Not only that, but the same exact image is on Polybius.

Yes, pull this, no question. Completely meaningless to all but the extremely small minority of people who know what Polybius is. And even then it doesn't demonstrate the trope in any way.

Holy vague memories batman. I am pretty sure I remember an old show with that plot line. Fuck that seems so long ago.

Voting to pull

Reasons stated by others.

Please.

Pulled:

[up] That doesn't appear to be covered by the trope as written. That looks like a trope where the game "comes alive" and breaks it's own fourth wall.

[up] I dunno, it kinda looks like that's what's happened in that pic.

I don't understand. I was trying to say the image proposed in post 7 appears to be for a different trope than the one we're discussing. Do you agree?

Um, this isn't a good name. I thought it was a snowclone of Hunting the Most Dangerous Game, so I thought it was something completely different.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

The poster for Stay Alive would be excellent on The Game Plays You — that one is specifically " When the game is in full swing, the players realize that there are consequences in Real Life, and that either they or their loved ones are game pieces. The stakes have been drastically raised, and the players will have to fight to get out alive and sane. "

Here's an idea: Use an image from Homestuck.

[up][up]You should put that poster on The Game Plays You.

"Here's an idea: Use an image from Homestuck."

Isn't that the exact same as putting the Polybius picture back up but from a different thing? You complained about a JAFAAC and suggested another JAFAAC.

Nnn...

[up] No. I meant an image showing how dangerous the game they're playing has become. Maybe two images. Does anybody here read Homestuck?

[up]x4 So.. The Game Plays You is about games that affect the players in unforeseen ways, while The Most Dangerous Video Game is about games that are somehow evil? The text on the poster is indicative of both tropes, and I think the picture is more indicative of The Most Dangerous Video Game.

[up] I follow homestuck. I don't think there are any two images that would properly demonstrate.

The Game Plays You is "You get involved in what you think is a perfectly normal game, then discover that what happens in the game has direct Real Life consequences — usually bad ones."

Yeah, there's nothing of that in the poster, except for the tagline. Both the tagline and the picture, however, are demonstrative of this trope.

Blackadder: Ahh, that explanation is better. Excuse my quick 'nnn'ing - but, to me, the way it was said sounded. I thought it was a Polybius-like game or something.

Looking through the examples (Homestuck isn't on there if it is an example, by the way) I don't think many of them are going to good to get an image off. Actually... how would you get it to clearly say "this video game is EVIL"... minus the one with the devil's face there, which I kind of like because it's a representation of the evil of the video game. I can see why others wouldn't like it though.

No, it looks like the game's villain came out of the game...if that's not what the trope's talking about, then I'm probably misinterpreting it.

^It's not the entirety of what the trope's talking about, but it's an extremely common form.

I'm fine with using the image from Homestuck or from Regular Show. They both pretty much cover the trope as it stands. FYI, this article is older than the one for Polybius; I'm not guilty of ripping it straight from that.

And, honestly, the Polybius story / urban legend / thing is the trope maker anyway, so I don't see how it isn't appropriate as an article image.

[up] How do we know it's evil by looking at it if we don't know what it is, and it's on Polybius too. Bad argument.
