Zak abd Wiki was hilarious, and plenty other games could be hilarious with a little modification.

"Comedy game" isn't really a genre though. Personally I thought Splatterhouse 2010 was one of the funniest games this generation, but I don't think anyone would call that a "comedy game".

Well, there are plenty of humorous games. Portal, the Mario RP Gs, Psychonauta...okay, that's all I've played that I can think of. I hope to be a game developer someday, and although my ideas are mostly gameplay, I tend to inject my admittedly possibly bizarre sense of humor into everything I do. (One of my ideas was a save point that, if you keep telling it that you don't want to save, commits suicide).

Well, I hope you succeed.

Mass Effect could have been really funny if they changed a few things. Fan vids proved that.

A little humor wouldn't harm the industry.

I wanna see a game adaptation of Concerned. Never mind how much it deviates from the Half Life canon.

The problem with comedy games is that far too many of them simply end up trying too hard to be funny and failing. Badly.

^ Well that's what happens when the players take the jokes personally/seriously.

Although I agree that a lot of the times, the jokes seem forced and end up not being funny.

My jokes are brilliant. I'm so hilarious, it's not even funny.

It's kind of hard to make a game fun to play while also focused on being entirely funny. I don't think a game can primarily be a "comedy." Mother 3 and Earth Bound are well-known for their hilarious enemies and dialogue, but it's still labeled as an RPG.

And pacing in a video game is much more different than the pacing in any other medium, which adds to the problem. A game can be funny but it probably won't be as funny as other mediums, at least on a constant basis.

Another funny game would be Glitch In The System. I can't remember how the game ended but it was pretty funny for a third-person shooter.

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -Wanderlustwarrior

[up][up][up][up] This is very true. For whatever reason a lot of games tend to screw up on the humor. I don't even know why... One look at a webcomic based on a game, halolz.com, some random youtube vids or even this very wiki can show how easy it is to make a game hilarious.

Some games really do nail it though. The mario RPG series has already been mentioned, but i gotta say it again because i was playing bowser's inside story for most of the day. Atlus is usually pretty damn good at translating humor well and adding some more where it fits. And then there's stuff like God Hand or Disgaea.

Huh. All of those are Japanese games. Well, Ratchet And Clank has its moments too.

[up] I disagree on games not being as good a medium for inserting humor. The games that do humor well do it really well. And there's way more ways of having humor in a game. You can only Read humor in a book or Watch it in a movie, but in a game you can do both as well as actively participate in it. Look at the "Snarky" dialogue options in Dragon Age 2 or the ability to launch cows out of catapults in Earthworm Jim.

[up][up] Final Fantasy V, to a much lesser degree, does this in the GBA translation.

That actually comes up in a line in that game.

Interplay and its spawn were always pretty good at humor.
