I never felt the Fate series ever had all that much respect for her.

On paper she should be awesome but everyone is always shit talking her and she gets few opportunities to prove her capabilities. Not to mention the stretch of time she spends damselled and bent over an altar in very suggestive imagery.

Don't forget that saber is under a handicap by having a weaker master. Especially when compared to UBW where even a Rin that sharing mana with shirou still has enough mana to where saber is capable of using Excalibur at least once.

Yeah, but full powered Saber doesn't really get to show her stuff when Rin becomes her master.

Even then, Assassin still gives her trouble, even though he was supposed to be much weaker.

I suppose it's the problem of hyping her up, then having to nerf her so much.

Or always saying she's the best only so that other's can look better by giving her trouble.

Yeah one thing UBW does poorly is explain why Saber is so weak

The reasoning is two-fold: Shirou is a super weak master (meaning that Saber can't use her full power) and she was improperly summoned. Meaning that she has far less power than she should (and iirc in Heaven's Feel she does show just how powerful she should be).

Though Saber does show a bit of her power at the end of UBW when she uses Excalibur (showing just how powerful she could've been) as well as the main Fate route where she regains her strength through, uh, methods.

Pretty sure saber was trying to reserve energy when fighting assassin before she got serious and took him out in one blow. I also mentioned that Rin had shared mana with shirou which meant by the final battle she had helped fuel unlimited blade works and still had mana to allow saber to use Excalibur to destroy the grail.

Honestly I imagine most servants wouldn't last long with some of the handicaps saber gets because of having a poor master and improper summoning.

Pretty sure saber was trying to reserve energy when fighting assassin before she got serious and took him out in one blow.
You're only half-right, in that she was indeed trying to conserve energy due to knowing that Assassin is merely an obstacle between her and the far more dangerous Gilgamesh.

What you got wrong is what led to her finally getting past Assassin: It's not that she eventually got serious on him, it's that he had enough of her hesitation (and maybe his honorable side acknowledged the reason behind said hesitation as admirable) and opted to trick her into making that one step up the stairway that she had so far refused to take (because it puts her straight within the inescapable range of Assassin's Tsubame Gaeshi), putting her in a situation where she only has two options, with absolutely no possibility of forcing a third one: stay blade-locked with him for a 100% chance of staying alive (until her master, Rin, dies), or break the blade-lock and attack him at the 100% risk of him attacking her with Tsubame Gaeshi in turn.

The only reason that she ever survived is that Assassin's trick just so happened to bend his sword ever so slightly... which was more than enough to induce a deviation in the trifecta of slashes that constitute Tsubame Gaeshi, opening up a vulnerability in the otherwise invincible death-trap of said technique, one that Saber's extaordinarily high Luck and/or Instinct managed to capitalize on.

Noel Vermillion from Blaz Blue could work as well.

Gene Starwind would get wrecked so hard.

Vash is in the...

Vash is... f'ck it, just watch the clip.

He did that anime thing were you move so fast people don't see you do sh't until you've already done said sh't. Like mid-conversation he undid the bounty hunter's top. Said lady also had Rolo Lamperouge's Geass that let her slow down other people's reaction times IIRC.

At another point, Vash, per his Thou Shalt Not Kill mantra, manipulates a shooting contest by accurately flicking pebbles at such a speed that he managed to deflect every shot fired during the contest, just to make sure no one suffered a fatal hit.

Or the time he managed to remove every last bullet in the guns of around 30 men during a bar brawl, in under a minute, without anyone noticing that he did that until afterwards.

Plus there’s his Angel Arm and all the stuff he got in the manga, like his Automatic Angel Wing defense and his black hole and subspace bullets.

Thematically, Vash having a black hole gun, being a genetically-engineered creature, and existing in some pseudo-space western setting, I can kind of see why he'd be a good thematic choice to pit against Gene - what with Gene having a black hole gun, protecting an artificially-grown human, and existing in a space-age setting with samurai, Taoist space pirates, and wrestling circuits.

But Vash is just too darned fast, albeit, I haven't watched Outlaw Star in awhile and maybe Gene had similar moments of ludicrous speed.

gene has fought against magic users and has a gun for that which included if I am not mistaken powerful caster bullets that acted like small black holes.

Well Vash's black hole bullets are made from him channeling his Plant powers into a gun, and consume everything within a 1 km radius around the point of impact.

What about Mami from Puella Magi Madoka vs Vash? Or Noel from Blaz Blue?

Since Ben seems to be aware that Ichigo vs. Yusuke is also a popular battle idea, I wonder how long it will take for Ichigo to be in another death battle.

Only took Batman like 13 episodes between his fight vs. Spider Man to get to his fight vs. Captain America.

Mami from Puella Magi Madoka vs Vash? Or Noel from Blaz Blue?

Now this is a fight scene. Gon vs Hisoka can suck it.

I honestly don't even know. I'd wager Vash is still faster, but I'm not about to figure out the math on whether Vash's bullet-dodging or Mami's is more impressive.

But if Mami's magical girl powers are similar to Homura's - Homura shot herself in the head and that didn't seem to kill her. Although Mami feared it would so... shrug. It's established in the series itself only breaking their soul gem can kill them, but neither Mami or Kyouko seem to be aware of this.

So if blowing her own brains out didn't kill her, then...

Wait. Vash shouldn't be in Death Battle at all. He is literally the last character in existence that should be in battle.

I don't play Blaz Blue and probably never will, so nothing to add.

That's accurate. Magical girls in this setting are basically liches; any damage done to their bodies is temporary. Unless you destroy their phylactery, they cannot be killed. But this is not common knowledge among the magical girls themselves, which is why Homura was able to nail Mami with the shock and awe of her suicide gambit.

yeah the others were not aware of the soul gem until sayaka's body collapsed when separated from her soul gem. The soul gem can heal damage, but I believe it does have a limit in regards to healing before it gets tainted.

[up] (3) Well yeah, but compare Batman's history of killing people to Vash struggling to kill one person. I don't know how many he killed in the manga, but he kills about... 1 person in the entire anime and it gave him a Heroic BSoD.

Vash really, really does not like killing people, like, at all. Batman is a bonafide serial killer with an inkling of a conscience embedded in a nonsensical moral code.

[up][up] [up]

Ah, so then if there are limits then I guess Vash stands a chance. Though how exactly you hit the Soul Gem... I'll have to look and see if Mami keeps it on the front of her shirt or not, or if it's hidden inside of each magical girl, or if Kyuubey holds it.

Still, I suppose Vash's Angel Arm would probably take care of it.

All personal restrictions against killing are removed in a Death Battle by definition.

Hell, most of these fights wouldn't happen if these characters were written with their regular personalities.

Conversely, I looked up Gon vs Hisoka and I have to ask; what the hell was the writer thinking when he created Hisoka? That guy's like Pennywise with supernatural martial arts.

Soble Since: Dec, 2013
#30325: Oct 25th 2017 at 7:00:50 AM

I know, I'm being facetious. It's just funny that a character who would be so against killing would be altered so that they would kill without a thought.

Nobody expected Superman to lobotomize Goku either even though the rule about killing has always been the same. This one just affects me more than Superman blowing up the earth because, while Superman doesn't typically kill either, I'm more used to seeing depictions of him where he does, or had to for some reason.

[up] He's the same guy who made Yu Yu Hakusho. The author has some personal demons, and I say that half-seriously, because a lot of his characters are either aesthetically, or thematically FUBAR.

I don't know what the inspiration for Hisoka was. I guess the author just thought clowns were creep.
