Needs a Better Name: One Second Later

I can get what this Trope is about from reading the description, and I can see how the name fits in with that, but the title by itself is just kind of puzzling. In a nutshell, it is when a character (and the audience) discover or realize something just too late to do anything about it. I think a better name is in order.

Best I can think of right off the top of my head is "Discovered Too Late" or "Realized Too Late" or something like that.

Thoughts?

But it's specifically about information given to the audience. Your suggestions make it sound like a character discovery is emphasized.

Alright, I made a single proposition rename crowner here.

One Second Later found in: 10 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 4 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

Given that the trope has not been used that much, I think there are less obstacles to renaming it. If anything, a clearer name might help it pick up more examples. I agree that having something related to being late in the title would be a good idea, in order to clarify the trope a bit.

That being said, I think the current name is not that bad, but I do not think it fits that well either.

If nothing else, One Second Late would be a better name.

The phrase Too Little Too Late comes to mind, although it may not be strictly related.

I don't like One Second Late, because that sounds like a character breaking in right after their lover has been shot.

Five Second Foreshadowing works well. Another option is Instant Relevance

There is now an alternative titles crowner here.

Feel free to add names as you wish.

Five-Second Foreshadowing is my favorite so far, but the "five second" part still doesn't seem very descriptive. How about Last Second Foreshadowing?

That it does since those tend to show up at the very last second of the film and then roll credits.

Interesting point. Perhaps Sequel Hook should be considered a related trope in any case? There are noticeable points of similarity. Maybe a second cousin? :)

"A similar surprise reveal, appearing at the end of a work and not followed by a revelation, may well be a Sequel Hook."

Nope, not really related save in the sketchiest of terms. Comparing the two would just end up confusing people.

So...it's been over a month since we agreed to rename this trope. Is anybody going to actually rename it? I'd do it myself, but I don't know how

Take a stab at it. It's the best way to learn.

Deboss wrote a detailed description of how to move a page (which is what a rename is) here. If you run into something you find confusing or that you can't figure out, sing out.
