[up][up][up][up][up] See, I just recommended TV-Nihon because, from what I've heard, Over-Time tends to make a lot of translation errors and typos because of they way they rush out their subs, not to mention the stuff they outright make up ("Forever Silver," anyone?).

They do make mistakes at times, not nearly as much as you make it sound though, however they are also willing to edit their subs if people point them out. I dont think TV-Nihon fixes their subs as quickly.

And the edits? Well thats a big YMMV, that one Forever Silver part was something they threw in but thats like what...once? The other times could be argued in their favor. (They don't seem to be a fan of engrish that makes no sense) Also they actually have no problem talking about why they feel that way. Go and ask the TV-Nihon guys why they kept in all the "Tatchi" or "Space KITAAAAA" and they'll just go "IT SOUNDS COOL TROLL." and blow you off.

Give me a few typos and explained small things with speed over slow, "flashy" Yatsus, Kisamas, Tatchis, Damens, Chorrisu, motosa moto saiyaka, o-baka-chan-tatchi, kanjougata, shitsurenja, ANNND Niidoro Buudoro, any day.

OK... You say that Over-Time making up things in their scripts is somehow in their favor. Shouldn't the goal of a translation be to accurately reflect the source material, though?

And as for "happening rarely," the same could be said of TV-Nihon's raw terms. The only part of your list that comes up regularly is the "-tachi" suffix, and they will translate that from time to time. The "Space kita" incident you mentioned was, as explained on their blog, largely a placeholder until the show aired and they were sure of the context of the phrase.

Erm...

Over-Time does translations quite well. They do in fact do more - I consider what they're doing is borderline localization. For instance, the nuts joke is simply lost on TV Nihon (and they even use bikkiru), whereas the puns are intact while at the same time properly used in Over-Time (Awww nuts!). While they do insert some stuff, most of them are pretty much in context, as opposed to "we know more Japanese than you do" TV Nihon. Note that simply translating words isn't a good thing, as you'll end up with a stilted sentence (as seen on TV Nihon).

Translation errors? That's pretty much rare in Over-Time, and when it does happen, they actually admit about it and edit them quickly (and because they're soft subs, you can pretty much edit them yourself). TV-Nihon? They too also suffer from translation errors, and at the same time like to leave out words that have English equivalents because they think "it's cool". So essentially they act like teenagers.

And let's not forget about encode and video quality... Oh and kisama-tachi-yatsus. And annoying typefaces/fonts. And pretty much squeezing their names on the credits.

Really, the only thing TV Nihon has is that it was one of the early tokusatsu subbers. Now that there are so many options, they're pretty much pointless.

And hahaha yeah, nothing like building fortifications against newbies of tokusatsu (and mecha) from spoiling pages with "This is a TTGL reference". And Rider 1 (and 2) already did drill kicks.

TTGL + Kamen Rider

The logical conclusion of where I think Heisei has been going, then. I'm a huge TTGL fan so this isn't a bad thing per se, but I like my Riders to be a bit more subdued (in terms of special effects, not plausibility- LOL Showa). Each to his own, I guess.

Ironically enough, Fourze does seem a lot less CG heavy than OOO, so you may like looking into it. Myself, I don't have a problem with effects, so long that they're done well, but to each his own.

In anycase, I don't really think that the whole Gurren Lagann comparison holds any water, at least so far.

TV-Nihon has far more errors then Over-Time.

Blade, Hibiki and Kabuto come to mind where they completely botch lines that ended up changing entire storylines.

Also, Forever Silver may be a very loose translation, but it's still valid.

Wait what? Also hatin' on Showa are we? Then again as expected of a TTGL fan.

Again, if the manga is anything to go by, the Showa era riders were awesome.
I downloaded the first five episodes of Kuuga and watched the first two. Its... not bad.
I'm hooked enough to watch the other three to see how it goes.

No Showa hate here. In fact, I prefer more subdued SFX for my Riders instead of gigantic CGI, which I feel is more suitable for an animated series... or Sentai. Faiz's Photon Blood flows are about the limit of what I like for my Henshin sequences.

The reason I said LOL Showa was because most of those series hold Narm Charm for me today due to how overdone everything is. They're awesome in their own way but I can't gush about them like I may with the first few Heisei riders.

Early Heisei series used a lot of partial or interrupted Henshin sequences, for example, and setting up super attacks while dodging or running from enemies, both of which were very refreshing for me at the time.

What I really hope is that Fourze ditches vehicular combat for anything larger than a bike. I know Ryuki was pretty ridiculous in this regard but stuff like the Den Liner and Castle Doran were just... I don't know. Onigashima battleship anyone?

[up][up]I agree that mech combat should not be used in Kamen rider. It kinda defeats the "spirit" of Kamen Rider.

[up][up] I'm still quite impressed at how well some of the Fish out of Water character interactions in Amazon was done.

Also, if you can look past some of the monster designs and the low-budget, the first 13 episodes of the original Kamen Rider are actually quite devoid of much narm.

Two new riders revealed for the OOO/Fourze teamup movie. And one of them is female!

Presenting, Kamen Rider Nadeshiko, and Kamen Rider Poseidon: [1]

Also, goofy or not, one thing that can be said in Fourze's favor is that it has some damn good fight choreography. Episodes 3 and 4 honestly have some of the best of the whole heisei era so far.

If the female Rider dies at the end or has less than 20 minutes of screen time, I'm gonna punch someone in the face.

Been paying attention to this since ep 4.

Fourze Rider kicked Scorpion so damn hard, she lost the bulk of her plot relevence.evil grin

Well okay, it's more like Brought Down to Normal, but still...

Also, I look forward to the inevitable double rider kick with Meteor, and dread him being an arrogant Aloof Ally who thinks he can do it all on his own.

Out of interest, does anyone know how much budget the average episode of a Kamen Rider show gets?

I will admit that I shamelessly Squeed like a fangirl when I saw Tetsuo Kurata reprise his role as Kamen Rider Black in Decade.

That nostalgia... them feels... it also helps that the awesome music during the henshin sequence is the Supercoin theme in Minute To Win It.

Neither goony beard-men nor rainbow-haired she-twinks will stand in the way of my dreams!
