Anyone ever worry about plagarism?

Though unlikely I have this fear of someone hijacking chunks of what I've posted on the Internet and actually putting it on paper.

Another way to look at is that here you have written proof that it was your idea.

Sometimes. The great thing, though, is that if I've mentioned it indirectly online, I have the dates to back me up!

All right, that was sort of a joke, but really, I just make sure that most of my ideas are kept to myself or given to controlled groups.

Two words: Stamp patent. Print off a copy of your work, and mail it back to yourself. You'll have a sealed document with a date on it.

I worry about it all the time, considering I was once married and worked on a considerable number of stories with my now ex-wife. Mostly I'm worried about her tracking me down and suing me if I ever get published...considering that, in the words of a mutual friend, I was "the Jimi Hendrix of that partnership...she was just 'The Experience'."

People only think their own work is good enough to plagiarize. They won't be trying to steal mine.

I'd be honored if anyone took my ideas and put them to uses I couldn't think of. And as History Maker observed, if they copied straight up, wherever they copied it from will provide evidence against them.

The thing I am worried about most upon becoming an occasional poster here is being accused of hijacking others' ideas. So far I've seen no less than three people comfortably writing about characters with powers I have dreamt up before, thinking they were pretty damn unique at the time ._.

I'm more worried about accidentally ripping off someone else.

nope. Im far more worried that I ripped someone else off. Would undermine my own belief in my abilities and creativity

Nah. Nobody cares enough about my works to do it. Besides, all we post here is premises. You may think your story is good, but you have a million details about it inside your head. Everyone else sees only the basics of it and thinks "But my story is so much more deep and interesting and awesome!".

Nobody in this forum will ever be copied. There's just nothing worth copying.

Kinda, yeah. But that's mostly because I want to try posting chapters serially and make it look professional, which would entail making it look all spiffy while also making it easy to steal.

So it is either accidental plagiarism or someone actually selling my halfbaked work.

For the former, it might be like dealing with a patent troll. The latter is like dealing with the stigma of being a patent troll.

I used to have this really terrible car. About fifteen years old, scratched and dented, bits falling off it — a complete pile of junk. The power steering was broken and sometimes it didn't start.

Usually I didn't bother locking it, because I thought, who the hell would bother stealing this car? Of all the many and various cars in this parking lot, who'd look at mine and go "oh yeah, that's the one I want"? And anyway, if someone did steal it, the joke would be on them when the car broke down a few yards down the road.

That's kind of how I feel about the possibility of plagiarism.

you'd be suprized. my broken and beaten bike was stolen. the breaks were pretty much shot, and the gears were broken. I hope they were hit by a car not being able to stop lol.

I never worry about plagiarism, because I've never let anyone see my work and I probably never will.
