I like the idea upthread of 'some cool superpower', but given that it's the Devil, it should have at least some component of Blessed with Suck along with. (Maybe have the guardianship have some Cursed with Awesome? It would be amusing, and symbolically appropriate depending on your portrayal of Satan, if the difficult, sacrificing keeping-reality-together task gave the most actual benefits, while the Devil's reward is more troublesome.) In the usual (Christian) portrayal of the Devil, he wants to tempt mortals into sin, and some superpower along with a constant, niggling voice suggesting that you use it for evil might work. (A Compelling Voice would be good for that, I think.)
Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)"If you do the devil a favor... he'll want your soul to go with it"?
Does he get the power at the end of the story, the middle, or the beginning? Also, Satan isn't evil. He wants us to become gods. =D (my personal convictions however, your milage may vary)

eRR, how do you get the link to the trope to show up as different words than the name of the trope?

as of the 2nd of Nov. has 6 weeks for a broken collar bone to heal and types 1 handed and slowly[[ {{ Satan Is Good}} Words You Want ]]
Anyway, what if Satan gives him a talent? Like, he always wanted to be a rock star but he was tone deaf - now he's a musical prodigy.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done. The devil always lies, including to himself. Your gift in exchange would be eternal damnation (hey, free shelter! and heating!) You didn't make a deal with him, he tricked you into it. You didn't do him a favor, he convinced you to be a chambermaiden, which is probably one of the more glorified roles in the House of Din. I would think Satan would like a shoulder to cry on, someone to lend an ear, occaisionally a hug and a smile from his angellic sisters that can't do the Underworld thing. Maybe the light beings / angellics are lucky enough to see him for a more gentle creature but know better to get caught up in his chambers. Plus Satan can't stand the blinding light in his dark lair. He prefers low lighting. However Satan is a very magnanimus leader. He enjoys and revels in showboating his prideful sarcasm, and is mostly dealing souls because it amuses him, and he can create a world where every inhabitant is a kind host, rather than thinking they are slaves. The people bound to hell fear they would not know any way out of the dark, and are chained and bound by their own illusions. Sorry no creative twists here. Hope this is friendly enough.
CHAOS defines Us, Order refines us, but Balance entwines us.I think I decided on giving the kid normal (classic) "witch" powers or whatnot, which includes a familiar and a roof over his head — and because he was a minor his "family" kept getting resurrected and coming back wronger and wronger. However, he hasn't bothered figuring out the powers.
Every time I see this title I think of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie..."
Now that would be a fun thing to riff on.
