8.Spiderman vs Blue Beetle: The're both bug-themed, they're both urban-based to degrees, (in the case of the Beetle, it depends more-so on which Beetle, ) and they're both wise-crackers. The only questions is which Beetle should picked; Ted Kord, or Jaime. (I don't think Garett is a real consideration here.) Unfortunately, the only Beetle I'm familiar with is Ted, so I can't personally vouch on Jamie, or whether or not he would be the better fit.
First off, it's "Spider-Man". That hyphen's always been there. And second, match him up against Ted Kord. Both Kord and Spidey were created by Steve Ditko.
Another serious one could be The One Above All.
I think some people wouldn't be comfortable with the idea of beating what's pretty much God in a fighting game.

Krona as the final boss. He was the main villain in the Avengers-JLA crossover series.

Krona is indeed a good one.

But I have to stick to my guns about making it something other than a fighting game. tongue

How about Green Goblin versus Joker? Similar color palettes, and they're both nutty as can be, with outrageous laughter.

Norman Osborn has more in common with Lex Luthor than with Joker.

But if someone else were to be paired with Lex, Joker would he a good second choice.

^^ Depending on the Writer, Norman Osborn has more in common with Lex, while The Green Goblin has more in common with Joker.

Anyways, on my wishlist for a game like this: Cassandra Cain. Most of my others have been said already.

^ Maybe. But Red Skull would probably work better as a Joker Rival. They are both villains that make other bad guys realise they have Standards

@11 Numb

I dunno, i doubt they'd have the alts be other characters. Especially since heroes have bunch of cotumes they've worn to pick from.

Hulk himself has several good costume to pick from. Joe Fixit, Green Scar, Maestro, etc.

I thought about that, but I guess that system was a bit of wishful thinking. Figured it'd be the best way to cover all the bases without wasting slots on overly similar characters. And now I'm kicking myself for not thinking of Joe Fixit [lol].

Batman of Zur-En-Arrh would be a good alt-costume too, especially since it would stand out from the others.

Whenever I think of Batman in a game like this I think of a Shun-Goku-Satsu-esque move where he grabs the opponent and does something to cripple or incapacitate them while the screen briefly fades to black.

Some guy wrote an article on this very prospect.

Can't say I like his roster. It should have at least 30-35 people on each side.

Never mind that, he never mentions who would develop it.

Not a very impressive lineup, I agree.

And why is he choosing them based on power-level? If it's a fighting game, they've already been thrown out the window!

It's a comic website. Comic-book geeks just don't know how to think outside of comic-book terms.

Never mind that, he never mentions who would develop it.
Now that I think about it, this little detail hasn't been brought up by anyone in this thread so far. Who would be the chosen to develop such a project?

This whole prospect was brought up by Ono saying he'd be interested in making this game, so Capcom is an option. However, I could easily see people writing it off as a MvC clone*

. If it were developed by Capcom, it would most certainly be a 2-D fighter: there's no shortage of people who believe such a fighting system isn't good for encapsulating these characters' powers * . Furthermore the two companies are American; I don't think the rabid comic-book geeks would be too happy with a Japanese developer "messing" with their beloved franchises* .

I think we can rule out Activison and Warner Interactive. The two companies are insecure around each other enough as it is, and we don't need an alliance so delicate to be further strained by complaints of internal company-loyalty.

There's also EA, but I'm pretty sure Marvel wants to stay as far away from them as possible after Rise of the Imperfects. The most unfortunate thing is that it's difficult to name any western developers that are good at fighting games.

Come on people!! Why hasn't anyone mentioned Black Canary? Put her up against Black Widow and you get your obligatory, designated girl fight.

Nightwing and Red Hood would be very awesome too.

You just can't do Superman right in a fighting game. They try again and again and it's always JUST SO WRONG

EDIT: when you win against Superman, he should get right back up, completely unharmed, and shake your hand

[up]Unless he's fighting Batman. Batman would just dump some kryptonite on him and walk away.

Also, on the subject of that comic-book nerd's roster: Flash is Spiderman's equal? SERIOUSLY?

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.

Amazo would be a very interesting character to have, as well. It could copy the move sets of the characters on the opponent's side and alternate between them. To stop it from being a Game-Breaker, it's copied attacks could be given a longer charge time and slower recovery or something.

Just make move-copying meter-dependent, or something. Anyway, Shang Tsung and Shinnok taught us that giving a character every move in the game doesn't necessarily make them that good.

You know what would work better than this? Batman/Gotham fighting game. The characters just lend themselves to it. Superman and Green Lantern standing on the ground sweep kicking each other just doesn't work for me.

EDIT: in the Batman fighter, give Clayface the move-copying ability!

Here's this huge roster I've been working on for the last while. 50 Characters on each side. Just a heads up, take all these "rivalries" with a grain of salt; most of them aren't meant to be serious.

  • Thor VS. Superman
  • Captain America VS. Batman
  • Iron Man VS. Wonder Woman
  • Hulk VS. The Flash
  • Wolverine VS. Deathstroke
  • Spider-Man VS. Hawkman
  • Namor VS. Aquaman
  • Nova VS. Green Lantern
  • Ms. Marvel VS. Captain Marvel
  • Silver Surfer VS. Martian Manhunter
  • Black Widow VS. Catwoman
  • Daredevil VS. Green Arrow
  • Punisher VS. Huntress
  • Dr. Strange VS. Dr. Fate
  • Ghost Rider VS. Lobo
  • Deadpool VS. Booster Gold
  • Cyclops VS. Black Lightning
  • Storm VS. Power Girl
  • Emma Frost VS. Raven
  • The Thing VS. Cyborg
  • Mr. Fantastic VS. Doctor Sivana
  • Human Torch VS. Red Tornado
  • Invisible Woman VS. Kimiyo Hoshi
  • Black Panther VS. Nightwing
  • She-Hulk VS. Cheetah (Minerva)
  • Moon Knight VS. The Question
  • Iron Fist VS. Black Canary
  • Luke Cage VS. Zatanna
  • Wasp VS. The Atom
  • Captain Mar-vell VS. Captain Atom
  • The Vision VS. Metallo
  • Blade VS. Swamp Thing
  • Songbird VS. Starfire
  • Darkhawk VS. Blue Beetle
  • Juggernaut VS. Gorilla Grodd
  • Taskmaster VS. Prometheus
  • The Sentry VS. Bizarro
  • Venom VS. Parasite
  • M.O.D.O.K. VS. General Zod
  • Apocalypse VS. Vandal Savage
  • Green Goblin VS. Ra’s Al Ghul
  • Super-Skrull VS. Mongul
  • Ultron VS. Brainiac
  • Mephisto VS. John Constantine
  • Loki VS. Sinestro
  • Magneto VS. Black Adam
  • Dormammu VS. Trigon
  • Red Skull VS. The Joker
  • Dr. Doom VS. Lex Luthor
  • Thanos VS. Darkseid

For the final boss, I'd go with Doomsday stealing the Phoenix Force ala Capcom Vs SNK 2 or Dark Phoenix on a rampage (or maybe The Void doing the same).

Don't forget the Grandmaster! As one of the guys who showed up in JLA-Avengers, and a guy who's entire shtick is being obsessed with games, it would make perfect sense for him to be in. His victory pose would have the camera zoom out to show we were just watching his tv screen while he had a go at the game.

EDIT: Don't forget Dr Strange and Dr Fate.
