I'll also be missing the chat tomorrow - friend is having a piano recital.
I think I'll miss the chat, I got work from 1 pm to 9 pm
@Clever Dunno, I was with mature on. Disabling it doesn't change anything. Maybe is a per-country thing.
@Unknown Light The moment EVERY ad provider get their shit together, and define a standard for ads that is at least a) unobtrusive (ads with auto-music player with strident/horrendous songs, I'm looking at you), b) inoffensive, and c) don't try to sell me useless crap that isn't even relevant to the page I'm in, then I'll think about it. Until then, Imma gonna block everything without prejudice nor mercy, and pretty sure that's most people idea. It's not about being a bastard with the pages that have ads. If they want it to be a viable source of revenue, they should at lest learn that the way they are doing it now is not liked by many and why.
Also, I'm poor as a rat. So why load ads at all?
...I've been in this argument far too many times than is healthy for me, and I guess I've had really negative experiences in those because I already want to scream my head off.
The selfish entitlement so many people show is so astounding to me. That people are so unwilling to look slightly to the left/right of any given page (so as to not see the ads) that they're fine with harming the livelihoods of the people who provide them with free content... and feel proud and superior because they do so.
And nothing I ever say changes minds. Ever. Not a single person. People always logic themselves out of any guilt, and somehow manage to turn it around so that they think that the people serving them should feel guilty for not giving up even more of themselves for your sake.
It's seems so minor, but it's so hurtful to the internet in the long run and it's so petty and disgusting how many people refuse to see that and I need to leave before I get even more upset...

Well... I don't have adblocker.
I do get annoyed at some ads, though. Like, yes, I know Elsa was the villain in earlier drafts of the script. That movie came out a fucking year ago, find some better clickbait.
Anyway, yesterday I wasn't able to do my 25 minutes. Was able to today - got 800 words written, though about 200 of them probably aren't very usable.
I keep the ads on on sites that guarantee their unobtrusiveness, like Fimfiction. But I never, ever want to have to sift though my tabs, trying to find where the horrible bell or the fighting airplanes or the creepy Christmas music is coming from. I'll gladly pay donations directly to the site instead.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.In Chrome, there's a little speaker icon next to the tab name if that tab is playing audio.
[[Tabsplosion Only if the tabs are big enough.]]
If there were an Adblock that blocked only the sound of ads...
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I have no problem with ads appearing on the sides where they don't do any harm. That's why I took so long to actually install adblock. What I have a problem with is ads covering what I'm trying to look at and making it really difficult for me to actually do what I'm trying to do, especially when it blocks me from clicking things I want to click. All this in addition to eating up the data I get allocated when I buy internet and making load times ridiculous. I started blocking adds because it was actually making browsing very difficult.
EDIT: Yes! The ones that started playing sound are the worst! I can never find them a I work with many tabs, they eat up enormous amounts of internet and they affect other people nearby or blast my headphones while I'm trying to do something else!

For me the biggest blessing of AdBlock is being able to watch YouTube videos (and show them to other people) without having to sit through an obnoxious hairspray commercial first.
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...The ads I get on my youtube are pretty damn cool. Often I stay and watch them all the way. I remember back when I was a child and ads were my favourite part of watching TV.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.this, except I have noscript. Fimfiction, tvtropes, derpibooru, and youtube are about the only sites I leave completely unblocked.
agreed! some of those youtube ads are actually pretty cool.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, huh?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Sometimes you get film trailers with those on Youtube. That's awesome in itself.
You know what else is awesome? Groupspanning. I thought my story was dead, as readership trickled down to one dude a day. Then I start dropping the story in one group after another, and she gets a second wind!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. That's the only reason I've even heard of Tusk- getting the trailer playing in the background when I was just trying to listen to a song at work.
Then there was the time they tacked on the 40-minute documentary about the credit system....
(actually pretty interesting)

UL: Hey, now, I just told you I white list what I think I can trust. Like Sereg, I only block them if they're doing harm. Hell, I didn't have No Script for the longest time because I also wanted to give sites the benefit of the doubt. But then I ran into a slew of the fake download virus/keylogger ads and me getting No Script was a direct response to that. So surprise, surprise, I don't trust sites that allow that fail to filter their ads enough to ensure malicious crap that will try to hijack my computer is not in their rotation. Crashing out some part or all of my browser is also something I don't take too kindly to. If people want me to put up with their ads, they need to put effort into them, which includes not dropping some half-assed unoptimized crap that someone programmed in five minutes.
Hell, I'm the person who lets Twitch ads through with their lack of volume control and obtrusiveness when I join a channel. I let the full ads on Youtube play out instead of hitting skip. So I like to think I'm still pretty lenient.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiNew DSBC installment finally out. (And apparently so are the trolls.)
Also putting forth for today Harmony Defended, as that updates on Saturdays and is the sequel to My Little Apprentice, which is buried in one of my earlier rec-dump posts. (When I point out a work, that includes all derivative works unless noted.)
Writing was disrupted today. Watched a movie. Not getting in my 25 minutes today. Will try tomorrow, but it's gonna be busy. We'll see. If nothing else, I'll publish chapter 3 of my FOE fic.
If there are no further objections, I'll post the next chapter of A Debt to the Stars soon. Tonight at the earliest and Wednesday at the latest (accounting for me unexpectedly running out of internet just before I planned to post). I'll only post tonight if I get everything ready on time and no one asks me to delay to give them a bit more time.
Sure, go ahead. I'm sorry I didn't get around to prereading it in time – I've had a bit less time and energy to spare this week than I'd expected.
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...I understand. It happens to me too.
Yeah looks good to me, likely some spots that could still use some polish, but it's at the point where now it's just endless nitpicking trying to get some ideal 'perfection' that will never realistically be found.
At first I was against adblock, but then I began running into invisible autoplaying video ads.
Yup. There was Super Smash Brothers: Disharmony, which looked promising until it quickly went on hiatus. There are probably others too.
