So yeah, It's the Same, Now It Sucks!. Which wouldn't be a problem, Airplane 2 was a lot like Airplane, but it totally gave away most of the plot. Also, Alan Took a Level in Jerkass, which was unfortunate.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

When the first film came out, something about the movie just made it feel as if it was something from the '80s. Now that this sequel is titled "The Hangover: Part II", I see that it must have been intentional.

I'm going to see it tomorrow. I'm hoping that it's good, but I have a feeling it's going to be bad...

Different writers. I got to the bit where it said "based on characters by..." in the opening credits and thought to myself "They changed writers? Oh, bum."

The first film was cool because it was about these guys unravelling bit of their hazy night out. It felt like a hangover. This one is crashing your car into a pig carcass.

The first film went through a bunch of rewrites (the credited writers are better known for bad romantic comedies such as Four Christmases and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) and the script doctors (Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong) were ones who came up with much of the humor. They were also the co-writers of the sequel while the original writers were not retained (which probably explains how bad it could have been without the script doctors).

Meanwhile, the credited writers of the original's new film (The Change-Up) looks like a bad mishmash of toilet humor and philandering with a Freaky Friday premise tacked in.

Well, they managed to lose the ball on this one.

I thought it was enjoyable for the most part. Aside from being It's the Same, Now It Sucks!, I think the worst thing about the movie was how they made Alan more of a jerkass.

I also find it in bad taste that they used shemales for shock value.

Okay, it's official. One of the ten shittiest sequels EVER.

I'm also with the above troper. Banging a shemale might be funny to some. I just found out it gross.

[up][up] Yes that shit was disgusting and I just had to stick around for the credits.

[up] I'm proud to say that I didn't think she was attractive

[up][up][up]/[up] I disliked it because it was degrading to shemales, but you two are sounding awfully homophobic.

I am as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours, sir. And my opinion happens to be that a straight man getting drugged and then banging (really getting banged by) a shemale isn't funny; it's Nightmare Fuel; from concentrate.

Getting drugged and finding out that he banged an underage hooker would've gotten about the same reaction.

I didn't find it funny either, but when you put it that way it is kind of frightening.

[up]Let be clear. Personally, I do not find those types of sexual relationships okay. That is not the same as me saying that people who do should be shot, or harassed, or denied employment, or any other kind of childish backlash. We're all adults, and I don't judge what turns somebody on.

And with that...I could have stomached a context in which it was consensual. If Stu's proclivities had already been established as running in that direction, well, okay.

But unlike Hangover I, he wound up finding out he did the do with someone he clearly WOULD NEVER EVER have if not for Alan outdoing himself in being a total asshole.

I was in a packed theater and while many people laughed out loud at that scene, it wasn't "this is funny" laughing, it was that kind of "somebody just said some racist shit" and the only way to politely react is to laugh it off.

But I can tell you this, following that scene, the movie was dead on arrival after that.

What exactly is the photo still that mocks the Vietnam war during the end credits that Roger Ebert was disgusted by?

Don't worry about it, dude; at a quick glance it could seem that way. Like I said, I don't agree with the homosexual/transgender lifestyle. But as a rational American, I try to remember it's not my place to judge.

Now, getting back to what a piece of shit Hangover Part II is....

I think what's pissing people off about this movie, is that it comes off like a Take That! to the audience. It's almost like Todd Phillips knew he was making a shit movie, so the studio decided to simply let the goodwill from the first movie get them a pile of cash before anyone was the wiser. I don't mind a lacking sequel that at least makes an attempt (Matrix Revolutions, Major League II, etc.). But don't take my money AND make an ass out of me. That's what Todd Phillips and the producers did.

And Hollywood wonders why overall revenue from movies keeps decreasing.

As proof that the movie industry is twisted, The Hangover: Part II beat Kung Fu Panda 2, a decidedly better movie, in the box office on both of their opening weekends, which some claim to be a result of the higher ticket prices for 3D.

[up] It would make my day if the following weekeng The Shitover Part II tanks 90%, but KP 2 retains a lot of box office and pounds the crap out of it.

I kinda saw a What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic? moment with Alan's clothes as the Wolf Pack left the airport in the first couple scenes of Part II: His clothes-both pants and shirt were polished white, to the point they almost looked like they were made out of ivory and he was smoking a wood pipe-confidently-almost like a successful big game hunter out to take down his next prize. Which, of course, was flipped on top of its head as soon as they got on that beach.

So the critics are ravaging it while it dominates the box office. It's an unfamiliar sensation, being on the critic's side for this.

Personally i'm glad it was succesful, it proves that you don't need the MPAA to force a PG-13 rating to be succesful, i'm tired of films getting neutered down for no reason. As for the film itself, well I might've liked it a tiny bit more then the first one, I can understand why you guys wouldn't be too fond of the whole Stu-having-sex-with-a-shemale thing, personally I didn't mind it at all, i'm not the least bit ashamed to admit that shemales are a huge source of Fetish Fuel for me, so I thought she was pretty attractive. Anyways i'll admit, I was pretty skeptical about this sequel myself, but it did it's job well, so i'm not complaining.

I didn't think it was that bad, it was still funny. I don't see how it can seen as horrible. But i can see it being a very weak sequel

I am however, shocked it made so much money. I didn't see any Ads for it

Saw it last night with my brother who was a big fan of the first Hangover and...it was ok.

It definitely felt rote and by the numbers:

  • Movie starts In Media Res
  • Stu is having troubles with his relationship
  • Alan is tagging along
  • They have a wild night thanks to Alan
  • They make a small friend that Alan becomes attached too
  • Phil is taken to hospital
  • Stu has something done to himself and goes after prostitutes
  • Alan demonstrates how awesome he is at something
  • They try to find the straight-laced character and end up having to make an exchange
  • Stu figures it out the same way Jessica Fletcher would and then manages to re-instate his manhood
and hey Mike Tyson is back, because he was in the first one.

There was no real originality and the constant references to the first film just made it all the more obvious.

There was nothing new to offer here. Yeah the change of scenery was ok but it seemed purely cosmetic to me. I was kinda taken aback by how different Alan seemed prior to the night out. Yeah he was a bit of a Cloud Cuckoo Lander and you could kinda understand why he orchestrated the events of the first movie, but here he seemed mean and, as insulting as it might sound, kinda retarded. Seriously I was watching of the scene in his room and thinking about the guy who made Sonichu.

Now as for the Shemale scene. I wasn't offended by it and I could see the humour they were trying to put in, but I thought the joke was executed a bit crudely and lasted a little too long. Ruined the flow of the movie and just felt like they were saying "Transexuals Ewww!". I was laughing, but awkwardly.

It's not as good as the first movie and its completely unnecessary, but there are worst ways to spend your money. Like going to the Change-Up. Seriously, can we give up on the freak friday thing! It's one of the most annoying episodes on kid shows and were making a movie out of it?!

Hollywood has no soul.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.
