SG 1 is a great show. It's a shame the economic downturn hurt MGM enough that they shelved the plans for a third DVD movie.
I spent many of my teen and young adult years watching SG-1 and SGA. I didn't bother with SGU, though, since it looked like they were trying to make the show... er, younger and hipper-looking.
Fantastic Weapon Generator!SG-1 is one of my favorite shows. It's one of the few long runners to be good all the way through. It's a real shame that Hulu got rid of it.
Ba'al has to be my favorite television antagonist. Any episode featuring him is a good one, even the bad ones.
I liked the last two seasons with Browder and Black. Not only because I'm a Farscape fanboy — and not only because I dislike RDA (he's....an acquired taste, I guess). But the Ori are better-developed villains than the mustache-twirling Gou'ald.
Though not as bad as Atlantis, the heroes never seemed to be in any peril. There's nothing wrong with send-ups of science fiction; but the endless quips got on my nerves. It wasn't just RDA, either; it spread to the whole cast (minus Teal'c). If it's true that the star sets the tone of the show, then everybody got better once he left.
I just get this impression that RDA is a lazy performer whose broad comedy is a lot less witty than he thinks it is. He would rather be a real-life all american solider; and I don't think he likes acting very much.
I'm a skeptical squirrelBaal was fun.
Still, had probably worst series finale I've ever seen. Thankfully "Continuum" made up for that.
Fanfiction I hate.But the Ori are better-developed villains than the mustache-twirling Gou'ald.
I don't think they were better developed so much as their being modeled after religious fundies made them hit a little closer to home.

Fantastic Weapon Generator!I think they seemed better because they were much more unstoppable appearing. The Gouald had the misfortune of being from the "problem of the week" format where Status Quo Is God and it took a couple of seasons for them to actually develop past that. The Ori fixed several of these problems.
Fight smart, not fair. The Ori are united, the Goa'uld spend as much time fighting eachother as they do fighting SG-1, if not more.
Also, Morena Baccarin. Claudia Black is no slouch herself, but she's getting up there.

That's part of the point. They shot themselves in the foot for a solution though.
Fight smart, not fair.My dad watched the entire series a while back, and told me they were really good, but I only got around to watching the pilot pretty recently. Now I regret not watching them while they were still on Hulu.
<><Joining in the Ba'al squee and Varla squee. Ori were too mighty. They felt so unbeatable that most of the Season was a downer and their defeat was an anti-climax. There should have been more episodes with young Ardea played by Jodelle. She was more menacing than adult Ardrea.
Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!I have to confess that I disagree about RDA. He's what got me interested in the first place.
I agree. RDA is a good actor.
Also, the Goa'uld being some self infighting mofos was part of their charm.

The Gou'ald are essentially Klingons. Always Chaotic Evil blockheads who logically wouldn't lift off into space because they're too busy slaughtering each other and munching on their corpses over dinner. The Ori at least had an ethos. If they're a lazy expy of the Catholic church, so what? At least it's something I haven't seen.
And it's an excuse to go visit Planet Camelot, which is awesome (I don't care what you say).
SG-1 is at its best when it's campy, yet still has a modicum of drama. Like with Anubis.
I'm a skeptical squirrelAnathame: I agree. RDA is a good actor.
He's a good actor, but not great. As far as I can tell he's capable of playing only one character. Every time he was supposed to be playing someone who for whatever reason looked like O'Neill but wasn't, his acting was awful.
Fantastic Weapon Generator!YMMV.
I loved RDA's performance. I didn't like Teal'c that much though. He got better in later seasons when he softened up some.
My favorite villain was the Wraith. Say what you must about them, they were at least a good concept, compared to the Goa'uld and the Ori.
I prefer my alien villains to be Cosmic Horror evil aliens over little snakes masquerading as egyptian
Even when RDA was trying to play Teal'c in O'Neill's body? o_0
Fantastic Weapon Generator! But they're the worst of all!
Vampires in space I can deal with. But they all look like vampire fish.
I'm a skeptical squirrel...Very sexy vampire fish.
Fantastic Weapon Generator!Thou shalt not diss the Mac Gyver.
Under World. It rocks!Todd was fun as the Spike expy, but overall Vampires IN SPACE! were an uninspiring villain.
Episode 200 shows that Furlings are ewoks :)

Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!Todd, a Spike expy? I'm not seeing it.
He didn't even eat anyone's Weetabix or anything!
Fantastic Weapon Generator!Friendly Neighbourhood Vampire being sarcastic at the Heroes' moral sermnons.
Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!
I tried searching for an existing discussion thread on Stargate ( or Stargate SG-1 ), but couldn't find a general one ( as opposed to a specific question ). So, here we go.
Anyway, I recently started watching Stargate SG-1, and really like it. I just finished writing an article about some of why I like it.

So, anybody have thoughts or comments about the series? About my thoughts on it? Lamentations for its current passing?
