Colorful mod posts

Where did this come from?

Mainly to grab your attention so people can't ignore it.

Came from Olympia, where the Mods make their official decisions to smite a thread...Or a person.

Only rarely do the Mods descend from their godly thrones to grace us mere mortals with their presence. The Mod Voice is to let us know when they are smiting.

The coolest part is that their avatars change as well.

I was wondering about this too....

Usually the    MOD HAT ON    seemed like enough to make people pay attention, but I guess they just wanted something even more obvious?

This is pretty awesome. Especially the avatar thing; I didn't notice that.

I wonder if there is a special markup or something, like for thumping posts...

If there is, I doubt the mods will be revealing it to us anytime soon.

Mod Hats I've seen:

Fighteer: Black Hole.

Camacan: Same avatar with a Warhammer 40 K-esque hat shopped onto it.

Bobby G: Pony with a Chicken on its head.

The basic thump markup is pretty much common knowledge now, which is probably part of why the mods tend to favor the cinnamon-colored thump messages.

Should be cinnamon-flavoured, if you ask me.

Then it's only a matter of time before the information gets leaked.

In reality, it's just going to remain a secret among the mods or will be a special action that will only be open to them.

The thump messages were leaked shortly after they appeared mainly because anyone who gets thumped can simply click the edit button and see the thump markup.

The only people who would have access to edit mod posts would be other mods, who already know the mod-hat markup, assuming "mod-hat markup" is a thing at all.

...but no, I'm pretty sure they've got a button for that, like the Skullfuck button.

For some reason, when I first saw the red mod posts, I imagined it as a checkbox they tick on the "add post" screen.

...Let's ask Bobby, I'm sure he'll tell us how they do it, as long as it's not something non-mods can imitate.
