I seriously believe that SRW V has Multiple Endings, all depending on your choices and even the bonus missions during scenarios. All of which gives you a form of "affection points" that determines what happens afterward.

Let's take Cross Ange for a theoretical example. If you choose to avoid the storyline, it'll end the same way as in the anime. However, if you choose to go through the arcs, you'll gain such affection/influence points from that and bonus objectives. One such objective is saving Misurugi from the Dragons while you're escaping, something that Ange wouldn't do since they nearly executed her. But by doing so, you've changed the ending in a way it'll end more on a higher note, like bonding with Sylvia again or, to a exaggerated stretch, finally taking the throne. Or to be more wonky, an orgy with Ange.

I actually hope for extra/special endings for the CA storyline. My concern is how the rest of the AD world will intervene once Embryo is defeated. I doubt they're just gonna leave Mana/the Founding Nations a mess, especially because some characters from SEED and 00 would want to contain the violence and ensure Mana users and Norma won't hurt each other again. That's where I hope a reunion with Sylvia is a possibility.

I know that the final boss of the game will be coming soon. But can somebody describe the endings you receive in the end? Are they different based on the choices you make and SR Points you collect?

Is the Yamato theme song in the game? That's pretty much the biggest thing on my wishlist for that series Well, that and playable Akira Yamamoto, but fighters rarely get to be to be anything other than support and that doesn't suit her. I hate waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail. And I always miss it and have to pick it up at the post office or something.

Is the Yamato theme song in the game?

Yup. If you bought the Premium Sound Edition. Which is JP only and costs you at least 20 extra bucks. Better have your jumpdrive handy, because Custom Soundtrack is the only way you're getting it in the game.

Speaking of the game, I got in the mail last Friday, and while this isn't exactly my first rodeo with the series, it's still a dream to not just play a SRW game officially in English, but in good English. Very good English in fact. Aside from that though, it's a blast. All of the characters are in character, there's some nice Canon Welding done with various series as per usual, the series' plots are as good as ever, and the OG plot is interesting enough so far. And it's still a fun TBS game to boot.

Also, I just got to the second world, and good thing too. I like the Yamato plot just fine, but it's still nice to take a break from that for a while and cover something else, because that show more or less dominated the game up until now. Here's hoping that with this world having more series to its' name, the plot coverage will be a touch more balanced rather than one series overshadowing everything else.

Frell that, I got the standard edition. Games are expensive enough without going for the crazy-price editions with relatively small extras. That special edition of Fire Emblem Fates with three storylines on one cartridge is one thing, a couple dozen BGM tracks is quite another. if V lets you use custom BGM from your music folder like Z3 does, I can fix the problem pretty easily on my end unless the bitrate's wonky or whatever. I rather like the idea of giving the Purus/Marida "Silent Voice" or "Ten Million Year Galaxy."

I pre-ordered the standard version, and the Yamato's battle theme is a heavily rearranged version of the show's theme. I know this because I hummed "searching for a distant star, heading off to Iscandar" a couple times to it.

The game feels like it has three different translators. It seems like the dialogue, battle quotes, and Library text (most of the game, in other words) was done by a native English speaker who's decent at phrasing things in a natural way, but has a bad habit with minor typos (Amuro: What are you dong here?) and punctuation errors. Then Band-aid gave the game's menus over to someone who is noticeably less skilled - Ignore Size says the complete opposite of what it does, and at least one Ace Bonus calls Valor "Hot Blood". After that, they must have ran out of time, because the song titles were clearly translated by a Japanese intern who didn't know how capitalization works. In short, it's light-years superior to Moon Dwellers, but that's Damning With Faint Praise.

[up] Hmm... after looking at some longer attack videos, looks like you're right. Can't say I'm a big fan of this arrangement, but at least it's not Z-series "Tori no Uta."

I have the Japanese version coming. Dodgy English aside, managing two accounts on a Vita is enough of a pain and DLC is region-locked based on where your account is. I bought... something or other a few years ago. I want to say Jigoku-hen, which didn't get an Asia release and came with a code for the HD remake of the original SRW and that pretty much locked me in. That, and I suspect the SRW titles available as PS1 and PS2 classics aren't available in other regions. It's really a shame they never put Alpha 2 and 3 or OGs out digitally.

I really should take an hour or two and finish SRW 1. Just pile all my upgrades onto two or three units and blitz that final boss. I never realized how much I relied on healers in strategy RPGs until I had to play a game without any.

Dodgy English...

