Why would they do that? World War Z could have made a good anthology style film (with a central character to act as a framing device)
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs SchneizelHuh, last time I heard anything about this project, it was not looking so hot as far as actually getting released went, but I can't really recall the source. As far as this not being an anthology? Well, I can't say I'm surprised, but hey, it could still be good, if they manage to get the global spin on things that the book had.
Liveblog | DeadblogThey got the financing settled (it's an American/Indian co-production) with an aim for a release in mid-2012 (possibly August 10th).
About shooting in Glasgow: I don't mind it. Glasgow made for a convincing London in Unleashed and the place looks nice so it should make for a good Philadelphia. At least they aren't shooting in Pittsburgh (which is possibly the single most overused city in shoots now).

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I have to wonder...what's the point in this?
For all its many faults, I think that World War Z could make a great movie if it used post-war interviews as a Framing Device and narrated flashback scenes to the war.
Now it just sounds like it's going to be just another zombie film, which is a shame.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars. Also: Brad Pitt. Blurgh.
"Weird doors open. People fall into things."But won't all the zombies here in Glasgow be too busy going to the open day at Ibrox?
And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)Something that might help the box office: this is reportedly going to be Brad Pitt's final acting performance. He's hinted retiring so he can spend more time with his children.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/God-damn it I can't say that I am happy about the new plot (and so as a lot of people) but it's somewhat expected. I think it would kind of work if the hero fails but the people of the world saved themselves.

The plot sounds like shit.
How is he going to travel all around the world? NO ONE ELSE COULD.
It's not over. Not yet.Jetpack?
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/My hopes have been in free-fall over this thing. It's now a standard zombie flick staring Brad Pitt. I take that back. This might, MIGHT, redeem itself if they make it nice and dark and Pitt is the guy who comes up with the bastion plan.
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " SpiritI don't mind Brad Pitt, but "a typical zombie route seemed the sound option"? That's the last thing anyone wants right now. The fad has passed.
So... nobody wanted a mockumentary? It worked for District 9.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...I don't know why everyone calls that movie a Mockumentary. It wasn't.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI actually like Brad Pitt, that part is fine by me. The downside is that it sounds like they've dropped World War Z in it's entirety for a generic zombie plot and plan to just use the name to drum up some added publicity.
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " Spirit^ Not that it's unprecedented, mind you...
All your safe space are belong to Trump^^^ Whatcha mean? The first half seemed like one to me.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...I see they've taken a page from the The Dark is Rising how-to of ruining book to film adaptions.
i. hear. a. sound. The thing that really surprises me is that they took the one character of the book whose story would have made a good action movie and completely ignored it.

I was just wondering why there isn't a page for the film Defiance. I'm new btw. Hi I'm Winterwolf00.

It's a real shame that they've changed the focus. You'd think they could stick to the book, especially seeing as they're filming in Glasgow and will thus save a fortune on make-up for the Zed-heads.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'@ Winterwolf00, you can always write Film.Defiance yourself. Guidelines are pretty simple: no copypasta from wikipedia or IMDB, at least three objective tropes, no bashing/gushing.
Fight smart, not fair.Marco Beltrami is scoring the film (instead of the director's usual composers Asche & Spencer). With Beltrami's experience in the horror genre and his ability to branch out into other genres (Western with Three Ten To Yuma, war with The Hurt Locker, religious drama with Soul Surfer), this has a lot of possibilities.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Meh. I hear good things about this book from ubernerds who're into zombies but not military stuff and terrible things about the book from ubernerds who're into zombies and military stuff. I'm not holding high hopes for the movie...
"Shit, our candidate is a psychopath. Better replace him with Newt Gingrich."
I discovered that they were going to be making a book of an oral collection about contrived governmental incompetence into a linear, single character focused, film. This could be great or it could be horrible.
On the other hand, they are filming in Glasgow in about a week and they are going to be cutting me off from easy access to Gregg's Bakery. And that's truly fucking horrendous.
