[up][up]Unfortunately when it comes to mainstream comics, new characters, new settings, and new plots don't really sell.tongue

[up]Perhaps, but ultimately, the Sentry's premise failed horribly in execution. If he weren't already dead, I'd want him to die in a fire.tongue

[up]Sentry is back in Uncanny Avengers as a Horseman of Apocalypse (though still kinda deadish).

I honestly really like Superboy Prime, I feel like the sheer scale of his Freudian Excuse is never really thought about. Immediately after it seems like his somewhat crappy life is about to get infinitely better, Everything and everyone he ever knew was just...gone. Not even Dead, they just don't exist anymore. And he himself is forgotten, his sacrifice left unhonored.

Yeah, in Countdown he was the epitome of a Complete Monster and/or Pyschopathic Manchild, but that's mostly because Countdown was terribly written. In almost every other appearance it was a consistent character arc that came to a satisfying conclusion in Blackest Night.....that was later stepped all over when the Writers decided to screw him over and regress him back to his Infinite Crisis insanity and selfishness for Teen Titans.

I think of it a lot like Kratos; yeah he's done terrible things but he's a product of the evils of others. And this last one's just me, but I'm always impressed by how he can solo 30 supers at once.

[up]Superboy Prime gave us the "I'll kill you to death!" so he's not all bad.

I think Prime has done almost literally everything he can to invalidate that Freudian Excuse. Particularly when he murdered Laurie and used her death to enslave his parents.

Really, if he did get a world back? What'd happen when it didn't conform to his standards? If his girlfriend tried to break up with him? If an election didn't go the way he wanted? If someone put onions on his burger when he specifically said no onions?

No world deserves to be cursed with Prime.

Now with the New 52, he probably doesn't exist anymore.

Prime is also probably the biggest jobber in the entire DC Multi verse.

Prime's Freudian Excuse was over the moment he suddenly snapped from "I didn't mean to do kill them!" to "Tch. Whatever. Free death for everybody today!" Which happened in, what, like three seconds?

[up] Okay, a Freudian Excuse can't just "be over". It's still there, it's just harder to feel sympathy. [up][up][up] Well, the fact that he didn't enslave Earth Prime immediately after he got back says to me that he just wanted to go home, he doesn't care about conformity. And when his parents shunned him, yeah he forced them to be around because he just things to go back to how they were.

You know what, fuck it. I can't defend everything Prime's done, it's impossible, so I won't. I like him, I feel for him and he's somehow one of my favorite characters so I guess that's just that. ¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know about you guys but I really want Superboy-Prime to break free from the source wall so he can witness how everything changed again without him being there.

Maybe Multiversity or some other event will do the job.

I had this funny idea of him referring to how he gets free of the Source Wall as the "Excuse" of why he's back, with the real reason he's back is that the writers don't think he's suffered enough. I wan to hear him respond to why he's blowing up a city with "Because the plot says so" and he cant ignore the writers demands that he do so, like a puppet that can see its strings.

... it'd be kind of interesting to see Superboy Prime interact with Ambush Bug and Animal Man, the other two Fourth-Wall Observers of the DC Universe. Or maybe the Joker, who can occasionally wander in and out of the Fourth Wall depending on the writer/time of day/particular form of insanity he's suffering at the moment.

Actually, come to think of it, the Joker would likely be a rather interesting one, in a Your Approval Fills Me with Shame kind of way, since I'm sure that the Joker would think his wanton destruction was hilarious.

Joker'd probably find the number Prime did on Risk particularly funny - "First you disarmed him, proper Superman tactic, then you made him symmetrical in your next encounter so he wouldn't feel so mismatched! What's next? Free leg amputations, courtesy of Superboy-Prime? You gotta tell me, this is too funny!"

I am actually writing a little action-comedy fic involving Superboy-Prime post-New 52. He's home, nobody seems to know he is Superboy-Prime, but the character is well known and reviled among fans. I decided not to consider the Teen Titans thing canon. Prime is basically going about his business when he sees the New 52 comics...
