Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

He was kind of like that with Avengers 1 too, iirc.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Whedon thought for a moment, lifting one hand weakly.
“After which,” he added, “I would be 20 years older.”

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. He feels like something of a perfectionist. Not to mention making a blockbuster is tiring, when weeks of work can amount to seconds of screentime. It's a small wonder many directors take breaks for years after finishing a huge project. That's part of the reason why Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing film was so low budget, because he wanted something easy to film.
I'm not worried that it's going to impact his enthusiasm for the Avengers in the finished product, though. In the DVD commentary he admitted that despite his unhappiness about what didn't get filmed, he will be eternally grateful for getting out things like Hulk smashing the tar out of Loki. And he had a while to think about if he wanted to go through the whole slog a second time.
Joss definitely needs a nice long vacation, and then a long stretch of free time to work on some original projects. In all the AOU interviews, he sounds absolutely burnt out.

Does that second quote freak anyone else out?
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself. For the record, Daredevil is part of the MCU. If the character will turn up in the movies down the line, who knows, but I think it is wrong to think that the character doesn't get his due. For one, Movies are not inherently better than TV shows, both have their advantages and disadvantages. And two, if we make it to the defender show, he will be king of the Netflix universe within the MCU.
The TV shows probably won't be referenced in the films, but vice-versa is different.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! There was actually a bit of offhand information recently about how the Defenders characters can and possibly will appear in the films at some point.
Probably not in regards to the AOS characters, though, unless Skye is somehow going to be in the Inhumans movie.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The TV series I would most like to see is a New Warriors one.
Would be quite meta.
I think a more meta show would be one of Howard the Duck. Unless you mean a show for TV and not Netflix.
Speaking of Howard, this happened.
But considering who the guy saying that is, I guess it's safe to say that we should take it with a very, very large grain of salt.

I don't know, has George Lucas ever lied about being into a project? I don't remember him ever lying about a upcoming project of any sort. Even the Development Hell-laden Red Tails came out eventually.
For that matter, it seems a classic case of blowing a sentence out of proportion. From what I gather, Lucas said that given reavaliating cult classics is in the vogue now in Hollywood, Howard the Duck might end up riding that wave.
He didn't say "guys, it's confirmed, I'll be directing it and it's set to be released in 2019", he said "Maybe Marvel will do a Howard the Duck movie someday. It would make sense."
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The rumor was the Defenders might cameo in Infinity War. I think they might actually be a little easier to work around in that case since so far they've kept into their own corner and haven't had any interactions with the Avengers.
Well, my ticket for Age of Ultron is ordered...next Saturday, best place available. I can't wait!!!!!!
The Ant-man and Yellowjacket suits are ridiculously cool.
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Joss Whedon sounds like Masahiro Sakurai sometimes. He clearly has a passion for this and it's fucking killing him.
Man needs a break.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Projecthttp://collider.com/michael-douglas-talks-ant-man-and-beyond-the-reach/
So Ant Man will be like Guardians Of The Galaxy in terms of humor. Not sure if it will work as well with this kind of setting.

So he's seen Guardians. It's kind of heartwarming that he's doing it for the kids.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectNothing major but Marvel has officially confirmed Nicole Perlman and Meg Lefauve as the Captain Marvel writers.
Oh, I think that is major. Because I still think that a female writer (or a writer which is good in writing female characters) is more important for a good female lead movie than having a female director. Those picks sounds good, especially if inside out is really that good as rumours claim it is.
Hopefully James Gunn doesn't try to somehow downplay Nicole Perlman's involvement in an MCU movie this time around, because seriously, fuck that noise.
It's not major because we already talked about it a week or so ago.
Edit:That's actually something the current writer for the Gotg comic has also done: in an interview he talked about how HE brought back all these characters from the 80's etc and made them beloved characters. He was tasked with relaunching the book (when they started talking about making a movie about the team)after the very much beloved cult run of the book that actually brought all these characters back from pretty much comicbook limbo just a few years before had ended(and so also ended Cosmic Marvel). His run of the book has had really bad reviews by critics and readers and the sales have been dropping steadily.
If anyone deserves that praise it's the original writers, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning(who are actually credited in the movie)and their many artists.

I used to be like "the writer is the most important person" but I'm not so sure now. I feel like I probably only think that because I'm a writer. Somewhere out there someone's going "it's super-important that Captain Marvel have a female editor" or "I can't believe Marvel hired a guy to be director of photography."
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
I gotta admit, reading recent interviews with Joss Whedon makes me feel a bit concerned for AOU. It sounds like it really took a toll on him, and he himself doesn't feel all that upbeat about it.
