[up][up] They barely showed up in the episode to honestly teach anything about them. Nazi Germany was a backdrop at most. I always did find the mustache an odd choice, though I suspect they simply weren't allowed to portray Hitler in full.

Also, reason for the ridiculously over the top villains for main antagonists was because they didn't want to teach kids to dislike actual people who might work in such industries. It's also the reason why any more normal antagonist in an episode who works in things usually change at the end of it. In a way, they aimed for a Humans Are Flawed as a whole with normal people involved and went over the top super villains with the others with the main antagonists.

Oh and if anyone wants a hilariously dark episode of Captain Planet, least if you're into dark humor, watch Whoo Gives a Hoot. The bad guy wins using legal tricks & sabotaging the investigation. When they get proof enough of it and make a move, it doesn't matter because it's too late. He taunts them about how he's going to do it again somewhere else and dares them to try to stop him before walking off doing an Evil Laugh and episode just ends.

Yeah, the show gets a lot of flak (especially on this site in particular, which is one of the very few things about the community here that i dislike) that it doesn't deserve. The show just had too much of the "80s cartoon" vibe going on, too much of the GI Joe type of cheesiness rather than shows that were launched even two or three years later (by Ted Turner-owned Hannah Barbera, in some cases). If Captain Planet had *really* been a 90's cartoon, feel and all, it would have come over much better, and you still get a lot of moments like those of the great 90's action cartoons, of real conflict or at least of something that doesn't feel like it came from the Silver Age Of Comics.

One of the episodes actually was about the Planeteers going eco-terrorist, namely due to the influence of the alien God Zarm (whose evil influence led to his home planet nuking itself out of existence), who featured as a Bigger Bad to the eco-villains in one of the two part episodes later on, but in that episode, he tempted the Planeteers with more powerful rings that gave them a sort of Dark Side high, and they went off to destroy a military facility on an island somewhere. They came to the conclusion on their own that this was not the right way to go about things.

I just find it odd that Sony is doing this, since it's a Turner property and thus should be done by Warner Bros.

I wonder if Captain Planet is still gonna have a bright green mullet.

So how will Captain Planet exist in the world for more than five seconds before he falls over and dies, since the slightest amount of pollution/racism is crippling to him?

While I think that most of the criticism concerning the show is deserved, you can level the same criticism towards most of the shows during that time...some of them being still beloved.

If Transformers devoted three movies to Sam Newhicky, I'm sure the Planeteers will upstage the Capn somehow.

Perhaps they add some rules when they are able to call him...perhaps he can only turn up for limited times and immediately after that their rings need time to "recharge" so to speak. It would work as explanation why they don't call him all the time and made their mission more suspenseful. It is a little bit poring if you can call your deus-ex-machina whenever you want. (there was a reason why I always preferred episodes in which the rings didn't work for one reason or another).

Proximity.

Even so, it's kind of a logistics pitfall. Most often, heroes do need proximity to what they are fighting to make for exciting action scenes.

It is a bit strange how pollution is his kryptonite when pollution is, well, the thing he's supposed to be fighting off. It's like if Batman were to immediately go into shock and curled up into a fetal position every time he sees a gun.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

The fact that HATRED can make him totally powerless, too. I mean, I imagine anyone he fights hates him pretty hard, and is usually surrounded by pollution.

How in the fuck does Captain Planet accomplish anything??

1. That's Hitler. He's special. Typically the one real life human most people will agree that was actually evil.

2. If he can come out victorious in other encounters even though the bad guys there hate him, or there is pollution, then it is obviously does not affect him as bad as you are making it out to.

There's plenty of people who were just as terrible as Hitler. Stalin, for instance. He probably had plenty of hate.

Well it's true Stalin killed more people than Hitler. Stalin just kill people who were dissidents. Or were friends and family of dissidents. Or saw a dissident. With Hitler it was personal.

There's been a lot of people with more pure hatred than Hitler, like psycho serial killers, but those rarely reach positions of power because it's very difficult for someone who can't go through the basic social motions to climb up the social ladder. Hitler was the wrong person at the exact wrong time, but those combinations, fortunately, are relatively rare.

Maybe Idi Amin Dada?

There's probably plenty of people equal to or on a level comparable to Hitler. And probably living in obscenely polluted countries. So...does Captain Planet just fall over and die in their presence?

To be fair, against the average mere psycho raging nut or prejudiced angry mob, Captain Planet wouldn't be needed in the first place. A single Planeteer should suffice against a wacko with a knife or some protester hilbillies out to execute a Black jewish kid.

And most tycoons who ruin the environment wouldn't probably be that hatred-filled. Most of them are just selfish people into it for the mere sake of money.

We also have to remember that the Hitler episode came in the 5th season, which was the definitive Seasonal Rot season (with its horrible rap theme song).

Legend was that after being forced through the fifth season of Captain Planet, Hannah Barbera could not *wait* to drop it in favor of Dexters Laboratory
