...okay, okay, I'll head over to the Beautiful Game thread. Just wanted to share my excitement.

So, again, what do you guys think of incorporating Theogony into the ponyverse? Do we have a fanon of the genealogy of the gods?

That depends entirely on whether one views Discord/Alicorns/Tirek etc. as divine beings. I can definitely see how it would be interesting to approach the subject like that, but personally I find them more interesting as non-divine characters that just happen to be really powerful.

@Seraphem: I know, I was kinda torn on whether to do the town hall or SAA. The latter is the obvious choice, but due to the nature of their last big conflict in the story, I think that thematically it might be better to have them tie the knot on "neutral ground", so to speak.

Ponies of Olympus more or less equates the alicorns et al. to the Greek pantheon, though it has only been vaguely explained so far.

Discord is allegedly the Anthropomorphic Personification of, well, Discord (and, strangely enough, Chaos as well, even though they aren't identical concepts...). That sounds pretty goddish to me.

Or since it was the cause of the issue. (Yes I know the general idea of the issue if not the exact details.) A sign of them moving on past it, having reached an agreement and getting on with their lives together, of not letting that one argument pull them apart.

Given Ponies value Harmony over all else, unfettered Chaos pretty much would be the same as Discord to them.

Still, as much as it goes against what canon was shown later, Still love the Equestrian origin from Mines of Dragon Mountain the most. It even had Tirak. Even more badass, powerful, and insanely destructive then in the show. So much he pretty much caused Ragnarock and killed all the gods on the planet before being defeated by the last few remaining, including Luna and Tia's parents who were essentially the physical manifestations of Matter, and Energy. (The Sisters are the physical embodiments of Gravity, but are still young and haven't grown into their full power.) Oh, and of course a single brown Earth Pony with an odd blue box.

Nah, you see, unfettered Chaos is much worse: there isn't anything to be discordant about, there are no tensions to be had, no order to wreck. Discord is a false key. Chaos is deafening white noise in a sea of silence.

But to the ponies, the Chaos is a massive discord to their Harmony.

I think the short version is that Discord likes causing chaos. Thing is, there has to be order for him to mess with.

It might be fun to write a stroy where Discord teams up with the Harmonies in order to fight a primordial Chaos who is essentially a very windy and messy Grey Goo.

The Smooze?

Yes. Anything but.

No, the Smooze is too goo-ey. Chaos also means "air". It has to be, like, The Perfect Storm. The stormiest most destructive storm to have ever stormed. Like a black sandstorm that tears you to pieces.

A Smooze-nado?

I just don't like the word "Smooze". It sounds like one of those snot-like toys for children that's fluorescent green and you're supposed to delight in throwing around and squeezing and sticking to stuff.

I mean, you can't begin your History of the Cosmos with "In the beginning, there was Smooze..."

Nobody would ever take you seriously for having that as the start of your Theogony. Nothing or Darkness would serve better, in my opinion.

Lots of horrible things have silly names. The only reason Fat Man and Little Boy don't sound cutesy anymore is because of the weapons that had those names.

Discord is a shred of chaos that was torn off during the battle between Chaos and Order that formed the universe, discarded onto Equestria.

A similar shred of Order, called Harmony, also fell to Equestria.

As with their parents, their existence balanced the world, though the ponies reviled Discord, for he sowed discontent among them. He began a great war that shattered the world, and during the madness he was weakened and cast out, for he had been too close.

In his absence, Harmony reigned... and the reign was cruel. Harmony demanded sameness and order, and did not tolerate those who stepped outside the mould. Eventually he even ate the wings of the sun and the moon, so they too would have to follow his order.

The only stallion who would dare to speak out against Harmony was Polaris Platinum. Polaris sought out Discord, and asked for his help. Discord, who saw an opportunity, agreed: He forged Polaris a magical suit of armour that could withstand Harmony's magic. With this, Discord promised, Harmony could not control Polaris's mind, or freeze his body.

Equipped, Polaris now confronted Harmony. Harmony tried to freeze Polaris, but to no avail: Discords armour had done it's work. Now on even ground, Polaris and Harmony battled for three days and three nights without tire. It seemed that the battle would rage forver; and Polaris was content. For as long as Harmony was occupied with him, he could not flex his rule over the ponies.

Just as Polaris accepted his fate, however, Discord arrived and struck down Harmony with a killing blow.

Polaris wished to thank Discord again, but Discord whispered in his ear. "It was you who won this victory," Discord told him, "Not I. That is what the ponies will believe. Who could it hurt, to let them know? They will never accept me regardless..." And so Discord bade Polaris to take trophies from the corpse of Harmony, to prove to the ponies that he had slain the beast truly, on his won. And so Polaris did, carving off Harmony's tongue, a strip of his hide, the tip of his tail, his claws, his fangs, and his left eye. He brought these elements back to the ponies, where they were cast to immortalize them. And the armour that had served Polaris well was put away, and Polaris was made king of all ponies on that day. And for a while, Discord retreated, having learned to plot from a distance...

Actually, I was intending for the elephant monarchs to look like this.

This is my logic. In most worlds, only some individuals can use magic. That simply isn’t the case in Equestria. So the mighty feats of magic that the most magical individuals in the world are completely accessable to the average dude on the street in Equestria. (Roughly. This is obviously a simplification)

The world has been confirmed round in multiple episodes. We’ve even seen globes and a model of the solar system.

As for the rest, read Titanomarchy. It’s smaller scale, but should give you a starting point.

I also have things that can fly without any means of support at all.

The dragon queen can enlarge herself to several thousand kilometres long and fly. Through space.

They do see it every day.

That’s how I use the term, but I acknowledge that not everyone does.

I don’t see Discord as a god. I don’t even see Ajimu as a god.

The term 'god' is overused and misapplied a bit in English because we don't really have the same terms a lot of other cultures do - terms like Kami or Manitou might be more appropriate for creatures like Discord, really.

Yeah we pretty much have two terms to describe higher order beings like that. God, and angels. Both with their own bagage.

Also, Sereg, yes, but Dragon. Dragon's get to tell physics to sit down and shut up, because, Dragon.

that.... is likely the issue. Pegasi, Dragons, all those, they are mythical creatures, they do not really exist. So since their very existence is impossible, them doing things that should also be impossible is easier to accept. But, when it's something like an Elephant, something that IS real. It doing something that impossible is just.. far more off putting. Basically it might be an Uncanny Valley effect. Elephants are real enough, that them breaking physics in unreal ways, feels harder to accept then something the is clearly impossible, doing the impossible.

I'd set the actual ceremony at the town hall, but the big party afterwards at Sweet Apple Acres. Happens with lots of weddings in Real Life, and this way both locations get their most appropriate role.

True. Sometimes I wish Fimfiction were like /r/polandball: moderated for quality, with stupid fads getting temporarily or permanently banned. (The phrase "fascist mods" is a Running Gag of the subreddit, but really, it's meant affectionately.)

It would never work on Fimfiction because there's a larger active userbase and far less consensus about what's "good", but a man can dream.
