A Game of Gods: Taskforce Sifuri

Go To

Long ago, an ancient superweapon, capable of shaping worlds, changing the laws of physics, and even influencing life and death, was lost. It was another casualty of a world-shattering war, that saw the deployment of indescribable horrors and carnage on a galactic scale. Its name was Sifuri, and, as the ashes settled on the remains of cities and combatants, it was decided that some things were best forgotten, and Sifuri faded from memory as its creators set about rebuilding and reconstuituting all that had turned to ashes. For billions of years, Sifuri lay abandoned and alone on a distant world, safely out of the ands of its creators and never to be used again.

But now, things are beginning to change. The embers of war are begining to stir. A powerful force looms on the horizon, and Sifuri may be all that stands between it and the destruction of its creators. Two criminals, seeking to atone for their misdeeds, assemble two competing teams- one based around the supernatural, the the other around the scientific- to recover the artefact. It will be a long and perilous quest across the multiverse to recover Sifuri... but will the forces of magic or science prevail?

Hello once more, and welcome to the signup thread for A Game Of Gods: Taskforce Sifuri. Now, the first thing that you're probably wondering is why exactly we need another spinoff. The answer is that this was initially going to be a plot in the current Infinities game, but due to my worry that the mini-epic would would take too long, I decided to spin it off into its own game. That said, this game is extremely close to Infinities, moreso than TOTG was to the original AGOG. Because of that, there will be several crossovers between the two. Besides that, all the same rules in AGOG, and general RPing etiquette should apply.

Signups

Naturally, the biggest 'gimmick', so to speak, of this RP is the fact that characters who have science-based powers are pitted against those who have magic based powers. I'm really hoping for even teams for this, so if we have too many people on one side than some people may be given control of a second character for the opposite team. Characters who use both magic and science, such as Magitek, will be admitted on a case-by-case basis.

  • Name: (self-explanatory)
  • Universe: (series they come from)
  • Background: (brief bio of their past, motivations, etc.)
  • Powers: (What they can do- keep it between 1-3 on the Super Weight scale)
  • Personality: (Also self-explanatory).

The game itself may not open for a while, so don't hold your breath. This is a way of seeing how may people want to sign up.

One thing before I get home and finally post that signup because my sinuses are giving me a break:

For all those Jojo's out there, would Ripple count as magic, or science? It's VAMPIRE SLAYING POWERS, so I'm opted to say magic, but again i'm not a MEGA SUPER JOJO EXPERT who has to estimate the exact force of Star Platinum's punches.

I'm gonna say Magic Science.

Although Ripple has some scientific basis, but it's very magical... gah, don't know. Although just because you're on Science doesn't mean you have to make precise calculations.

I'd count it as magic, it's not really scientific and Ripple-users are called Mystics in-universe according to the sub I watched. So it isn't thought of in-universe as science either.

Not a GM though, so I don't know.

Also my memories of Jojo are hazy right now.

Well, in order to use any kind of spells, she needs to assemble her rifle, plug it to her neck, and pronounce the incantation while she aims. She can't use any spell without the rifle. Also, eventually she might run out of ammo, which would basically cause her to use her own memories to power up the rifle.

Most of the spells work on a single target, except for the Blinder and the Locator. Naturally, due to the nature of sniper rifles, being shot with a spell can have quite nasty effects. The strongest one, the Ripper (which basically shoots a magic buzzsaw), if aimed carefully, can cut a human-sized target in half. However, most of her spells aren't combat oriented.

I've only seen the Burner and the Boiler used while attempting to cook, which caused a bread to explode and a boiled meal to end up burnt respectively.

[up] Well then, I suppose that's fine. One can dodge them, right? They're not 'super speed of light' bullets, are they?

[up][up] Magic, then.

would Ripple count as magic, or science?

I would count it as magic. While Araki likes to take his powers and see how he can stretch how versatile they are through pretty solid logic, it is still the ability to turn your breathing into energy that mimics the sun. Sounds pretty magical to me.

  • Name: Joseph Joestar
  • Universe: Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure
  • Background: Born in Depression Era New York City, Jojo managed to get by relatively nicely from an impossibly beautiful human being old family friend of her Grandmother, Erina Joestar. Then, Shit Happened, as an old family friend tells him that he had become a vampire, and Speedwagon is dead. Shit Happens, and Speedwagon is revealed to be alive. However, this is when the Pillar Men come into play, which are basically super vampires. Joseph gets the threat of death by poison from two of the Pillar Men. Forced to train with a new "friend", Caesar, and Caesar's own master, Lisa Lisa who is also Joseph's own mother, to become more powerful in the way of the Ripple and defeat the Pillar Men, Joseph embarks on a mighty quest!

For the sake of this not becoming a summary of the entire plot of Battle Tendency, I'll just sum it up by saying he kills the Pillar Men and Tragedy Happens. I'll explain this shit IC at some point I swear.

  • Powers: Joseph is a user of a strange technique known as the Ripple- essentially self-controlled breathing that translates into sun punches. While this is devastating to Undead (at least those that are weak to sunlight), Joseph isn't quite as skilled in the Ripple as his lost friend, Caesar, or his great grandfather Jonathan Joestar. However, he uses his Ripple powers in a much more devastating way: Ripple energy can be transfused into various objects, such as rocks, his own American Clackers (two sets of steel clackers), and other various objects (even strands of hair!). This allows for a very versatile set of abilities. He's also able to infuse the Ripple into punches and other such attacks. His only known weapon is the American Clackers, as mentioned earlier. But his most devastating attack makes all these other abilities pale. It is the very secret art of the Joestars, a nearly foolproof ability.

Sprinting in the opposite direction of the enemy.

he also gets a stand in part 3 but this isnt part 3 joseph so blaaaaaaah

  • Personality: Hotblooded, rash, and confrontational, Joseph is a wild young man. While he tends to fool around a bit, and doesn't take too many things very seriously, this does not mean he is an idiot- He is actually an incredibly savvy person. He judges people based on actions, not by who they're affiliated with. If they're against him, he'll still kick their asses, but he holds very little prejudice towards anyone. He's a surprisingly friendly person, at least to those that he considers friends.

Yeah probably.

Though there is an uneven amount of Science VS Magic

May introduce a Science kebobber if I stick around.

And I found the perfect one.

Trip, quick answer. Which one of these does Joseph identify with the most: the pen, the sword or the shield?

Hmm... give me a quick sentence describing the choices. I've never actually been asked this question, so...

It's just a sword, a pen or a shield.

Trip Since: Mar, 2012
#1320: Sep 20th 2014 at 7:52:21 AM

He'd probably take the pen, and infuse it with Ripple so he can use it like a throwing knife.

Sword-Attacking.

Shield-Defending.

Pen-Intellect. (Or planning I guess?)

I believe Strat means what will Joseph choose between those things.

Trip Since: Mar, 2012
#1322: Sep 20th 2014 at 7:55:17 AM

Well there you go. Definitely Pen.

Though more a Pen-Sword combo? Pensword. I'd use it.

Pen for stabby types, shield for sledding, and sword for, uh... probably backstratching.
