And "got bored" more likely than not means "are scared shitless that the FBI is going to get them". Newsflash: doing SQL injections and D Do Sing random sites doesn't make you a l33thacker, and it certainly doesn't mean you can get away with fucking with government sites without punishment.

I'm not sure what their original purpose was, but they couldn't possibly expect anyone to side with them after DDoSing Minecraft.

What with actual hackers on their case now, they decided it was high time to GTFO and such. And for all their "Anti-Sec revolution" crap they were spewing, they managed to wake a lot of people up on the idea of improving security... Right.

Yeah, this wasn't a result of getting bored so much as of some of them getting arrested, causing the rest to realize that, holy shit, phishing and DDOS don't actually make you completely invincible.

Wow, nineteen and arrested in his parent's house? Is it fair to call him a basement dweller?

^^Yep. Lulzsec denies that this guy was one of them, but somehow their actions just don't convince me of that.

Reign of terror?
In the same way that knowing the sweaty guy who doesn't like wearing deodorant and never stops talking about how everyone else sucks compared to him might sit next to you on the bus is terrifying, yes.

@Mark:I can't really call it "terror" when their methods of obtaining people's information consisted of hoping the site didn't have security at all and, if it did, asking the people what their passwords were.

Dumbass den denizen couldn't devise a more devastating and devious method of hacking other than DDOS, what a waste of sperm and eggs.

My understanding is that he was the op of an IRC channel connected to them in some way.

My understanding is that SQL injections were also involved.

Which really isn't that hard to do.

Yeah their "terror" was pretty much the equivalent of throwing a pepper gas grenade into a rave in a European basement club - a dick move of large caliber, but nothing too terrible.

Lulz Sec? Didn't they do the same thing as Team 5 and Ante, except they quit halfway through?

They still are very forgettable, really.

'Bout time. At least they got one of 'em.

"Anti-Sec movement?" Isn't security a good thing? Guess they just want their personal info stolen.

@Kitsune: Wait, 19 year old in Britain is old enough to be considered basement dweller? ._.; That sounds rather early to me, then again, my brother was 23 before he moved away tongue

Wow, nineteen and arrested in his parent's house? Is it fair to call him a basement dweller?
No, because people don't live in their basements in Britain tongue

Seriously? It's still "no", since nineteen is an age in which you're expected to live in your parent's house. Unless you're rich, of course.

-edit-
Hah, ninja'd to the point. Here in Britain, I think the average time for moving out is late twenties/early thirties? Don't quote me on that, let me find a source...

I just turned nineteen, I'm broke and I've been living on my own for ten months. I get to call this guy a basement dweller all I damn well please, discrepancies be damned.

19 is college age. Most people that age are at least at their parents' home during the summer, and if they go to a local school, probably more.

-is nineteen and at his parents' house for the summer and felt the need to defend himself-
