You know it. There's always a genre that fits perfectly your tastes, except for ONE element that ruins it all and keeps you from enjoying it. What are those genres for you guys? More importantly, this thread might work well as a recommendation thread for artists/groups from that genre that somehow avoid the ruining element. That oughta help us a lot.

I'm not sure if it fits as a complaint thread, but if it does at least the recommendation part might as well compensate for it.

For me, there are two genres that fit this.

  • Power metal: I know it's musically fine and shows a lot of skill, but something keeps me from liking vocals with lots of tremolo. Up until now, I have only found Axenstar as an exception.
  • Deathcore: No matter what the "metal elite" may say about deathcore being stupid and fake and whatnot, it still piques my interest a lot, but I can at least agree on one part with the elitist base: breakdowns suck, or at least the ones with slowdown. Having blistering fast metal just to slow it down abruptly is like having commercial breaks on a porn movie on its climax! I've been searching for a deathcore band with few or no breakdowns at all, and only found about three.

No regret shall pass over the threshold!

Country, for a reason I'm embarrassed to admit. I cannot stand the family-values championing, jingonistic and neutered nature of most country artists I've heard for almost twenty years. I really don't like to knock music for its message unless it offends me on a personal level (or just insults my intelligence). Luckily for me, Big & Rich and Keith Urban only care about fun and have pretty lively music to go along with that.

I've heard Hank III's "Dick in Dixie" and I liked it.

Trance, if it weren't for two things: The facelessness, and the utterly pointless scene that surrounds it.

Trance (and a lot of EDM imo) isn't centered so much around artists as much as D Js who make mixes. Kind of irks me a bit. Still, the upside to that is if all you want is some good background music it's quite easy to get ahold of.

It makes identifying what and who you definitively like or don't unnecessarily difficult; it also seems to be the kind of environment that discourages actual innovation within the genre.

I'd love to see more longform danceable electronic minimalist music; I just want a bit more... diversity therein.

haujobb's remix albums are consistently FUCKING INCREDIBLE, but that has a lot to do with the fact that they're already good.

There are always exceptions.

Plus, Haujobb kind of count as something completely different.

Is haujobb capitalized or not? They seem to be inconsistent about that.

(Untitled Track). Or (untitled track). Or (UNTITLED TRACK).

Depends on how bored we are.

Pop Country if not for the lyrics, oh, and the fucking twang in the voices.

Also when I say "the lyrics" I mean how they all seem to be recycled. My mom listens to country radio nonstop in the car, and I swear the phrase "cold beer on the console" appears in at least nine different popular country songs right now.

Rap, if it wasn't usually based around how many hos you have and how utterly terrific you think you are. Eminem, i'm looking at you.

Should I list all the ways in which this is incorrect, or should I just save my breath?
