Thanks! It was just too good a chance to pass up.
The only possible problem I see is that Lightning Bruiser and The Mario are distinguished only by how close to the mid-line their stats are, and using two different shapes for them blurs that distinction.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I love the whole set of graphs, and think the triangles are clearer than the pentagons.
(edit) only it should be attack/defense/speed, not melee/defense/speed. Glass cannons aren't necessarily known for their melee ability.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I still think it's possible and preferable to find varied images for the subpages. Concepts such as 'Strong but slow' or 'Quick but fragile' aren't too complicated. Why can't we all agree that I'm right, goddamnit?
This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish. The Mario is average at everything. Lightning Bruiser is just fast, tough, and hits hard. So, to put it in Dungeons And Dragons terms, The Mario has a 10 or so in every stat * , while the Lightning Bruiser has high stats in Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution.
I'd say that if the only stats given are speed, attack and defense, a Lightning Bruiser is just a broken The Mario. However, if there's other stats, like some kind of range attack that the Lightning Bruiser completely lacks any ability in, it becomes balanced again.
Fight smart, not fair.^^ I know that. But the graphs don't make it clear. Lightning Bruiser and The Mario look too much alike if they aren't both the same shape. It looks like the difference is how many stats there are, not how far out from the center the colored area ends.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. Then in that case, you have a good point.
How about a good old fashioned bar chart with a common number each class must reach?
I TELL YOU HWAT!Well, The Mario getting renamed Jack of All Stats is as good a reason as any to bump this for resolution.
Do we need to crowner?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Between bar graphs, pentagons, and triangles? Do we have any other options that are worth considering?
Honestly, I want the graphs to be concise and clear.
Here's my idea: Have only three stats - attack, speed, defense. They are mostly the ones that are important. As in the case for Lightning Bruiser, simply add a small asterisk: *May have other factors
I still don't like the graphs at all. I'd much rather have in-game screenshots like the current image for The Mario.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Yeah, I still don't understand why we can't try to find images that are varied and interesting to look at.
The tank doing a wheelie, for example, what's wrong with that?

This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.No one's said that's out of the question, it's just going to be a big effort to find pics for all of these pages, especially if we try to keep a theme. When this thread started I did a few GIS for exactly those things... I didn't come up with anything remotely good. Then again, I was looking for other Mario Kart pics. Maybe breaking theme?
By all means, if someone brings in pictures of actual examples that'd be ideal. So... anyone got proposals?

Even if we do get indicative pictures for all these tropes, I would still like to have the graphs on the supertrope that lists and compares them.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! That sounds like an idea. A collage of graphs on the supertrope, which act as placeholders on the actual trope pages until someone finds a better one (like the one from Mario Kart).
I much prefer having the charts on the trope pages; specific examples are nice, but in these cases it seems preferable to have something more general purpose.
I'd be fine with charts as placeholders for the subpages (except The Mario and Lightning Bruiser). I also think charts on the main page for Competitive Balance could be a good idea.
Willbyr, why do you think it seems preferable to use graphs in these cases?

This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.I oppose putting a graph on The Mario page. The current image already clearly illustrates the trope, and is much better than the graphs.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWhy not put up both a graph and an image? I'm sure the screen resolution people have nowadays can handle it.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Because it looks bad and is redundant. I'm fine with putting graphs on the supertrope page though.

I really can't decide between the pentagons and the pyramids...and nice little Shout-Out in the Mario graph.
