I feel a bit about Jenner like I do Ben Carson.

They've allowed themselves to become jokes both to their communities as well as the public as a whole when both individuals are incredibly accomplished. How they can dig themselves out of that is anyone's guess.

My post on the U.S. Politics thread, reproduced re: Jenner and the GOP:

Caitlyn Jenner spent all of her adult life prior to coming out as trans living as a card-carrying Republican man. Forget "going for the lesser evil" of preferring Trump over Pence for gay rights — anyone sincerely concerned with LGBT rights would have voted for the whole Democratic slate, end of story. She was simply deluding herself into thinking there was still a place for her in that club; trying to be a Republican and a transwoman when those identities are inherently immiscible without some level of self-hatred or denial.

Speaking of, what happened to the group of gay Republicans that used to be around. I think they were the Log Cabin Republicans? Did they defect to the Democrats or the Libertarians?

This.

She either supported the tax cuts while indifferent to the racism.

Or she supported the tax cuts while also supporting the racism.

Either way, Caitlyn Jenner is a terrible person and coward.

She was fine with the GOP as long as it wasn't her demographic being marginalized basically.

I don't think it was ever about the demographic. She was fine with it until it was her, specifically, that was marginalized. I mean, even coming out as a transwoman was an exercise in narcissism for her. Her devotion to "LGBT rights" began and ended with what's good for Caitlyn Jenner — which is why other LGBT people and real allies think she's a fucking idiot or a coward.

It makes me sad to learn that all of Obama's attempts to improve the lifes of LBGT people were not enough to convince people like her.

It is even stranger that she belonged to a party in which many people would call her mentally ill. Though I guess people are generally good at ignoring unpleasant facts.

It doesn't really make me sad, LGBT people are people and thus will always have at least a few degenerates. Can't please them all as they say.

Trump takes bid to restrict transgender troops to Supreme Court

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-court-transgender-idUSKCN1NS292

President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review lower court rulings blocking a policy barring certain transgender people from military service, declining to wait for decisions from federal appeals courts currently considering the issue.

The flag of diversity flutters at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica, as a show of support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in Costa Rica, June 3, 2016. REUTERS/Juan Carlos Ulate/File Photo Trump announced in March that he would endorse a plan by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to restrict the military service of transgender people who experience a condition called gender dysphoria. The policy replaced an outright ban on transgender service members that Trump announced last year on Twitter, citing concern over military focus and medical costs.

But judges in federal courts in Washington state, California, and Washington, D.C., refused to lift injunctions that they had issued against Trump’s original ban to allow the updated policy to be enforced.

The judges said the new policy was essentially the same as the original ban, or was merely a plan to implement the original ban, which they had ruled would likely run afoul of the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law.

The government’s appeals of those rulings had been moving forward. The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in one case it is handling in October.

But by seeking high court review before the appeals courts have ruled, which has been a hallmark of the administration’s litigation strategy, the government said it wanted to ensure that the Supreme Court would be able to review the dispute before its term ends in June 2019.

@Zarastro: Most of us, specially in Europe, would support Clinton over Trump and you can see it in various polls. Again, every group has it's fair share of people who think differently, which is mostly a boon.

But sometimes, like here, the desire of more change/power overwhelms the wanting of true equality for all LGBT people around the globe. It's not like Caitlyn Jenner has had the same experiences as most of us.

[up][up][up]Hope it doesn't happen. Trump and empowering the republicans is the worst thing that has happened in a while, not the least of which is because it inspired all the white terrorists to come out of their hiding places and take to the streets.

It also showed that if your white, like the Bundy Terrorists you are allowed to get away with anything.

Even though it's very hard to make a push on these issues when there's a complete lack of receptiveness on the other side, at least they launched the project. By the way, I expect this effort to extend to the US' allies as well as its foes.

[up][up] So ... what did Pence do to piss off Trump? Because we have never seen Trump care about the rights of any minority before unless it was to stick it to someone else.

Maybe this? That GOP senators attacked Pence for the shutdown might suggest Trump that they view him as the string puller.

Sadly, I don't think that global effort is going to do anything significant. There is no way Trump's administration that also include Pence in it is going to do this seriously.

[up] Naturally. DBL diagnosed what's going on effectively. He doesn't give a rat's ass about us or our lives, he's using Iran's poor treatment of the LGBTQ Community as a cudgel while allying with people who would see the same happen in America. This is about fighting Iran, not any particular moral qualm about how they treat the LGBTQ community.

I take a small comfort that it just reminds the actual ideologues in the GOP that Trump is a bit like Cthulhu.

You don't get any special treatment from being in his cult.

You maybe just get eaten first.
