Well, logically if it has at least three examples it's okay to be its own trope. We can leave Youkai as the supertrope and for "other" examples.
For the better known youkai such as the tanuki or oni that makes sense enough. I think anything below about, say, tengu on that list will probably be getting a little obscure for an English speaking wiki. That's basically the last one on the list that I feel really has enough to support its own page.
For that matter, for the ones that already have their own pages, we should probably go ahead and move any examples over to those pages.
Probably a good idea to make a list of "Youkai common enough to have their own pages" near the top, then the descriptions of the lesser-known ones below them.
Pretty much this. The general page must stay because some youkai don't appear often outside of the mythology
"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - BarkeyLooking at the page only "Tsuchinoko" and "Rokurokubi and Nukekubi" dont have enough examples for a page of their own.
It would be nice to get the rest to their own pages and allow pictures and expanded description. And allow comparisons with a Japanese Vampire (Anime & Manga) which is used as a form of Youkai (it even contains the character Oni), yuurei and Onryo (What we call Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Agree with the split. I've already YKKTW'd a split for Tanuki.
Also agreed with a split.
I didn't write any of that.I cleaned up the split, making sure the examples weren't lost.
And realized that, since we already have pages for Kitsune and Kappa, no examples need to be listed on this page, but on the page of the trope.
God, how did I miss that for so long?
Reviewing movies is a lot like Paleontology: The Evidence is there...but no one seems to agree upon it.i think we should give the Oni its own page, manly due to Red Oni, Blue Oni
It doesn't really have enough examples to merit a split.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickMaybe a Useful Notes on Japanese monsters and their characteristics? We could make it a lot larger and more in depth than anything we could put on a single trope page.
Fight smart, not fair. But the page is on how they're portrayed in media and examples of them being portrayed in media. That's not really useful notes.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickTrue, but if people are talking about the historicalness and what not, which is generally what clutters up those pages, they can do it over in that page.
Fight smart, not fair. Not currently an issue. Each of the Youkai only have a short paragraph description.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOkay then, suggestion tabled.
Fight smart, not fair. So, if the decision is to leave it alone, can we close this thread?
Yeah, the page is actually quite well organized, and while we probably could justify separate pages for each type, right now there doesn't seem to be a pressing need to do so.
Edit: Never mind.

It looks like we can call this thread done and lock it. Any objections?
I didn't write any of that.No. The ones that needed to be split off like Kitsune and Tanuki already have been. If the other ones need to be split off later that can be done then.
The Youkai has a number of varied creatures, and a couple already have their own pages, Kappa and Kitsune. So I think we could split off more, like Kasa Obake, but I want to make sure any other split is okay first.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
