revealed and stuff, but details are vague beyond that.

I have read Volume 10 also has a strong emphasis on Yukimura.

You know, I actually almost hope that the series leaves the romance up in the air. I think it would suit it the same way it kinda worked in Higurashi. I guess it helps that I think the girl most likely to win is the one I think just needs to learn what the hell friendship is and not worry about a boyfriend for the next five years or so.

Spoilers for the final book are out and... Wow, holy heck.

Apparently Kodaka and Yukimura are dating. While Kodaka apparently loves Rikka, Yukimura confessed first, so Kodaka just went with that.

And as for Yozora and Sena? They end up becoming real friends apparently with each other. Just like the Haganai game, except without the lesbian marriage.

I can't help but snerk. I'd be okay with that, I guess. Well, Rika kinda getting screwed over for a dumb reason is a little silly though.

Excellent! I've always felt that Kodaka had better chemistry with Yukimura and Rika than he ever had with Yozora and Sena so any ending where Kodaka don't end up with the latter two is win in my book. If this ends up being a Yukimura/Kodaka/Rika triangle, I'd be all for it.

Now watch my hopes and dreams be crushed when we get the entire spoilers for the final book.

How was the second season by the way? I never got around to watching that. Pity that Sena didn't win apparently. Especially since she is the best girl.

Any girl that is not Rika is not best girl, though Yukimura comes close.

That's funny. Last I checked Rika was the worst girl.

Nah, Rika's the best. Yozora and Sena both tie for worst girls.

Sena is alright, but Rika is awesome. She's the only one who's actually a consistently decent person.

Last I watched Rika only existed to sprout out sex jokes and was arguably the flattest member of the cast. I take it she gets better come NEXT?

Chariot: Pretty much, yeah. She gets some great development and is probably the most perceptive and empathic person in the club. She's also the only one that catches on to Kodaka kind of being a dick and purposefully ignoring that all the girls like him which was a pretty good scene.

"I love someone else, but I'm involving myself with this other person instead because she spoke first and... I'm a wet rag that moves around wherever I'm pushed"? What the fucking fuck, Kodaka. That's even unfair to Yukimura, since you're with her out of basic apathy rather than any actual interest you have on her. That's hardly the basis for a healthy lasting relationship.

Arha Since: Jan, 2010
#595: Jun 26th 2014 at 3:34:14 PM

Well, that's nothing new for Kodaka. I assume it's just a temporary thing.

Unh, guys, in regards to the discussion, I'm pretty sure given what I've read that the whole relationship with Yukimura thing is an Imagine Spot and that he doesn't actually start dating her. Sorry to burst any bubbles. Although I could be mistaken.

Again I'm not 100% sure about any of what I just said, it was just what I read in the discussion that was taking place around the time the novel was released.

I have read this isn't even the last novel, and there'll be an 'epilogue' novel after it.

Epilogue: Kodaka gets hit by a bus, develops amnesia and when he wakes up he dyes his hair and becomes a normal, popular student that actually thinks about the needs of others.
