Trapt is a game that I have not played, but I have read up on and saw You Tube clips on. If you would like to know details of the game and you don't mind spoilers, just look here.

Man, the game just gives the feeling of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't". Especially because there's four endings to the game, with three of them being bad (two of them are also evil), and the one good ending could be considered a Downer Ending or a Bittersweet Ending, depending on how depressed you want to be.

I have to say that the Player Character Princess Allura/Alicia (I wonder if the English version named her Allura because Alicia sounded too generic and uncool in English) strikes me as a major case of The Woobie. I know that she is supposed to be a Villain Protagonist, but she doesn't seem to be particularly villainous. In fact, I would be tempted to call her an Anti-Hero, somewhere between type IV and V, as well as some type I thrown in.

Why? Well, let's see. She gets accused of murdering her father King Olaf by her evil stepmother Catalina (sounds like something out of a fairy tale). Her friend and handmaiden Rachel helps her escape, and the princess, via a Deal with the Devil, gets the ability to set traps (as well as a strange-looking arm device that reminds me very much of Witchblade). She did this so she could survive the assassins that keep coming for her. Also, I don't know how old she is, but she looks like a child, one who is frightened and has reason to be. To make a long story short, she discovers that almost every single person has been using her in one form or another and that they certainly do not have her best interests at heart! By the end of it all, if you get the good ending, only she and Jais are left standing. Fortunately, Jais was the only one out of everyone who was not using her and who truly has her best interests at heart. Also, there are points that show the princess looking sad, and it goes a long way to proving that she is not some psychopath who kills people and monsters For the Evulz.

All things considered, she looks like someone who seriously needs a hug!

This is that game where the whole point is leaving horrible deathtraps all over a castle and watching poor bastards fall into them and die horribly.

I keep wanting to buy this game, but I haven't seen it since '06 or so.

A large majority of the enemies sent after the princess are assassins who would be more than happy to kill her if she didn't kill them first. Also, an interesting detail is how as the princess, you will have to run around because she really cannot fight without the traps and she can be killed off pretty quick. Fortunately, you can place the traps in different spots even while you're being attacked (don't worry, the game will effectively pause while you put the traps somewhere else on the map). This game seems to be like Night Trap or Double Switch cranked Up To Eleven.

Well, that's good. smile

If you like being sadistic, you should consider checking out Deception, Kagero Deception II, and Deception III Dark Delusion. Trapt is considered part of the series.

Raising Satan eh? Sounds fun. Pretty much the only other game I played that let you be the bad guy was Overlord, and that was shit.

Did these games get an EU release? They seem kinda Japan-only.

Hm... an unrelated suggestion for the OP:

You've been starting conversations about less mainstream older titles, which I think is quite admirable. However, because there may not be many tropers who played each game you might want to consolidate them into a single 'Obscure Old Games' thread or something to avoid cluttering up the front page.

Re: Trapt

It's actually part of a series. It's the newest and most polished of the games but you might want to check out the earlier installments.

Any game after the first is good. Very underrated game. Incredibly cathartic, if fucking hard.

[up][up] Well, I'm happy to see someone appreciates my efforts. grin Really, if I didn't start up conversations about old, obscure games, then who would? Well, I can try to make a thread that puts the posts together, but I can promise you, it will not happen very quickly. I need to point out that I don't know all the tricks seen on these posts, like putting a You Tube clip right on the post, somehow moving a post that you didn't make to another thread, etc. How do you do that stuff?

Omega Kross, if you are serious about buying the game, you may want to take a look at this.

I saw this thread and thought that a thread for the Music subforum had somehow gotten misplaced. *

Oh, I know! smile I kept seeing the stuff about the music pop up. It makes it so irritating to have to go through that just to get to the stuff about the game, and not the music! just bugs me

Then, perhaps we should make a redirect to a "Deception Series" forum discussion from here, or something?

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...
