"In that case...prepare yourself, Sub Zero, for it will not be a pleasant trip."

The shadow flickered in the air, strands coming off like branches, its shape becoming angular, the imitation of his head morphing into a reptilian mask, and all the while cruelly laughing. Suddenly, a mass of tendrils shot out of the vortex, and rammed into Sub Zero.

Pain and devastation. All he could think about was pain and devastation. He saw his home being torn to pieces. He saw his allies crumble and reform again screaming like banshees. He saw his enemies warp like putty, becoming hideous gibbering freaks bounding towards him with inhuman giggling. He was completely alone. He was surrounded and crushed. The illusions were only the tip of the iceberg. He felt, heard and saw every miserable and painful memory of his own being played over and over again. All he knew was fear, and rage, and the pain building in his head.

Samus's disposition only took a turn for the worse when Beryl explained what they had turned into for the day. Pirates of all things, why did it have to be pirates? Sure, this particular style appeared to be ancient compared to the pirates she's used to dealing with...but that really didn't change much. What made it worse was how proud Beryl looked while she explained it, why would she even want to see them in a positive light? Fictional or not, Samus has seen with her own eyes what pirates are capable of. There was nothing good about being associated with any type of pirate, and yet she was supposed to just smile and be happy about becoming one for the day?

"...Why is she so happy about this? There's nothing good about this curse..." She said to Batou and Minako. Judging by her tone, the two would be able to tell she was quite offended with this.

I should have known. Not to trust a sorceror.

But the pain was not to last long.

Damage to neural system detected.

And as the control systems shut down, Sub-Zero's abused body collapsed,

leaving a noticable dent in the deck.

With that, the mental attack went out like a candle. No memory remained, save for remembering a profound mental agony, and some lingering thoughts about the bad aspects of his history.

"My end of the bargain is kept, remember what I have told you. Should you need to know more, Sub Zero, consult the regent of devouring light. For now, ninja of standing water, I'll be seeing you..."

With that, the Makuta was gone.

Raspberyl blinked in confusion as Lee staggered about, the bottle he'd been holding rolling toward her and bumping against the toe of her boot. A quick glance was all she needed to figure out the contents, eliciting a quiet sigh.

"It's kinda early to be drinking, don't you think?" she frowned, not entirely sure why Lee had felt the need to get smashed in the first place. Had one of the others brought his manhood into question? Was he just trying to impress them? Regardless of the reason, Raspberyl was surprised to find that the bottle was still very nearly full

. Deciding that a bottle rolling around was bound to cause some sort of accident, and not wanting to waste what she assumed was perfectly good alcohol, even if she didn't plan on drinking it, Raspberyl picked the bottle up, though the cork was nowhere to be found.

"...You okay, Lee? Maybe you should sit down." the Delinquent suggested, stepping closer to the drunken shinobi.

After a fine breakfast of a week old baked potato on a stick, Gene took aboard the tank as the group drove it into the lake. Common sense would say that this was stupid beyond all belief, but common sense had been taking a back seat in Gene's mind even before he was pulled into Extremeus. He looked on in anticipation as the vehicle hit the curse zone... and nearly fell off when it lurched forward towards the water. He flailed his arm around in the hopes of grabbing something stable to balance himself and managed to catch a railing that wasn't there before. From his precarious view of the ship he whistled in impressiveness. It wasn't exactly "piratey" but it certainly looked good. After pulling himself on deck, he checked himself to examine his own inevitable change. It was not all that different from his normal outfit (though luckily he didn't get a hook hand or a peg leg). His longcoat had shortened and the bandana usually worn around his neck was now on his head, along with a very nice hat. A belt and sash wraped around his torso, with (rather redundant) weapon placed inside. His hair hand changed as well, now slightly longer as well as sporting a rocking bread (though nowhere near as awesome as the one Batou now had).

"Awesome" Gene said, agreeing with the general statement of the rest of the group "Why can't all the curses be like this?" He asked, looking around to get a better look of the ship, and saw Samus' outfit. The God Hand had to use every ounce of self control to burst out some perverse line. Instead he walked u and place her hand on her should as if to comfort her. "Sorry, Samus" he said in mock sympathy "But I guess Extremus doesn't want you wearing sensible clothing"

Jim just shrugged when Alice asked about target practice, then wandered over to a part of the deck where he could sit in the shade of the sails. This suit's not as hot as I expected it to be, but it's still uncomfortable. I wonder if it was meant to be worn over long periods, like my own suit Jim thought.

