Indeed...! I'm intrigued, though I'm not sure how successful a topic like this will go down.

As one (and as far as I know, the only one on this website), I'd be interested to hear people's viewpoints and questions and such.

Here's the official website, BTW: http://www.watchtower.org/

Eh, I'll just say I don't really get along with the ones I know and that of what I've read of their doctrine, it seems very, um, iron gripped. And with that, I'll leave this topic.

GET OFF MY DOORSTEP BEFORE I GO BERSERKR ON YOUR ASS

Actually, I don't seem to get any in my neighborhood. I don't really care about them as long as they stay off of my doorstep.

They've got some pretty hot teenage daughters, which they often use to bait non-believers into converting.

I've only talked to them a few times. They are people. People with beliefs I don't share, but I can talk with them and enjoy myself. I don't mind their giving me things or going to my door. I tend to just politely take the things. It gives me something read in my spare time anyway...

They've never come up to the door of my house, or maybe they have before and everyone in the house overslept. Also, I'm a half-dead motherfucker.

I avoid them like the plague.

Happily, they wear those little badges so people can cross the street before being accosted.

I don't mind them as long as they're not bothering me.

Since I haven't had one bother me for a while, I guess I'm fine with them.

@Schitzo: ... Well, uh, I wouldn't know about 'baiting people to convert them' since our goal isn't 'conversion'. o_O

@Inverurie: Badges...? Since when did we start wearing badges? Unless you mean at conventions...?

We have roaming ones. In suits. With little black name badges.

That doesn't sound anything like us. You sure they're Jehovah's Witnesses, and not some other group? 'Cause I know we sometimes get mistaken for other groups.

I know I've never worn a name-badge.

Well, I was approached by one in my local mall as a young child...I doubt that most approach young children (I hope), because that just seems vindictive trying to get someone at a young and vulnerable age. At least wait until the person's old enough to know what the hell you're talking about.

But, ultimately, I am taking that as an isolated incident. People are people, and you can't judge a group based on a single person or a popular stereotype.

They could be Mormons Moomins.

People who come up to me in the street and try to get me to adopt their worldview all get lumped in together. I've had encounters with both, but I can't remember which is which.

From my understanding, Jehova's Witnesses are not too keen on Catholics. Though that's just what I've heard, so I don't know if it's correct.

I've never had them come to my doorstep, though. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one doing the activity that is popularly ascribed to them.

Why don't they like Catholics?

I've had the same thing happen. Both Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses have come to my door numerous times, so they start becoming one single entity with the mission of talking to me about religion.

Jehovah's Witnesses tend to be people. They have a head, two arms and two legs, usually. On their head they have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth, as well as two ears on the side of their heads. There is also usually hair on the top, as well as above the eyes and sometimes covering the lower part of the face if they have a Y chromosome. The outer part of their body is usually mostly skin, with muscles and skeleton and other such things underneath.

And That's Terrible.

I haven't ever personally known a Jehovah's Witness, and thus can't say anything about the people.

I do have problems with what I've read of their religious beliefs and church.

Note that I'm not Christian and thus the ways that their theology differs from mainstream Christianity don't bother me. What does bother me is that their church is extremely inflexible and authoritarian, discourages critical thinking on religious matters (even independent bible study) in favor of strict obedience to church elders, and is generally highly repressive.

Their general belief in the immanence of Armageddon is distasteful to me, as it is in all religious practices that fixate on such things.

I also have a dislike for churches that make their believers go around trying to convert people. It's disrespectful.

@Morven

You and I disagree on a those things.

@Thread

I like them. I just tell them I go to a church already and they give me pamphlets and that's it. Also, just tell them you aren't interested and take the papers, it doesn't hurt you and they have feelings too.
