First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if concerns about potential racism were enough on their own to make sure a cover-up happened, especially back in 2005.
I was talking about Doncaster Council...

Keep Rolling OnIt's the South Yorkshire police. A policy being racist hasn't stopped them very often before.

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Zara apologizes for their children's Holocaust-looking shirt.
They said it was inspired by the old west sheriff badge. I may be inclined to believe them but previously they have gotten in trouble for having swastika's on their fabrics.
Now I study religion. That's my thing. I know all about Nazi appropriation. There are ways around this and they didn't take it.
First, most Jains, Hindus, and Buddhists who still wish to use the gammadion cross prefer the version here to prevent confusion with the Nazi's bastardization. So it doesn't make sense for the fabric to have one in the first place. It isn't even sun colored, which that is what the symbol represents, a sun.
Apparently they brag about their ability to have a design take just two weeks to get from paper to stores when the industry average is six months, probably to check for things like this and make sure this is a worthy investment. Zara has also been accused of sweatshop labor, using toxic substances, and extensive employee abuse, though let's be real, very few retailers have.
This is just troubling because looking at the shirt I just want to shake them and ask, "Seriously?"
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurI keep seeing a design that seems to use the Reichsadler and don't recall anyone complaining about that. Can't remember the brand name. Then there's John Galliano. Maybe the fashion industry is actually ODESSA

Schild und Schwert der ParteiThey're not as well known, but people did raise a fuss.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurI'm almost as irritated that I misidentified the Parteiadler as the Reichsadler than I am by the symbolism, but yes, I don't like that one bit.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiApparently both terms are fine.

Not quite: strictly speaking an eagle looking to its right is the Reichsadler whilst one looking to its left was the Parteiadler.

So I found this satirical video about Tumblr and its concept of cultural appropriation
Oh hey, Internet Aristocrat. No offense, but he's kind of a douche.
Not sure if "satirical" is the right word for that. Maybe "sarcastic" or "hateful" is better.
Internet Aristocrat is most definitely 100% sincere about what he says. There's absolutely nothing "satirical" about him.
While I do admire the effort to call out some of the more extreme segments of social justice, even a cursory examination of Internet Aristocrat's opinions will reveal that he probably would have been just as prejudiced regardless.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Not sure if political handout/ass-covering, but he certainly sounds qualified for the job. Then again, he'd have to work pretty hard to do worse than his predecessor.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswYeah, I have found that when someone devotes a fair amount of effort to calling out 'social justice warriors', it's usually only a matter of time before you catch them saying something really bigoted. Transphobia is the most common one, but homophobia, sexism, and racism are all still quite likely.
What's precedent ever done for us?59 years ago today Emmett Till was murdered.
Aprilla and I have talked about how things have improved in so many ways since then. It is scary to think just one generation ago, he would have been killed and I could have been at least beaten if not killed for talking to each other. Now we can walk down the street together in our town and are pretty safe.
Yet, because this is still just a generation ago, there is a lot of work that has yet to be done and there are still cities both of us agree never to enter, alone or together, because the chance of violence towards us in some form or another is very high.
I hope that in another generation, when I am old, this will seem archaic and barbaric that there was ever a time when a black man couldn't wink at a white girl.
Here's hoping and working for it. Especially in light of the massive amount of work we still have to accomplish.

As I posted in the thread, the report itself seems to suggest that worries about racism were more of an excuse for more disturbing reasons for covering the situation up (like police collusion with abusers).
