A lot of high schools have that rule. Something to do with gang violence or some such bullshit.

[up] I believe that's the case.

High school's kind of a mixed bag for me. Some classes are great, some suck ass. Same applies to teachers. I know some awesome people as well as some complete dickwads. Lunches...questionable. I'm still coming out of the third quarter of my junior year with mostly A's, so I guess I'll be fine as far as grades go.

School itself focuses way too much on athletics (and probably loves football and wrestling a bit more than it should) but I live in a very small town so that shouldn't be surprising. Student body's mostly middle class, some are farm kids and some aren't. School is a bit overcrowded due to the fact that it houses grades 6-12, but the total student population is only around 400. Kinda nice, because it's easier to get to know people.

I...guess that makes sense. The schools pretty okay, although I can't stand my religion class, but that's an entirely different story

I go to a secondary college in Australia. It's got about 500 or so students, and it' pretty much your typical high school.

I always smell some kind of perfume or something by the lockers though.

I could talk all day about my school, as there is quite a lot of interesting things about it. I'm a senior, and I have a rather easy (well, for me, anyway) schedule, as some of the classes I have are Culinary Arts, Studio Art, and Drama. There's two high schools in my town, and my school tries to be rivals with the other school, but they don't really care much. I appear to be somewhat well-known among my peers. Despite that, I talk to very few people.

My high-school is too damn small. To the point where all the 'nerds', 'hipster' and 'goth' cliques are merged into one class of outcasts. (The quotes are used out of disdain for the labeling system, labels are almost always inaccurate and judgmental)

This is actually a bad thing as we are all too close, to date or really move on past our group of friends. I try to branch out by joining teams and clubs, but my complete and utter disdain for teenage drama stops me from being popular. I suppose I am well known but I am NOT popular.

I just want to meet more people like me in person. Especially since I view all my friends as family ergo undateable. (This has a side effect of me falling for almost ANYONE similar to me)

My friend, a lesson to be learned is that in high school, the only people who legitimately care about popularity as an actual concept are those who would consider themselves outcasts and those who watch way too much children's television/movies.

One thing about high school was how different it was IRL compared to the movies.

There was never this ALL THE GUYS LOOOOOOVE HER!!! cheerleader chick or OMG SO HAWT heartthrob guy or jerk jock bro and his squad of goonies. If anything most people just let each other be sticking to their own clique and while there were social structures/dramas within each clique the whole overlying hierarchy thing never happened. You got "Prom queen/King "popular by standing out in class(in a good way) or being an athlete of some sort.

That said each clique sort of had it's own set of rules and such...some really did take High school drama to absurd levels(Band and the ghetto kids being some of the most biggest sources) but it was all rather easy to avoid, although nasty rumors would spread like crazy depending on which clique you hung with.

What is funny in High Schools are the teachers being as bad as the students in their clique tendency. It never got to where there was legit animosity between the teachers at my school(although a few wouldn't hesitate to rag on the more conservative ones to their students and this one teacher had a reputation of being a right-wing cheerleader) but the other major high school in my town ahd teachers that wouldn't even talk to one another.

In all honesty, all of the juiciest and scandalous stuff happens in middle school, since so many people are in awkward transition stages and pretending to be someone they're not.

It's time to backpedal! I used to really care about popularity and the dating game when I was a Freshman, but I ended up with a reality check after I was rude to someone I cared about.

After that reality check, I learned that people are people across the board, and I tried to be a much less judgemental person. Yet, I managed to ape being popular long enough to be considered the ahh Cool Loser. I got invited to parties and everything!

Now, as a Junior, I keep a much tighter group of friends. I don't do parties, I just have movie/video game nights every 2 weeks at my house. I am happier now that I stopped trying to suck up to people I didn't care about.

(I am having trouble articulating my point without sounding conceited and arrogant about my delusions of High School grandeur)

Senior here. My school is way overpopulated and most of us are poor or lower middle class kids (a lot of the middle class kids or rich kids are not well liked though...although admittedly it's likely because quite a few of them are assholes). Surprisingly enough I seem to at least be mildly popular despite essentially being a goth kid (although it's proBably because most of the popular kids are totally fine with me because they have known me since elementary school). It's also probably because my school while it does have cliques they are usually very small, and are tailored to the clubs...or much to my annoyance the stereotypical ghetto racial groups. There are areas were you will see a lot of kids of different fashion senses blending in with eachother (I actually was part of a small mixed popular clique back in junior year because they saw me as the quiet shy guy rather then the creepy goth kid). The drama is pretty standard. This year has been a stressful mess on my personal life and grades but thankfully my friends are keeping me sane and are helping me.

I only found out after I'd graduated that a lot of people in high school seemed to know who I was and liked me. Not enough to want to be friends with me, but hey, they liked that I was polite and held doors.

Ah the ethnic(or rather cultural) cliques I never liked too much because they tended to be made of stuck up a-holes/racists. Even worse is when they try to be your friend just because you fall into their demographic, like honestly we wouldn't even be talking if I wasn't so why do you think that alone should make us friends? To be fair they're usually formed because of common cultural interest and surprise surprise people of the same ethnicity kind share that. But I kind of actively avoided the "black table," since I didn't have many of the same interests and thought a lot of the people there were pretty mean/ignorant anyway, though a few were really nice. I wasn't the only black guy to do so either lol.

I did have a friend who was Chinese but said the Korean clique were snobbish jerks that thought they were too good for other Asians. Of course being Chinese he might be kind of sort of biased but one of our best friends who was Korean never really hung with them during school either despite knowing them on the Tennis team, I guess then he would. I just assumed you know, they preferred to hang with people they could speak and express themselves more comfortably with. That's kind of what people consider most when searching for company.

I think these cliques can be pretty dangerous in how one's view of society can be formed.

I'd hate to revive a dead thread, but I have a post related to high school.

This year, I'm entering ninth grade as a Freshman for the first time. I barely passed eighth grade math on my own, so I'm a bit anxious about ninth grade math. Besides that, I now have to go back to physical education, which is by far my worst class. Anyway, I was just looking for advice on how to get through 9th grade.

I know that feel, yo. I stopped developing at an early age - I used to be good at most stuff until about 5th grade. It very slowly went downhill.

Not saying it's gonna be the same for you. If it's a different math, maybe you'll be better at it!

I'm a senior this year, and I'm in general math. Even that's difficult for me.

I'm in a fairly normal high school...

I don't mean to brag (this is going to sound like bragging) but if you're willing to hear it, as long as we're talking about math... I finished AP Calculus bc as a junior last year, which is calculus 1 and 2 college courses combined, and now my school is out of math classes for me. I told you it would sound like bragging. I stink at English, though!

How to get through 9th grade: Get into the habit of working late at night, up to 10 at first. Force yourself to work for hours at a time, and you will get used to it. Any class can give an A if you work hard enough (except English courses), and just stay determined. The only difference between a standard Algebra 1 kid and an Algebra 2 honors kid is level of effort and will. I've been on both sides, taking virtual classes to get from the bottom class up to the top one, and anyone can do it as long as they try hard enough. Effort, true effort, can do anything.

Even just one is better than most. If you believe in yourself, then you overload yourself with work, which causes you to get used to lots of work and have an awesome resume by the time you finish college.

HEY EVERYBODY! HOW YA DOING? Welp. I wanted to talk about high school and i couldn't find any good forums... Except TV tropes... Which is strange but nevermind. High School isn't that bad... At least where I live. Most HS's here are almost the same as middle school,,, or well, the building is the same... Even so... It isn't that hard to survive, especially with people like the ones I know... altough school projects... Yeah... Not good there.
