A new kind of squishy fighting game!
Goonya Fighter is a 3D fighting game featuring "squishy" and "jiggly" controls. Movement is rather difficult, as walking too fast makes you fall over, and you fall over easily from attacks.
The game has a simple, blocky artstyle and simple controls. The story mode focuses on Nyack and Mash as they fight to defeat the evil Amoebas, save their friend Pudding, and make new friends along the way.
It is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, and Microsoft Windows.
Tropes:
- Big Bad: The game's main villain is Jelly, the leader of the Amoebas.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Partway through the game, Aurora kidnaps Mash and brainwashes him to make him fight his friends. He turns back to normal after being defeated.
- Damsel in Distress: Nyack and Mash's friend Pudding is kidnaped at the start of the story mode by the Amoebas.
- Defeat Means Friendship: Multiple enemies join Nyack and Mash after they are defeated.
- Distressed Dude: Mash and other characters are captured by Amoebas throughout the game.
- Doppelgänger Attack: Kagero attacks using Shadow Clones of himself.
- Engrish: The announcer is Japanese but speaks in English.
- Falling Blocks: Leaf blocks fall down after being stepped on.
- Mad Scientist: Aurora is an evil scientist who cloned and brainwashed some of the heroes.
- The Man Behind the Man: Happens twice. At first, Cobra and Aurora are presented as the main villains, only for it to be revealed that they work for Jelly. However, after the final boss, it is revealed that he works for Dr. Gel.
- Mooks: Amoebas are the common enemy of the game.
- Shout-Out: The character designs are similar to those in Naruto, and Kagero even uses Shadow Clones.
- Cobra has a similar design to Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda.
- Split Screen: Multiplayer mode uses a split screen.
