I think I've addressed all the feedback so far on Beauty Will Tear Us Apart, and I want to put it up on Fimfic this week. But any last-minute comments would be appreciated.
The pony version of shipping is spegging, "speg" being short for "pegging them as special someponies".
I do have to ask... was the Double Entendre intended or did you just sort of trip over it?
Like the last landing on the step when you're walking down in the dark.
As a reminder, here's Chapter 1 of my story, Geomancy. It's just about done editing, I think, but I still don't feel ready to post it. Mostly stage fright, I think.
Here's the headcanon/fanon, RE: Magic, I'm specifically using for this fic, although it's all subject to change.
And finally, here's the first draft of Chapter 2.

Hey, guys, remember that Rarity plushie Spike had? The girls found out where he got it.
Unrequited love circle needs to be more of a thing.
That was adorable!
Spike bathes with his plusher?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Bathing with a plushie sounds like a good way to end up with a permanently-deformed plush.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Ah. Seems like a lot of work to end up with a much less-cuddlable plush for the sake of a very niche advantage.

Is it just me, or are humans- not humanity, individual humans- seriously overpowered a lot in fics, especially where magic is concerned? I get having some immunity, if only to level the playing field (and, hey, different worlds, different physics), but it seems to go beyond that with some frequency, mainly to provide additional conflict (see Anti-Magic- another thing that bugs me about Misunderstandings). Heck, I was enjoying Harmony Theory-but-with-Rarity up until Megan managed to freeze Firefly in time and mute her just by snapping her fingers.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Huh, I had no idea that was a common trope.
shame. I had an idea a while back about a story where the conflict was a human slowly destroying magic in Equestria - Magic runs on Clap Your Hands If You Believe, which normally isn't an issue since the volume of evidence makes everypony believe it - but when a skeptic shows up he doesn't believe in it, causing magic to fail in his presence, which in turn spreads doubt in magic to other ponies. But since the world is so damaged that it's unable to sustain itself, they need magic to keep it running, so he, and other ponies, have to be re-convinced of magic before the skepticism reaches a certain point...
I had thought it was a more unique idea than it seems to be. Ah well, I was unlikely to ever write it anyways.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Humans are one of the magically underpowered races in my 'verse.
Eh, at least that's a halfway original/plausible reason.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty. In kind of absolutely hate tha. Anything involving Clap Your Hands If You Believe nauseates me.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I tend to not have humans in my pony stuff, so I haven't really thought much about it.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm building one where the MC is a human and while she is a wizard, she hasn't got an inch of a bone when it comes to natural talent. So she makes up for it with lots and lots of practice under a stern mentor and a real tough instructor. Unfortunately, it comes with several drawbacks for her part.
@Handle: If it helps, think of it like WAAAAAGH: Each individual Ork(pony) has a small amount of natural, inborn WAAGH, or Psychic power(magic). On its own, it's not really enough to do anything(Although the older an Ork gets, the stronger it's WAAGH gets, causing them to grow indefinitely larger and stronger. Like, there's an Ork that's a planet, levels of indefinite).
However, while individual WAAGH might never be as strong as a a human Psyker, the Orks have the benefit of every Ork having WAAGH is that the fields lattice together - as a result in an Orks presence, things that shouldn't work, do. They make ships go faster by painting them red. Their 'guns' are literally hollow cases full of screws. Their technology is just slapping sheets of scrap metal together, and it only works because their collective psychic power makes it work.
Okrs still have a power, and psychic powers are an established part of the series, but Orks are so rock-stupid that theirs only works because they believe in what's occurring.(I mean that's excusing the Odd Boyz, but eh).
Basically: Ponies do have actual magic, and their magic is a force of the universe, but the strength of any ponies individual magic is too weak to have any active effects. Ponies can only do active magic by combining their collective magical fields and subconsciously working towards the effect via believing it can happen.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Ah. That's like changing a consensus reality, which then has concrete effects on the grounds. Like when one does or doesn't recognize the existence of a country.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.To those who pre-read Beauty Will Tear Us Apart, I have two questions about tagging it on Fimfic. Do I have enough jokes to label it [Comedy][Adventure] rather than just [Adventure]? And can I get away with tagging Twilight Sparkle as a character? She only has the one scene at the beginning, but she sort of looms in the background of Ditzy's conversations with Trixie.
Yeah, I'd probably qualify it as a Comedy and Adventure. I think Twi's too secondary to consider for character tags, though.

I hate that. It's antithetical to everything her character stands for and conveys a sense that the future is always going to be worse than the present.
It gives Present Twilight something to overcome. Seems like a basic and reasonable way to set up a conflict to me. I don't think the ultimate conclusion would be cynical if Present Twilight ends the story resolved to maintain a hopeful spirit about her future circumstances.
That sounds interesting, or maybe I'm just biased because I quite like Napoleon. What makes a pony a Napoleon analogue though?
