OK, so Guess That Trope! I'll give you a hint, it has nothing to do with Harry Potter.

I'm not familiar with the trope namer, but it seems like even if you were it'd be an obscure title.

36 wicks, 23 inbounds. Basically the trope is "Only the purest may do this thing," which seems like it should be a fairly common trope. Comparing with a similar trope: Virgin Power has 252 wicks and 383 inbounds. Yeah, I'd say this is definitely underperforming. And it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to blame the name, given that "Nimbus" (a type of cloud?) is not a word I would expect to be associated with Incorruptible Pure Pureness. I would support a rename.

I don't consider Guess That Trope a good heuristic (see my sig), but let's try.

...

What the heck... what should I assume the trope is about in the first place?

...

Yess... I still got it. Wasn't too hard. There aren't many things that are called for nimbus outside of science, which I quickly disregarded for a quick trope naming, and then I reminded me about Goku's cloud thing that somehow only he had the privilege to ride. But it's still a pretty bad name, since the privilege is not for or about the nimbus in the first place, and it is even way more specific that a Character Named Trope.

Suggesting a rename to, say, Pureness Powered Privilege.

[up] Or just Pureness Privilege. Or Only the Pure of Heart.

I like Only the Pure of Heart.

Guess That Trope isn't a reason to change on its own, it's just a good yardstick of how intuitive the name is. I only put this trope up for change because I remember having to look up what it meant a few weeks ago, and managed to forget it since then. Knowing what the trope means on seeing the name for the first time is a big ask, but the really good names are the ones that make you go "ohhhhh..."

I hate Guess That Trope.

Anyway, Work dependent and seemingly incoherent if you guess the wrong work.

Only the Pure of Heart sounds like it's more about the person, than the thing that their purity allows only them to do.

Since the trope covers all sorts of things that Purity can get a character how about Purity Perks or Purity Priveleges?

Guess That Trope is actually a really bad indicator and often gives misleading results. It's one way of articulating your personal opinion, but as far as evidence, it holds about the same weight as saying "This title really bugs me!"

No, it's not always bad; it's an indicator, like many of the other things we use. to determine whether a trope name is broken or not.

However, "whether Guess That Trope works or not" is not the topic of this thread.

Well, it does really bug me... not that that's a valid argument.

The Power Of Purity or Purity Power? One problem is that the word "purity" on it's own makes you think of virginity, whereas describing someone as Pure Of Heart is much clearer.

That's why I suggested Pureness as a word. It has the same semantics as far as I know, unless the majority of our readers are into cooking recipes or something about chemistry.

Guess That Trope is pretty lame, yeah. It's mostly an initial indicator to validate complaints; it has pretty much no usable weight afterwards.

IMO this should be a supertrope to Virgin Power. I like Purity Power, and while purity might give the idea of virginity, I'd say that as a word it doesn't -only- conjure up 'virginity' as a meaning. The whole point of this one is 'being pure nets you special powers', Purity Power even has that alliterative stuff you spazzes love to shoehorn into trope names. :P

Want to rename a trope? Step one: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Pureness also conserves the AAA. But hey, if you guys want Purity, I'm OK with that, so long as we find a way to de-shoehorn the virginity perception from them (perhaps renaming the actual virginity tropes, if any, to use Virginity instead of Purity).

I got Nimbus Privileges right away, actually. But maybe that's because I encountered it in context.

Actually, I got it mostly as well, although not quite how the Trope Namer meant. I'm used to seeing "nimbus" used as a synonym for "aura," usually in a good-aligned or holy context. Thus, I imagined someone who had special benefits due to being a decent human being of some variety.

Okay, so the specific idea I had in mind was along the lines of getting a bonus to saves and the like when you're next to an allied Paladin using a Holy Avenger in some versions of Dungeons And Dragons - but still, close enough that the trope wasn't completely off.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

I have no idea what this thing is based on the name alone.

While it references a well known series, I don't think the item itself was important for the part of the show people actually remember. And I only vaguely remember the reason he could use the thing. So yeah, Purity Privileges is much better.

Yeah, I was definitely expecting something related to Harry being allowed a broom as a first year. I like Purity Power, but we could always have Pureness Power as a redirect.

I like Only the Pure of Heart because it sounds like the sort of thing that would be emblazoned on a magic sword or written in an ancient riddle or prophecy detailing who can wield this or pass through that. Complete opposite perspective of Madge I guess. It doesn't like it's talking about a person at all because it's a condition on a group, how can that be a single person? And y'know, it's only one step from "Only the rightful king may pull the sword from this stone".

Also, there's nothing about the nature of the thing making the requirement in the trope. It could be repelling demonic possesion, it could be passing through a doorway, holding a sword, Light Side Force Powers etc.

I won guess that trope. But I also read Dragonball so it really doesn't count.

I say we rename it Only the Pure of Heart.

I made a single proposition rename crowner here since I think we should get through that before alternative titles.

I basically have the same issue with the name that Arha mentioned (i.e. references something about an item in a well-known series that is not itself often remembered).
