Cultural fun fact #1 about the US: the most recognizable American in any country is Homer Simpson.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.

Bah. Cultural Cringe sucks. When Americans are the ones cringing, anyway.

Gonna do my part and see the film anyway, though.

I was looking forward to this movie. Thankfully, I live in Australia and thus, the import product is always the British one.

Yannow, living in the Replacement Goldfish country for America does have it's perks :)

So, the release date for the American version is tomorrow. Despite the changes, do you guys still want to see it?

I got 3 events to go to this weekend. I doubt I'd get to the theater, but this movie is the highest on my list on films to see this week!

Absolutely. Considering the success Aardman has had in America with its past films, this one deserves all the help it can get.

[up] I've seen part of it that way, but not the whole thing. Mainly because the text is in Spanish, so the majority of Mr. Bobo's gags are lost.

[up] Unfortunately, the RT rating has been slowly dropping over the last few days. Currently at 87%. Which, I admit, is still not bad, but below Aardman's average. Fortunately, it's already made back almost its entire budget internationally, and it hasn't even opened in most places yet.

Might go see it on Sunday with one of my BFFs.

From the Rotten Tomatoes page:

It may not quite scale Aardman's customary delirious heights, but The Pirates! still represents some of the smartest, most skillfully animated fare that modern cinema has to offer.

Sounds pretty good. Now let's hope the rest of America thinks so.

However, I think they totally should have used this song in the credits;

You gotta admit, it fits this movie like a glove.

Box Office Mojo predicts #3 ranking behind The Five Year Engagement and Think Like A Man. But it also notes that it will probably still do well like the other Aardman films.

Think Like A Man was released last week and was a Sleeper Hit for #1. The Five Year Engagement is out this week. This week is mostly considered a lull week until The Avengers comes out next week.

...uh oh.

... Then should I wait until next week and brave the stampede of comic nerds? I fear for the poor poor films that have to compete with The Avengers.

Crap. I've been so worried about it having to compete with Madagascar 3 that I totally forgot The Avengers.

I went to see it today with a friend, and enjoyed it massively. Even if it was changed for USA/Canada (I don't see why - Canadian sensibilities are a lot closer to the UK than America).

Favourite part: all the jokes about Surprisingly Curvaceous Pirate. Also, BRIAN BLESSED. And Black Bellamy's utterly ridiculous entrance. And Charles Darwin acting like a depressive teenager. And the monkey. And the whole movie.
