First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Schild und Schwert der ParteiActions speak louder than words.
From the comments:
"If you have to proclaim that you are not a racist organization, you have already lost."
No, really, what. The KKK is recruiting people of less-than-WASP backgrounds?!? If that's not one of the signs of the Apocalypse, it should be.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswBoth legally recognized headquarters of the KKK, both the traditional branch and the KKK ltd. are here in Arkansas.
They have "loosened" their recruitment to basically Nazi standards. If you have only 1/16th or less of a minority in your blood, you can be accepted.
They're desperate for recruits because they're dying fast. Not fast enough, but relatively compared to other groups such as the White Revolution or the Aryan Brotherhood.
The White Revolution gets most of their support from international and national networking. The Aryan Brotherhood garners most of their support from the prison industrial complex here in America and other international divisions.

This was linked to on Twitter by one of my friends and thought I'd post it because I was thinking of this the other day of how people always try to prove (sometimes accurately sometimes not) that the victim was an unsavory person and it really disturbs me, because the undertone is "he needed killing" or at best that their death wasn't a tragedy.
And as the article notes, because the mothers of these victims are aware of that, they always (sometimes accurately sometimes not) strive to present their children in the best possible light because otherwise people (not all people, but as a generalization) won't care about their deaths.

Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiIt's true though. When the whole Trayvon Martin thing happened you had a bunch of people claiming that Trayvon was a thug because he'd been suspended for having weed one time. Espeically with black youth, there's this idea that we don't send our kids to college or are inherently anti-intellectual or something so their parents want to make sure people know that's not the case.
Police in Ferguson Fire Tear Gas on Protesters Standing in Their Own Backyard
"You go home! You go home!" they chanted. As the police come closer, they all put their hands up.
Once again, the police officer with the megaphone ordered the protesters to go home.
"We're in our yard!" they responded.
At one point West walked to his fence with his hands high up in the air.
"This my property! This my property!" he shouted, prompting police to fire a tear gas canister directly at his face. He moved at the last second.
"This my shit!" West screamed irately after narrowly avoiding the gas canister. Eventually a friend grabbed him and pulled him back to calm him down.
"This is my backyard! This is my shit!" West continued screaming into the camera. He turned to the police: "Y'all go the fuck home!"
"This is our home. This is our residence," West's brother added. "Why do you think people say 'fuck the police?' Because of that shit."
Flora Busby, West's mother, a soft-spoken woman in her 60s, came into the backyard to see if her sons were alright.
"We in our backyard!" she said. "Why you gotta shoot us?"
...
"They ain't gotta be throwing tear gas in my backyard," added Busby. "This is my property. We were just standing back there, my son was standing back there, and I go to see about him and they threw it."
She continued: "I'm angry about that. They shouldn't be doing that. And they didn't need to kill the poor little boy."
I almost got into a fistfight with someone who had that mentality, that because he smoked some pot, posed wearing a grill for a picture, etc. he was a hoodlum looking for trouble instead of a teenager.

"That wizard came from the moon!"I can't link to it because I am at work, but I recently found a tumblr called iftheygunnedmedown.
It is horrible, but true. People have posted side by side pictures of themselves with the idea that which picture would the media use if they were gunned down.
On one side, you see smokers, people flipping of cameras, or dressing "urban" for lack of a better word. Then on the other you see them in suits, graduation gowns, kissing their children, or even military uniforms.
Mostly it is black individuals, but there are also Latinos and a few whites.
I am grateful for this because most people are visual people and hopefully this will stick with them not just as police brutality is an issue, but just how others perceive people that aren't of their ethnic, cultural, or economic standing.
It's kinda like this in spirit.

"That wizard came from the moon!"That's mainly because older, professional white men are the only ones who can afford that.
If a minority wants a gun, they can go for a brown bag special in most any major city.

What's precedent ever done for us?The whole Ferguson situation is terrible.
People are mirrors. If you smile, a smile will be reflected.Ferguson police have been preventing journalist from entering the city, even going so far as to detain a few of them.
They've also started prohibiting people for organizing after dark, leading to this piece of breathtaking absurdity.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!Reports: Gov. Nixon to remove St. Louis County police from Ferguson
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Thank fucking god. Hopefully someone is going to get fired over this. The police have practically made Ferguson into a war zone.
In the meantime, there's a Bail and Legal Fund set up that you can donate to to help those who have been arrested.
Nixon? Any relation to the former President?
Keep Rolling OnThe one that had to resign forty years ago and died twenty years ago? And probably very indirectly is responsible for this by implementing The Southern Strategy Nope, this one is sane.
Oh no, the ruthlessness and paranoia he was at definitely was not sane.

Nixon was plenty sane... he was also totally ruthless and little too paranoid.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Seconded. President Nixon was a little over the line that marks the border between delusionally paranoid and "common sense for a politician" — said "common sense" being pretty delusionally paranoid by normal standards as it is.

Bill O’Reilly Surprised Some Ferguson African Americans Protected Property From Looters
...
"One of the stories I think that is important to take away from this is that yes, there were small, black-owned businesses just getting out, just starting – you know, that difficult 5, 6, 7, 8-month period that is now totally destroyed.
"There’s also stories developing here where there was a car dealer, a transmission place, Zisser, where the community went to the store and took keys of the cars that were there and took a lot of the tires off the wall, took them home and protected them from the looters and then the following morning, this morning, came back and brought the keys and the tires back to the place for safekeeping."
Milhaven didn't directly say that the rescuers were black but it was certainly implied.
“Oh, good!” O’Reilly exclaimed. “I thought you were going to say the exact opposite and I’m very glad to hear that some in the
community were as appalled as I think most Americans are, that you don’t take the shooting death of a young man and break the law. You don’t do that. Again, we have a system in place.”
But you’re not off the O’Reilly Factor hook yet, African Americans. Later on Fox, there was a teaser for tomorrow night’s show. This was the first item in it:
Will black America speak out against the looting in St. Louis? We’ll have a special report on that.
Early in this discussion, local Fox reporter George Sells told O’Reilly that Michael Brown's family had called for peace and calm as had the local NAACP.
I know, Bill'O Baggins, but I couldn't find the source I wanted that talked about the rioters and looters being outsiders looking for trouble and looking to take advantage of the situation.
