That sounds even harder. -_-

I mean I got through it, don't quite remember how. I think I tranq'd her, neutralized the pursuers, and woke her up each time.

The jungle with Eva was THE most frustrating part of the original Snake Eater, you are not wrong, but fortunately it got a lot easier on the re-releases when you're able to, you know, see what's in front of you.

I have never attempted any kind of "no escape" run. Nor have I attempted a pacifist run. Wait. I might've tried that in Guns of the Patriots.

You mean "no alert"?

It's not that hard, you just need patience.

Unless you are going for a Big Boss rank, then you need patience AND a plan.

Derp, yeah, no alert. Never tried one of those.

I think I came close on MGS 1 and Sons of Liberty, though.

Also, unless you have the patience of a saint, a bulletproof plan, the entire guard layout in your head, the skill to defeat every boss non-lethally without taking a hit and the stamina for THE most brutal button mash ever, don't ever try to Big Boss rank MGS 2.

The requisites for the rank are INSANE.

I wouldn't even bother trying to go for ranks, really.

I still can't play SOL without sacrificing my no kill/alert/both run at the sniper section, even on easy.

Ya know, looking at just the essentials of MGS 2 - guy with horrible past, refusing to accept that past and living in a fantasy world before being tortured by circumstances to remember who and what he was/is - I realize Hideo Kojima really IS the best person to write a SH game. Ha already made one more or less, but with science fiction taking the role of supernatural powers.

MGS 2 is about as freaky as most of the Sh games as well.

That and MGS 2 is still the greatest example about a "game about games" and the Playing The Player trope.

Then again, that's not a compliment.

From MGS 2, Raiden. Through Raiden, MGRR. From MGRR, Rules of Nature.

Therefore, MGS 2 is the source of all that is good in the world.

Rules of Nature.

Hmm.

Hmm.

-

Rising Revengeance could've easily been about Gray Fox, or Bladewolf, or Sam. Raiden was just being Rescued from the Scrappy Heap methinks.

And that said, I don't think his characterization in MGS 2 was crucial, or even anywhere near "cyborg ninja", or what he became in Revengeance (I'd even say Revengeance sort of spits upon his character development in Sons of Liberty and Guns of Patriots - making him more entertaining, sure, but all that inner peace went right out the window for the sake of drama), nor do I see the thematic point of it beyond "Hideo wanted Raiden to be a badass", thus I wouldn't really consider MGS 2 a necessary step for an actiony, Cyborg Ninja game with an evil 'not-to-be-fucked-with' senator as the main antagonist.

And come on. Sam as the protagonist of Revengeance? A fusion of physical traits from Solid Snake (facial appearance), Raiden (sword), and the Cyborg Ninja. 'Dat shit would sell.

Meh, Revengeance is a fun game but I don't consider it in my MGS fanon. Like MGS 4, I think it completely misses the point of Raiden's character. I certainly don't like "my psychopathic tendencies from my PTSD give me a powerup."

MGS 4 and Revengeance both reek of "Trying Too Hard" but Rising at least succeeded more than 4 did.

But, in my head, Raiden met up with Rose at the end of Sons of Liberty and the two went on to live happily ever after. Just like Ripley and Newt.

To me everything about Rising is a different timeline that branched off from after MGS 4. In another he reincarnates as Elijah Modnar.

Except Jetstream Sam. That smooth fucker's canon no matter what.

I really hope they adjust it so that it isn't all about Survival, Tournament, and GPA anymore. And while the gameplay is better-suited for stuff like Team Deathmatch and Bomb Missions, I'd prefer they go for more fun, unique modes than generic "shoot the enemy and throw grenades" match types.

Also, I hope they don't pull that skill system crap again. In MGO 2 they gave you a window with enough space for six slots, but you could only ever use 4. They gave you a bunch of skills, but players had to create guides on how to improve them, and they took FOREVER to obtain unless you went to a dedicated room for skill-leveling (that was a pain in the ass, I remember farming to get CQC EX, only to find out that was total BS because you could still be grabbed, and you had no other skills to use).

And let's not forget the BS with making a Konami ID and a SONY ID just so you could play. And despite all that, my NAT type was 3 and I couldn't make a room on my own, despite being able to do that in almost any other game.

Another thing - make camouflage and clothing rewards mean something. It was absolutely retarded how you could get all of this "unique clothing" in MGO 2 and it meant nothing. Then there's people who wore all red people who wear all red clothing, the "elite Foxhound" players wore to show that they kicked ass in Survival Mode.

But it's a stupid thing really, A) because Red does nothing except give you bragging rights, and B) it made you stick out like a sore thumb in MGO 2's bland backgrounds. My solution: good players get emblems LIKE IN THE MAIN F'KNG game. Foxhound emblems, or maybe a Foxhound beret. Not a wardrobe of "kill me" color variety.

I could think of a ton of of cool uses for armor and equipment in MGO 2. Gas masks like Psycho Mantis could block smoke grenade stun, cardboard box hats could enable box tackle, or block stun grenades. Bikinis could act as a "book" and allow players to stun others. Heavier outfits carry more ammo, CQC suits allow for better CQC and stun knives. Tuxedos might give you better CQC, or give you specific weapons like a tranquilizer pistol, or a silenced handgun, or maybe optic camouflage on certain modes. Maybe the bandana accessory could give you temporary unlimited ammo the first time you spawn? Have fun with it Kojima, seriously.

And another thing they've really got to fix. "Democracy". I cannot tell you how many games I played where I sat there and watched the room argue over whether a stage could be played. And thanks to the voting system, players could boot the host, without whom the game cannot proceed,, and take over. I swear some days, we'd be sitting there in the lobby because someone didn't want to a play a certain map and refused to just leave. We'd have people who refused to start the game until someone was kicked. Not only that, they'd try to kick someone mid-game, and the screen pops up while I'm trying to aim and I have to either select 'No', or wait for it to pass. And I'm pretty sure there was no way to turn it off.

I know everybody says this when they meet players they don't like, but MGO 2 is one of the most toxic communities I've ever had the displeasure to be a part of. Every day, every play session, somebody had to be kicked for being a scrub, or for lagswitching, or generally being a douche. "Well I'll stop camping you when you get better at the game", those kinds of conversations, followed by a swarm of "Would you like to kick this player?" messages. Several rooms where people ask to be kicked so that their rank didn't go down, even though they were non-ranked games. Rooms where Lvl 23's-25's (the "Stop Having Fun" Guys, don't talk to me range) talk down to people who are Level 5-10.

Given Volgin's lightning powers, and the fact the his father kept the money used to make the Cobras happen, would the former's lightning powers have come from the same experiments?

Sure why not.

At the same time, not everything is really explained in MGS. There's no particular reason Psycho Mantis is the greatest telepath and psychokinetic in the world beyond that hey, there's sometimes weird shit in MGS.

I sure said that!

Sadly we won't be hearing (this) Major Zero again because his VA had to turn down the offer Konami made him. Not enough cash.

But I also just wanted to post this scene because it's short but very telling and I like it a lot. Zero proves he's very pragmatic here.

Jack Bauer doesn't come in cheap.

This is not the first time Konami was stingy with voice acting, remember how David Hayter had to surrender most of his paycheck to get everybody from MGS 1 back to Twin Snakes?
