Yeah, as for the whole translation thing Spirit Bomb is more appropriate for an ultimate attack rather than a blandly named spirit ball.
As for the discussion here, I was familiar with the show and knew exactly what the trope was about because of the name. It's an attack that is generated by combining the strength of a group into a single, narrow point. It's different from All Your Powers Combined cause that trope is about someone having the diverse powers of a group (which could have been either stolen or copied), while a Spirit Bomb is is explicedly a merging of the energy (not necessarily powers) of a group. Thus a Spirit Bomb is a Spirit Bomb but not All Your Powers Combined, Amazo is All Your Powers Combined but not a Spirit Bomb, Captain Planet is both (they merge their powers together to create an "attack" in CP, who happens to have their combined powers).
The name... could do better. It does somewhat describe the trope but isn't especially clear on what it is about. One big question, what is the rate of misuse? Cause a name that is working is usually a good name regardless, and thus we might just be working on a redirect rather than a rename. If we do come down to a rename, maybe a Shared Spirit Bomb or Combined Energy Attack.
The evil part of me wants to suggest All Your Power Combined just to mess with people.
Did anyone ever check for missue? That could mean the difference between redirect and rename.
I took a look at the examples, and while there were a few Combination Attacks mixed in most everything followed a 'combine energy' thing

Something like "Everyone, Lend Me Your Energy" would get the point across a lot better while still coming from the current Trope Namer, I think.

Sounds like dialogue. Admittedly, dialogue that is extremely unlikely to occur elsewhere, but still held in disapproval.
It would make a good redirect though.
Weaponized Power Of Friendship ? It's a physical manifestation of that trope, though the friend here are not limited to True Companions, but are generally a Friend to All Living Things.

Not necessarily - there's nothing in the trope preventing it from applying to Enemy Mine situations.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanTrue. I would suggest replacing 'friendship' with 'teamwork' but that doesn't get the 'energy' aspect of the trope. It might be confused with Combination Attack

The distinction between this and All Your Powers Combined is that the attack this Trope creates is created from essences from all beings, both Supers and Muggles.
This rapid trope renaming frenzy is getting hard to keep up with. How about Spared Energy Attack as the new named with a new description.

Combined Energy Attack has been the favorite for over a week. Can we call it now?
Calling the crowner in favor of Combined Energy Attack.
Created the page and spot checked for incorrect examples. I put it on Magic and Powers index but I can't get it to work on the page.
One question: If I redirected Spirit Bomb to Combined Energy Attack would this discussion go with it?
It seems you need to set the page type before putting something on an index for things to work. Apparently if you don't you need to edit the index page again(in this case, to remove the wick to Spirit Bomb) after typing the page for things to take.
As for the discussion, you'd have to change the page tag manually(the little button on the left just above the first post on the page).
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanNo, you have to click the little | symbol to change where the thread points. |
I could've sworn that was on the same line as the stale discussions link.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanRedirected; quotes page moved; renaming process complete.
Crown Description:
TRS agreed that this trope, Spirit Bomb, is about the combination of energy rather than powers and the majority of examples on its page follow this definition
spirit bomb is at least 20% cooler than spirit ball or rice cooker for that matter.
