I liked it.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOISWG was one of the best MM Os ever made.
The SOE went and killed it.
SWG died back then as far as I'm concerned.
I'm with Thorn, to an extent. I joined after the the NGE went into effect, but from some of the old-timers me and the wife have met, it was a better game back then, apparently. She's mostly into it for the space aspect and the crafting. I had a lot of fun playing a squishy smuggler, for what it's worth. I never did see the smuggler profession get any smuggling missions that amounted to more than dangerous pizza delivery runs...
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold. It's odd how the padawan update killed the game so hard.

I will consume not only your flesh, but your very soul.Wait, that's still active? Holy shit.
There will be private servers set up I'm sure, no more updates though :(
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? It's always sad when a MMO dies, seeing as a lot of gamers are going to be getting their hours of effort destroyed with the push of a button. Galaxies was always the butt of jokes from me though, seeing as it was pretty messed up from the ground up. Still, a salute goes out to everyone going down with the ship.
... Although hey, Old Republic. Death and rebirth and all that.

The Blood God's design consultant. My wife is working on a bucket list - things to do before the game kicks the bucket. One item is to get her pilot to ace all nine piloting tracks. Yay for heavy-mass starter ships...
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold. The Old Republic is coming, so don't give up.
I wonder if they could do like a server transfer style thing, but to private servers now that the game is over. Not like they'll be making any money off the game..

The old republic has very little in common with SWG.
A fan project is being made to make a private server with some changes.
Its going very slowly.

...I'll never get a screenshot of my old character :(
The Protomen enhanced my life.I was playing that game during the Pre-Combat Upgrade times... It was a blast, but when I left that game, changes were made, and some fans were not pleased.
Shutdown sequence initiated. As I recall even when the game was first released a lot of people didn't like it. Kind of amazes me that it's managed to stay alive this long, since most MM Os die in even shorter timespans.
I'm surprised the game survived so long after losing a large majority of its playerbase within months after SOE ruined things.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Out of curiosity, what are these changes that everyone hated?
The Combat Upgrade, and the New Game Experience.
Shutdown sequence initiated.I won't know what makes them different from the old combat, I haven't played it.
The difference was that the original game was much more class/skill-specific, and required you to focus strongly on whatever your specialties were and nothing else. I believe that there was more than 20 classes in total. Also, it was INCREDIBLY difficult to become a jedi: it took a year before anybody figured out what was the secret to unlocking that class and it's traits.
The NGE pack decided to remove a lot of the crafting/technical skills, trimmed the total amount of classes down to 9, and focused more on the combat. And what REALLY pissed off a lot of the veteran players was that they made the Jedi a class that can be chosen from the very start, and not some uber-hard to get reward of sorts. A lot of folks quit the game just because of that last particular detail.
I remember I tried this for like 20 minutes; I went Bounty Hunter, and in the first five minutes I was being bailed out of space prison by Han Solo and Chewbacca, who then brought me to a space station where I immediately met Boba Fett who gave me a mission to fly somewhere, and then I got into a spaceship, started to fly, and the game crashed.
It was a bit of an overload of celebrities in the first twenty minutes, to the point that I was like "really, why do you people care about a level 1 dude?" So I wouldn't say my experience was fantastic or anything. It's still kind of sad to see it go, but at least there will be The Old Republic.
The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.Penny Arcade complained about that too.
The reason i never got into the game was... Well because even with all the Star Wars characters shoved down my throat it never felt like Star Wars. Originally the developers seemed to think plenty of players would be perfectly happy dancing in a cantina or sitting in a medbay for hours on end to treat all the players doing the fun stuff. And the crafting, while robust, felt like it was ripped straight from a completely different universe. And there where about a billion different stats. And there where tons f useless skills. And bots where everywhere. And... Ugh.
I played this for a little while, although it was after all the changes had been made. I played an Ithorian crafter/trader type guy, and helped establish a small town on Tatooine with some Rebel Alliance players. Pretty fun game.
This was pretty much my first MMO. I don't really remember much about the game, but I do remember liking it. I was a Bothan Spy that eventually became a Jedi, and I was a part of a pretty cool guild/whatever the guild equivalent is called.
"The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons out as far as they'll go."I was under the impression it had been dead already. Huh. :I
Spooky.
On December 15th, Sony online and Lucasarts are going to shut down Star Wars Galaxies, the MMORPG. I played for a few years and met some nice people on it. My wife is still active in the game, and will miss the camaraderie she found there. If there were any tropers who play it, a pity I never got a chance to meet you in-game, although there are still six months left until it closes down for good.
Anyone know of any MMORPG that has such a detailed crafting system? My wife will need something to do once the servers die.