'Dodgy'? 'Dodgy' ? No offense, but have you seen the translation? The occasional hiccup aside, it's brilliant. For the most part, there isn't anything really wrong with it. Yes, they should have gotten a better editor to take care of the odd typo or grammar issue, but other than that, it's excellent. Maybe you should actually take a look at it via Youtube or something before calling it 'dodgy', because it certainly isn't that.

Say, what type of ending is this?

After the final battle, the various groups meetup together in the Yamato's hanger. Conversations include: Kira inviting Shinn to explore the world, Sousuke deciding to go back to high school with Kaname, Ange and co will open up a cafe, and Sylvia comes to find Ange again, earning a Slasher Smile from her. Afterwards, the group all say their thoughts for goodbyes before they part off. Finally, the main original cast of SRW V have one last meetup.

What's different from the other ending?

So this one turned out fine, but a lot of games don't from what I hear. There's no way to know ahead of time if a given title going to be basically ok, if slightly annoying to anyone with grammar nazi tendencies, or something on par with a Chinese bootleg. Maybe I should've phrased as a generic bit of uncertainty hanging over English versions of games from outside the major Anglosphere countries? It's only one factor in why I don't want to expand my PSN accounts and trophy lists to a third region.

[up]Indeed. On both counts. 'What a beautiful Duwang!'

Anyhoo, I've been reading the Getter Robo manga again, and I think I might have found Gendo's grandpappy. Saotome is a Jerkass of such epic proportions that he almost makes Gendo look like a saint, with the only saving graces being that he has no hidden agenda and only truly cares about saving the Earth, and that he does actually give a shit about his kids. (Well, mostly. Still burned his oldest son to a crisp with a fucking flamethrower, without a shred of hesitation. Father of the year, people!) But just the general ways in which he behaves himself and treats everyone like shit takes everything that Gendo represents and amps it Up To Eleven, if that's even possible. And this shining example of a human being was created 20 YEARS before Gendo was so much as a twinkle in Anno's eye. God, no wonder the anime was Lighter and Softer; I don't think Grandpappy Gendo would have even been allowed in anime back then!

That said, the manga's still awesome. All of the main pilots are badasses to the hilt, and it's just plain fun. You can also see just where Gurren Lagann got its inspiration from. It's practically that show's forefather. Hell, even NGE might have taken some inspiration from this. For an early 70's Super Robot manga, it's got a surprisingly dark tone at times, and I've already mentioned Grandpappy Gendo. It almost feels like a deconstruction of the genre in the early parts, though that's probably due more to the Super Robot genre still being something of an Unbuilt Trope at this point. Bottomline, it's awesome and everyone should give it a shot if they've already. It also beats out both Armageddon and the original anime (from what I've seen of the original anime in SRW anyway,) for one reason or another, be it better and more fleshed out characters or a plot that actually makes sense. Seriously, it's a must.

[up]Eh, Armageddon can be helluva entertaining, but what it lacks is an actual comprehensible plot and good characterization outside of the original Getter pilots. Whereas the manga actually succeeds on both counts while still having the same trademark Crazy Awesome action the series is famous for. It's still the gold standard for the franchise for me to this day. But I can see why you might like Armageddon more, plot be damned. (STOOONEEER... SUNSHIIIINE!)

The Getter Robo manga series is amazing, though I have to say that I've never really warmed up to the Dragon/Liger/Poseidon robot from the "G" arc. Something about their design just rubs me the wrong way

What are you thoughts on "Go" and later series, if you've read them? Ishikawa's art developed a lot over the years and they display much less Go Nagai influence.

Hayato has always been my favourite Getter pilot, but he's another stone-cold bastard. He's even willing to send his fiancee in as part of a force defusing booby-trapped nukes by trial and error in "Go". Guess learning from Saotome did wonders for a guy who's introduced tearing faces off deserters.

I'm getting close to the end of 2nd OG, locked in for the secret ending. Is it just me, or is there a bit of Same Face going on with the side characters? Elddy Mitte from MX and Minaki Tomine from Alpha 3 look really similar and put me in mind of Sofia Nate from Alpha Gaiden with dark hair.

[up]Still haven't read Go and the others yet, but I'm planning to. That's why I started rereading the original manga. I'd always wanted to read Go and figured it was long overdue, but also figured that it'd been so long since I read the original, and given how short it was by comparison, that I might as well read that one again first before diving into Go. Once I actually start Go, I'll let you know, because I've heard nothing but great things about it. (The anime on the other hand...)
