Bumping because the examples are in terrible need of cleaning, particularly in the film section. A typical entry there:
- The Wizard of Oz
- "Toto, I have the feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." -Judy Garland
- "I'm melting! Melting!" - Margaret Hamilton
- "There's no place like home." -Judy Garland
- "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too." - Margaret Hamilton
It doesn't get better. The top two examples in Literature are identified as Memetic Mutation. A Memetic Mutation is not necessarily a Catchphrase; in fact, those two are examples of Beam Me Up, Scotty!.
"There's no place like home" better goes under Arc Words anyway, IMHO.
Those would be Memetic Phrase or Memetic Line a super trope to Beam Me Up, Scotty! in which the Memetic Line is remembered wrong.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Neither of those would be distinct enough from Memetic Mutation as it exists now.
For the Film section: is there a Classic Film Quotes page or something more appropriate? Because there really needs to be if there isn't...most of the entries on the Film page don't really qualify as Catch Phrases.
I've added a note at the top to hopefully redirect some of the Memetic Mutation phrases that way.
I'm also working on cleaning up the TV page, though it's going to take some time. There's a lot of poor formatting due to the changes in the way punctuation is now handled in links. I'm working on fixing those as I go along. Also, four shows in particular (Doctor Who, Kamen Rider, Laugh-In, and Star Trek) have so many quotes they really need their own sub-pages, if that's possible.
ETA: Just saw the bit about Signature Line up there. Adding to the header of the Film page.

Alright, Live Action TV is now in alphabetical order by series. Whew. Now that things are more orderly, I see we might also need/want a Game Show sub-page in addition to the ones suggested in my previous post.
I'll also need some help with the Film Catch Phrases; I've not seen some of the movies in question, so I don't know if they're true Catch Phrases or not.
Not a movie buff, so can't help you there. But I am pretty annoyed at the fact that people are just putting Memetic Mutation phrases on this page. (I'm pretty annoyed whenever memes appear on this wiki, in fact.)
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdStarted on the Western Animation today. Will finish later. It looks like we'll need pages for the Looney Tunes, South Park, and The Simpsons, and maybe a couple of others if they have additional entries hidden in the crufty bottom bits.
While yes, Futurama's Professor Farnsworth has a catchphrase of "Good news, everyone", I don't think it's necessary to list every subversion thereof.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I was thinking that myself. Right now, I'm just working on alphabetizing entries.
Working on the anime section right now. I am going to take out any abridged series references, as they're more suitable for the Web Originals section.
Just gave the Film section a once-over, I'm sure there are still a LOT of bad examples that I missed.
[The rest was unintelligible.]Aaaand just de-natterfied the Video Games section. It wasn't pretty.
[The rest was unintelligible.]Anime is finished. And thanks for helping with the film and video games, Gillespie!
Also gave the Web Original section a poke-through. Doesn't look bad, but would benifit from having the various abridged series' on there instead of the anime section.
[The rest was unintelligible.]The laconic version ("You can recognise a character/show by this quote") seems to also be misleading, implying Memetic Mutation instead. I changed it to "A character says a specific line many times."

Yes, abridged series go in web original. They're not anime, they're a specific type of Fan Work.
Fight smart, not fair.Working on Video Games. Someone may want to come in behind me, as there a few games I've not played and I'm not sure if they're Catch Phrases so much as Memetic Mutations.
ETA: Alphabetized.

Bump. Anyone gonna do anything here?!
I did some clean-up on the Western Animation page, which is pretty much the medium I'm best in. It was littered with non-examples like "whenever he mentions tea" or "Squidward sighs often".
I wasn't really much of a help on other pages, though.
Actually a girl.Would scrapping the current examples and starting over be an option?
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartI've worked to the limits of my knowledge, I'm afraid. I took out any I knew for sure weren't catch phrases when I alphabetized.
I humbly apologize for posting another senseless thread here that doesn't actually contribute new information to this wiki. With that said, there does seem to be a definite problem here.
The main description notes that "the phrase must be repeated multiple times — just because something is the most memorable line of a movie does not make it a catchphrase unless it is said more than once." I agree with this stipulation, but the Film subpage does not; it says, "We list quotes that are quoted numerous times in films or film series AND quotes that have become part of popular culture" (uppercase sic). I think "quotes that have become part of popular culture" should be left to Memetic Mutation and Signature Line, and Catchphrase should be restricted as far as possible to actual catchphrases.
There seems to be a widespread problem with this trope. The Live Action TV page even says, "This article is in need of cleaning." That I think we can do here.
