I nominated Smurf: Rescue from Gargamel's Castle.

I played this when the Coleco Vision was launched, and it was more or less a TECH DEMO for the console's graphic capabilities (which were stunning at the time, when compared to the 2600 and Intellivision.)

But holy fuck, was it easy. You could beat it in TWO MINUTES after TAKING THE CART OUT OF THE BOX! Still played it a lot of times over the course of the game's life, because the graphics and music were awesome.

There was this modern air combat game in an arcade I played a long time ago where you literally could not lose or die. Either your co-pilot corrected you at the very last second, the enemy got shot down or "scared off" by support units, or the mission could be accomplished simply by flying straight or not even making the slightest adjustment to your flightstick (the refueling and aircraft missions come to mind). However you were graded on your performance, and the game wasn't so forgiving with it's time limits or ammo supply. I guess the actual challenge was supposed to be getting the high scores, not just completion of the missions.

Well, this game is freaking easy but I dont think it is THAT easy to call it the easiest videogame of All-time, but still, just look at this boss (If we ever have a thread about easy bosses this will be my first weapon):

Ah, fuck it. This forum has one of the worst formats than I have ever seen.

Kingdom Hearts 2 on Beginner. Still fun as hell though. Diagonal Cut on buildings against a giant soulless mecha dragon battleship never gets old.

If someone had not mentioned Big Rigs, I was going to. And then disqualify it myself, because I refuse to call that a game.

Never played it, but I've seen the videos.

Getting shit to display right in a post on this forum = harder than Contra NES

At least Contra has the Konami code, this board doesn't even have a preview :(

I think there should be a genuine difference between an easy videogame that's actually a videogame and an easy videogame that's a technical demo or a novelty.

much like unwinnable by design vs. unwinnable by mistake.

Winnable by mistake?

That would be interesting.

That would be Space Chem.

No I don't: I made an analogy in that the clear distinction between those tropes even though the observable output is exactly the same - situation I refer to as black box - is the reason the game comes to the observable outcome in question, wherein unwinnable by design means it's intentional while unwinnable by mistake means it's untintentional, now replace "winnability" with "easiness" as the observable output, and you realise that easiness may be present because the game is simply not rcally challenging or because the game, due to the overall shortness or sequence breaking or being an art statement etc fails to offer any challenge whatsoever.

I hope you follow my thought-chain, run on sentences are where it's at, yo.

A thing I realized once that really changed my life is that if people cannot tell if you are being sarcastic, that's not because their intelligence could be better, at least just a bit closer to your heavenly levels, that's because they consider you to be a sort of person who would really say that with a straght face, believe in it and mean it - that should really help to find a way to change your goddamn self.

Random usage of trope names in conversation is not where it's at.

Or because it's the Internet and text doesn't convey tone or facial/body language.

Unless of course your post was sarcastic, which pretty much would prove my point.

> text doesn't convey tone or facial/body language.

The strongest way of manipulating and conveying emotions is through pure text, in my opinion. There're also emoticons, various fonts and font styles, and so on. there's also a lot of ways to convey sarcasm such as randomly adding words like "totally". though graphic emoticons are a lot like eldritch spawns: they can be cute in some way sometimes, but they just shouldn't exist.

however when someone is sarcastically replying with "Yea, sure", I parry with "Glad you agree with me on that". Boy does that piss people off. fun fact: sarcastic agreement with a sarcastic reply is a 2x facepalm combo and if you keep racking up points like that you both get an achievement and a platinum basement to dwell in.

but back on the topic: a really good example of "easy because design's bad" is State Of War - an RTS only I played apparently - that manages to be both nintendo hard and easier than easy at the same time. It's easy because the gameplay's so streamlined, there is no real strategy to speak of - but it's hard because some missions are incredibly unfair. ramirez do everything.
