Missing Launched YKTTW "Girly Boy"

I already asked this in "Ask the Tropers", but no one responded.

So here's the problem. Overnight, someone launched the YKTTW Girly Boy, even though it still needs tweaking. Normally, I would just put it in my watchlist and cart it off to Trope Repair Shop, but there's one problem.

I can't find it.

My theory is that a Troper discarded it for the lulz. So first, I need to find out how to bring it back to YKTTW (we need a pinned thread on this subject), and we need to find the Troper who discarded it to either warn them, or possibly use the banhammer on him/her.

Check the Launches page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/launches.php It shows all recently launched and discarded YKTTWs and who launched or discarded them. (And has Restore buttons.)

PS3D launched it to discard. Why, I don't know, you'd have to ask him by PM.

I've restored it. But yes the Launch List is your friend.

[up] Thanks! [awesome] But still, we should make a pinned thread about the Launches page.

Now I will be PM ing the launcher in question...

EDIT: Now what is going on? ginsengaddict just discarded it too.

Restored. His reasoning is that "we don't need this". If we don't need this, we might as well discard Tomboy, since its the Distriff Counterpart of it.

People should not just arbitrarily discard YKTTW's as a kind of conceptual downvoting. This is bordering on the ridiculous. In fact, I'd strongly consider making it a banning offense.

[up] It's not already? Please go ahead and propose it. Personally, discarding a YKTTW on a whim is on the same level than vandalizing a page.

...Now I'm afraid one more person will come and blank the YKTTW.

If someone feels that getting rid of a YKTTW that bothers them is really so worth it, they will be introduced to our ban hammer and lose their entire wiki privileges as a result.

[up] Fantastic! *throws another [awesome] in*

Apparently, the first person who discarded it did it accidently, not knowing it would remove it entirely from the list. I suggest we leave him alone unless he starts making a big deal about it.

Case closed. Let's wait a day to monitor "Girly Boy" before locking this thread. It's a good thing to have a happy ending sometimes.

...Apparently, people harbor a deep hate this YKTTW.

Someone deleted the related tropes from Girly Boy. I wished I saved the revised copy of the description. sad

Actually, they trimed most of the description down!

EDIT: Phew, I was able to find a recovered version.

Nice to see people on this wiki are being thoughtful and respectful regarding their treatment of material they don't like. If you catch the last editor of the YKTTW, post it here.

[up][up]I think part of the problem is that you've declared you intend to launch it regardless of any objections or problems with it. Any possibility of launch should be pending resolution of discussions, not I'm going to launch this and you can take it up in TRS if you want.

[up] I don't think that is a valid reason to deface a YKTTW...

There is never a valid reason to deface or vandalize someone's YKTTW. Launching to discard should only occur if there's general consensus that a YKTTW is not launchable.

[up][up] I agree, it was just an observation. I mean don't think that YKTTW should get launched, but someone just discarding it out of spite is the wrong way to go about doing stuff. Of course, a troper declaring that they are gonna launch a YKTTW no matter what and to take issues up in TRS later is probably wrong too.

Still two wrongs don't make a right and all that.

[up] I didn't meant to come off as that, but "Girly Boy" is a valid trope. If people spent more time constructively discussing about it instead of vandalizing it, the flaws that they see may be fixed.

Also, I brought up TRS since it's hard to have an actual discussion about a YKTTW. I have a sick feeling for at least two of my tropes, one which may actually be two tropes, and another people were confusing with Incompatible Orientation. There's a reason why lots of newly-launched tropes land in the Trope Repair Shop, because people don't see the problems during the development stage.

-looks at Cutlist-

I'm sorry if I'm being a jerk, but it's just that I don't understand what's with all the hate towards Girly Boy. I may come off as defensive or stubborn, but I'm keeping my ground. There's just an unusual amount of scorn towards it, and if I didn't do what I did, Girly Boy would just be another YKTTW that fell through the cracks.

There's a reason why I tagged How Did We Miss This One on the YKTTW. It's a common trope that plays with gender standards and is also a supertrope for quite a lot of tropes. That's why I'm so insistant of launching it. I want to be the one who had planted the seed for this trope at this wiki.

So, back to YKTTW it is.

I would really like more people to help me with this. I don't want to be on the giving end of a one-man crusade.

I'm having a long disussion about this trope with other members of the Shounen Project.

Apparently, the problem is the all-dreaded Double Standard.

I know you may not like this, but I think you might want to let this one sit for a few months, let the furor die down, then come back to it.

I think that discard was a mistake. The guy added an example, then discarded. Those actions don't match.

I added a confirmation step to the discard process which may prevent that from happening in future.

[up] Phew.

[up][up] All right. sad I'll let it settle for awhile, from a week to a month, and then bring it up again. Hopefully, some of the most avid haters would've lost interest in the discussion. However, if someone else picks it up, I'll roll with it.

By the way, I'm tempted to make an analogy comparing Girly Boy's situation to woman sufferage or gay rights, but that would probably be invoking some varient of Godwin's Law.

Temp ban, or permanent? I agree this needs to be slammed down on, but I also think users who resort to it should be given a second chance.
