So the artist for extra credits (Allison Theus) needs to have a major surgery on her shoulder or else she won't be able to draw. Thanks to 'merica's current health care she's been denied coverage by her insurance company. So the extra credits team set up a donation page (along with some goodies for donating at certain tiers) looking to raise $15,000 in sixty days to pay for the surgery and replacement artists while she's away. After one day they've raised 37,000 dollars for the cause.

Say what you will about the escapist, but god damnit that's alotta love.

I always liked the Escapist forums before tv tropes snatched me off them.

Now that's awesome.

Any community has its group of dumb people, but the fact that people are that generous is quite nice, if you ask me. I would have donated myself if I hadn't already seen that they went 10K over the mark by the time I got there. Plus, Extra Credits is awesome, that might contribute to why they got so many donations.

That explains the cast in the "Reviews" episode.

Going by that and the previous thumped post, are you gonna spend your entire time in this topic bitching about anything Escapist-related?

So what do you guys think they'll do with the left over cash? Donate it to Child's Play?

Hate the everloving fuck out of their pretentious show, but this was really fucking nice, so I think it all evens out.

I'm impressed that two people already donated $5,000 (each!) just to get the guy to fly out and hang with them.

While their generosity is pretty awesome, and it is clear there are a lot of nice people there, the Escapist forums are still one of the worse places on the Internet. Not quite 4chan or Bioware Social Network bad, but not far away from it.

Excuse me for derailing the thread, but what makes the escapist community so bad? I don't visit the threads, only the videos.

[on topic] When I heard that the got more than enough money in a short amount of time, I almost cried out of joy.

If we can have CMO Hs on 4chan and SA we can have them on The Escapist. There will always be good people even in the worst of places.

Having been there since '08, it feels like the maturity and intellect has dropped some. That could just be me being a sort of a "Back in my day..." prick, but I honestly think that there's a lot more problems than there used to be and maybe the mods have gone a little too soft for my liking. Also the Religion/Politics board was an awful idea from the start.

I still post there all the time though.

Actually, I still think that since this story doesn't really contradict this.

However, a one-time act of kindness is hardly a prove that they "rock". Not that I care about them anyway.

Well what can you say? This is an impressive display of generosity.

I am impressed by this show of generosity. I don't post on The Escapist forums too much, mostly to make a comment about Yahtzee's stuff once in a while (around the lines of "Well actually...") and some other guys.

Nyarly You'd be amazed how many people there dislike Yahtzee. I'm turning that way.

But to get back on topic, I've always liked Daniel Floyd's work ever since he was just on Youtube. This just increases my respect for him and makes me trust humanity a little more.

I like Extra Credit. The guy has some pretty interesting things to say that are worth listening to. Aside from Yahtzee, I go on that site for both his stuff and Shamus Young's stuff (he's also doing a really surly LP of Fallout: New Vegas along with some other guys as well).
