You know how in Mad Max, Max Rockansky was The Last Of The Interceptors? Hipsters are The Last Of The Tastemakers, mostly because as pop culture disintegrates around them into commercialised drivel (Your Milage May Vary) they think they are the only ones left who care about True Art, and as a result they come off as very snobbish about it because they think on both opposite poles of logic that if something is mainstream it sucks, but also that they love stuff that is so obscure that only they know how awesome it is while feeling sad nobody else knows about it.
Hell Hasn't Earned My TearsAnd as soon as something becomes popular instantly decrying it for doing so.
Ah right, I know the type. Thanks.
It's a contemporary term to label the fashion, music, pastimes and people we happen to dislike at the moment. Scarf? Hipster. PBR? Hipster! Don't own a TV? HIPSTER! Own a TV? YOU'RE A GODDAMN HIIPPPSTTTTEEEEEEERRRR!!!
But the current favourite definition is a taste snob, as mentioned above.
Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?The apparent disconnect our political classes have with the common man's desires, beliefs and aspirations. That goes for both parties, and goes double for California.
The debasing of our culture that tells young people their only purpose in life is to screw, buy and make money. Not that they're not important, but there's more to life, come on...
The utter inability to percieve classism in society.
WE have TOO much classism. I would not consider myself to be middle-class, but my parents are middle-income. Does that make me middle-class? Economically, and from a sociological point, yes, but to the media and the common man, no.
But classism is rife here. Not as much as it used to be, but still it happens.
One thing that really annoys me is when people who are middle class get all snooty about the working class. I'm not even talking about "people from council estates are chavvy scum", which is already horrendously rude, but I've heard people condemn the working class quite overtly, talk about how "common" they are, stuff like that. It's hypocritical and obnoxious.

Like I say, classism is still rife, but at least it wasn't like it was 50 years ago. Me and you could have an income difference of £200, but the more wealthy between us would look down on the other.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm saying nothing.

Yeah. We're not gonna go into the 1950s and that kinda strife.
Middle class, working class, it's all the same. They both get screwed by the rich.

That Europe is actively destroying itself and people are supporting and celebrating it. Shoot, I spilled the beans about my beliefs too much now. I'm leaving, never to be seen again even though I seldom post here.
Slow down, friendo. What do you mean exactly?
Yeah. Tell us, friend. What's so bad about ye olde European Fed... I mean EU?
To be fair, at this stage that could mean anything from the EU to immigrants to Americanisation. We really have no way of knowing unless you elaborate.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.Exactly. China will collapse, and America will split.
Europe is the world's biggest economy by PPP and other economic facts, and so we'll be awesome.
That's if... there is a Europe.
The 51st state won't be a place that's annexed. It will be the splitting of one state into two. My money's on Missouri (the government cares nothing about the cities and the cities hate the government).
I'll probably be in another country by the time it happens.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/@Maciek: It's because they're those silly liberal socialists, amirite?
That's something else that bothers me in this country. Being a socialist is said to not even exist here. Not true at all! The Red Scare is over, you guys...(I realize the Red Scare mostly dealt with Communism, but many people think that being a socialist of the Democratic persuasion is equivalent to Communism)
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of Time@Buscemi: not to mention the cities are FAR more liberal leaning than the countryside, and therefore I'd imagine theyre rarely happy with policy decisions handed down by the state on education funding or human rights.

The culture of using certain drugs in this country. Now I don't really mind home-grown stuff like marijuana, but seriously, if you're going to use stuff like cocaine, which gets people in other countries killed by warlords supported by those drug revenues, then you can go fuck yourself with a sharp broken broomhandle. Don't do cocaine in my presence (that goes for heroin and other imported drugs too.)
...of course, if we legalised the damn stuff we could legislate where we bought it from. But people who buy coke and heroin and know about the issues in foreign countries are beyond the pale for me.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books. But when the state government is redistricted to the point where the cities get even less power than they do now, all the hell is bound to break loose. The government literally does not care about the cities. They continue to cut the city budgets, cut programs that benefit cities and give money to places that don't really need, all because they'd rather award the counties where they won.
