Can this be cut?: Anime Armor Cylinders

So, I tried to cutlist it before, but it remained. It doesn't seem to have gone through YKTTW, and it has only two examples, to the point that I wonder if it isn't simply a Too Rare To Trope deal.

I've seen this. I think it's a trope. I think it should be sent to YKTTW to flesh it out.

What the hell is this... no description, no picture, no examples.... YKTTW it and cut this page.

Well if it gets a consensus to be cut here, then you can try and put it on the Cut List again link to this thread as evidence other people agree with you. Sometimes the cut master needs more convincing.

I'm completely in favor for anime-centric tropes to exist on this site. That said, CUTLIST THE HELL OUT OF IT!

Sometimes Skiffy armor has knobs or protrusions on it? Really?

A wizard's staff may have a knob on the end, but I don't know if we need a trope for the knob. (For the song...maybe...) :)

Call me a lumper if you want, but I think this is way too specific, even if we can find a third or fourth example. Armor often has decorations. I'm not saying that we should merge this into Armor Decoration, but maybe we could make something a little broader and more widely applicable? Like, Pointless Skiffy Armor Bumps? YKTTW at the least.

Yeah, cut this and send it through YKTTW. It should not have launched with only two examples.

Are we talking about those things like on Cloud's shoulder guard? I think I've seen those...

Bump. This still has two examples and no wicks and seems like trivia at best. Still supporting cut, YKTTW optional if anyone wants to bother.

If someone things this has trope potential and should be brought back to YKTTW, by all means do so, but for the sake of simplicity, I would say keep the current page up and running while you are doing the YKTTW, and when the YKTTW page has reached the point of being ready for launch, you can just edit the existing article with any changes in description and additional examples. Even if you determine that a new name is needed, you can launch an article under the new name and turn this into a redirect.

Personally I have no idea if this has trope potential, but if it does there is no point in wasting the existing page.

I still have no idea what this trope is let alone if its tropable... how has this not been cut I dont know.

A Google of Oni kneepads example [1].... so this trope is about bolts in armor?

You know how mechas in anime sometimes have cylindrical protrusions on them for no apparent reason? It's those. Yes, Cloud has them on his shoulder guard too.

I've seen this enough times to know what the trope is about, so I'd say on that basis it is tropeable. However, I cant for the life of me think of an example.

Hmmm... yeah, those are just bolts. Okay, it looks like that, only they arent bolts, they look more like cylinders, or flat topped cones.

I tried an image search and the closest I got was Potemkin from Guilty Gear, who has something like this on his chest restraint. I know I've seen mechas with huge cylinders sticking out of their shoulder armour before, but I cant think where.

Mecha it would be bolts rivets or Spikes of Villainy (The Zaku II and Gouf from Gundam use spikes)

I was under the impression it meant stuff like this. Honestly, I haven't seen anyone do this in anime since like 1993.

Cutlist it.

Wow... that's a lot of cylinders.

I keep thinking of those old mecha animes and videogames. Hmmm..... I'll try google again and see if I can find what I mean.

Okay, this Mecha has them on it's knees [1], and.... Thats all I could find. And It's a bad example.

God this is frustrating. I know I've seen this. It tends to show up on ablative armour, like Sheilds, Shoulder armour, and Power Fists, and also on leg guards.

Raso's image definitely makes me think Spikes of Villainy more than bolts. The main thing is, I'm not convinced this is anything other that Cool Armor Decorations But More Specific, or, at best, Spikes of Villainy But Blunter. Also, the name doesn't really match the common dome-like version that the article mentions.

Another question I have is: is this really Anime-specific? Might be worth checking out images from some western SF to see if anything similar turns up. My suspicion is that they will, in which case, a name like Ambiguous Spikes might be better.

If anyone really wants to take it to YKTTW under this name, then I'd be fine with leaving it till the YKTTW is done, because cuts get an automatic lock these days. But I think a broader, less-specific trope would be better, so I think a cut is the best option. With only two examples and no wicks, it's no great loss.

Seems like it's definitely tropeable: we've got a handful of examples already. It just needs a better title and description. It seems to me that these things are usually a type of greeble, a bit of visual flair that serves no purpose except to make the design a little more interesting to look at.

I say cut. If it's actually a trope, eventually someone will YKTTW it again, hopefully better.

Yes, I really like the idea of a Greeble trope. I think that would be a far better topic.
