With the sale here, I immediately took the chance to buy The Swindle, a heist stealth game set in steampunk London, and I absolutely loved it!

It's got great atmosphere, soundtrack, and intense gameplay. One mistake can easily cost you your crook and their haul, yet the game encourages to take risks since you're under a time limit of 100 days to take on the final mission, and you want to make the most of each day to prepare to take on the big one before time runs out.

I'd go on, but this guy puts it better than I ever could.

I've been having fun with Stellaris myself, though I had to delete my most recent game because I got steamrolled by a rival star-nation.

Finally caved and bought something - the DLC for Civilization V that I didn't already have.

I caved in and bought RPG Maker VX Ace just because it's dirt cheap.

If I buy DLC for a game I already had, how do I install it? It doesn't seem to do it automatically and I can't find an option to do it manually anywhere.

It does it automatically.

Tempted by a few things on the Steam Sale. Notably a game I already own the disc for.

Oh, the temptation. I could roll my chair back, pick up the box, pop the disc in, and install it for free, or buy it for under $5 and not have to go through the hassle of installing it from disc.

One neat advantage would be if you ever had a friend over and wanted to play a multiplayer title and not have them hunt down or buy their own copy. But that's pretty rare these days, so...

I told my girlfriend to buy Tabletop Simulator.

So I can destroy her in chess... [lol]

I also bought the expansion for Renowned Explorers at a whopping 10% discount.

Just bought House of the Dying Sun right now. Gonna download it when I get home tonight, been a long time since I've playing a good space fighter game.

Single player game, so no dice there.

I will admit the other reason I'm considering getting a Steam copy of a game I already own is so it's part of my Steam Library. I can access the message boards and FA Qs for it easily with just a Shift+Tab.

Or is there a way to link a game you already own onto Steam as part of the game? I know you can link games to Steam already, but it doesn't link them to the game profile.

... Oh, I'm about to spend $909 on over 30 Steam items (some of which are actually collections/packs containing several separate games/DLCs). This is going to be the single biggest Steam purchase I've ever done in my whole life!

That beats my single biggest purchase by a longshot. Don't think I've ever dropped more than $200 CDN during one sale.

[up][up][up] I can. I technically work on a $300 monthly balance, with the catch that whatever money that I don't spend in month gets added to the next month's balance. I currently have about $4000 balance since I've only made one purchase in the past 6 months, and have been quite intermittent in Steam purchases over the past year.

Nothing, technically; I'm about to graduate from university. That's purely the allowance I get from my mom for my video game purchases (she works as a medical doctor).

Sorta steam related- Word on the reddits is that there's a lawsuit brewing against Valve for endorsing steam item gambling sites in violation of US online gambling laws. The most popular ones for Counterstrike and Team Fortress stuff are putting up notices that they're shutting down within the next month.

So far, here's my haul from the sale:

  • RWBY: Grimm Eclipse
    • On its own as a beat 'em up, it's fun, though unfortunately not yet complete at the time I bought it (it will be on July 5th, though). I do have to say, Ruby's voice is rather annoyingly high-pitched - is that how she sound like in the actual show?
  • The Legend of Korra
    • Exactly what it should be: the experience of tearing through cities and the Spirit World as a one-woman army with mighty elemental powers that, infuriatingly, you have to unlock one-by-one at first. I especially love how Korra's stances and attacks contain some references to other well-known fighting game techniques such as the Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku and the Kamehameha.
  • Enter the Gungeon
    • Glorious. Magnificently glorious. It's like an explosively awesome combination of The Binding of Isaac and Touhou-on-foot. Fittingly enough for the genre, it's Nintendo Hard. However, there are some features that I love such as teleporting via the minimap, rewards for flawless runs (free health up upon killing the boss? Hell yeah!), and of course, the essential dodge roll. A must have for roguelike fans, I say.
  • Riff Racer
    • This feels like a mashup between Trackmania and Audiosurf. Simple controls make it easy to pick up and the tracks it made from the music fed into it are fun to ride, but sometimes it's a bit too easy to get a high score even on fast-paced, "hard" tunes like Misirlou, Sabre Dance, and Live and Learn. Also, its genre detection algorithm (yes, it doesn't draw directly from the song's metadata) is weird, sometimes determining moderate-tempo rock songs to be "dance" and actual dance (e.g. EDM) songs as "pop" or "urban".
  • Trine 2
    • First impression: it's definitely made with lots and lots of Scenery Porn in mind. It's the only game I haven't logged much time into, so I've yet to form a solid opinion on it.

I guess I'll post my impressions too because I really want to shamelessly plug Concrete Jungle.

  • Hyper Light Drifter
    • Really pretty pixel art, great wordless world-building. More of a mixed bag gameplay-wise to me. I feel like there's too much happening at once during combat. Dodging one attack tends to just lead to getting hit by another without any way to avoid it. Chain-dashing also feels wonky to me. The collectibles are very cleverly hidden, though.
  • You Must Build a Boat
    • Sequel to TenMillion. If you played that you should know what to expect: an addictive combination match 3 puzzler/dungeon crawler. Adds some fun new bells and whistles like monster collecting. The hub (the titular boat) is terrible, though. Every time your boat grows in size, the merchants who sell you upgrades change locations.
  • Concrete Jungle
    • A real hidden gem and my favorite of the games I've played from this sale. The name makes it sound like a generic city builder, but it's more like a deck building game/tile-placing puzzler. You have to put down buildings (represented by cards) strategically to give residential areas high property values. Full of depth and customization. Throughout each game, you'll be adding new cards to your deck, both through the shop and through upgrading your character's "Skills". Several different playable characters, each with their own specialized Skills. Features a campaign mode, endless mode, local multiplayer... Has some nice art and music too. Dialogue is a bit hit-or-miss, but the voice acting is surprisingly good.
  • Snakebird
    • A cute and surprisingly difficult puzzle game. Help each snakebird to the goal either by eating all the fruit (which will cause it to grow, similarly to the classic Snake), or by strategically stacking them.