Thinking about his suit change brought another thing to mind, and he reached down to his hip where he kept his large revolver before. It had changed into some kind of large flintlock, that was currently loaded.*

It looked like it put some serious hurt on something; too bad Jim wanted to save the shot for Mengsk.

A loud thump got Jim's attention, and he reholstered the flintlock. Looking over, he saw Sub-Zero collaspe. "Hey! What happened?" Jim yelled loudly within his suit again as he stood up. He glanced around, wondering if something hit Sub-Zero.

Oswald, back on the crow's nest, surveyed the ocean blue. The height gave him not only a clear view of the horizon but also of the decks of all three ships. Due to this he noticed only Alice's arrival, but Sub-Zero's sudden collapse. "MAN DOWN, MAN DOWN!" Oswald called out. "Mr. Sub-Zero has fallen unconscious!"

47 cringed. The kid has gotten himself drunk. How ridiculously irresponsible. "Go under the deck, lie down in whatever bed or hammock is down there. You're a liability in this state."

What is down there, anyway?

47 descended under the deck.

The bounty hunter glanced over at the crew on the longship, specifically at Oswald. He seemed so cheerful with becoming a pirate which Rundas could not understand. Despite how goofy and...ancient these outfits were, who would want to be assoicated with pirates whether it be by sea or space? The pirates of his home universe are the bane of the cosmos and were the cause of many wars and unfortunate events so the pirates of ancient times could not be too different thought the bounty hunter.

Either way, no matter how much he loathed this curse, he knew that he would have to go along with it until they reached the other side of this ocean.

—Back in the Port Town—

Once the three ships of the group were far enough in the distance from the port town, another crew of seafarers were getting ready to leave as well. Most of which seemed to consist of mainly bipedal alligators and crocodiles of many different sizes and carrying different weapons, all dressed like pirates. The largest of the crocs seemed to be following the ships with his sight before switching out to a telescope to see if they were at a far distance for them to follow without being detected.

The ship itself that the crew were using appeared to be a large galleon with barrels, three sails, and a crows nest with miniature vultures with small bandannas perched on top of it along with a larger bird with a full blown pirate hat.

“Raise the anchor, scallywags! We are setting sail and followin' the crew on those ships.” The captain commanded.

A large muscular croc turned the crank that lifted the anchor off land rather easily while another of the crew members looked at their captain and asked “Why are we chasing these guys anyway, they are just travelers who pass through here on their trip to that light pillar.”

“Ahh, but they have some interesting valuables with them from the information one of the Klobbers told me. Do not worry, if he is wrong, the landlubber will be rightfully punished, now quit asking questions and start preparin' to set sail!" The large croc commanded, the crewmember nodded before rushing towards the steering wheel now waiting for the sails to be hoisted.

Once they were, the galleon started the sail in the same direction that the group were sailing towards, all the while being a quite a distance behind them as to not be detected. One of the sails that was on the top of the galleon had a mark that looked like the traditional skull n' crossbones symbol normally used for a pirate ship. But instead of a normal human skull, the head was in the shape of a crocodile's head.

Rogue flew over to the barrel to look at the card closely and looked back toward Setzer.

Dat barrel would be destroyed by now if I were holdin' all the cards, moi ami.

Rogue was surprised when Alice then destroyed the barrel with her own deck of cards.

It'd be done with a single card, too.

"Nifty skills," Rogue said to Setzer and Alice. "I know a guy who has the power to make playing cards into explosives."

"Call me Rogue," Rogue introduce herself to the two.

Guybrush yelled out to Alice from the Raven's Claw, "Hey, I can hold my breath for ten minutes!"

Both Rogue and Guybrush noticed Sub-Zero fell onto the ground. Guybrush ran over to check on Sub-Zero.

"Sub-Zero!" Rogue yelled to the others. "Is he okay?!"

Setzer looked somewhat surprised to see Rouge fly, but didn't say anything about it. "Well met, Rouge. My ability to use cards as weapons must not be so foreign here...If there was some gunpowder here, I could make a deck of exploding cards myself."

He looked over to Sub-Zero, who was making a commotion on the Raven's Claw when he collapsed.

"Poor man must have run out of fuel, looking at how mechanical he is."

Aki's spot on the side of the Edelweiss had translated onto a spot on the roof of the cabin when they'd hit the water, and at current she was sat with her legs dangling over the side and her hair being whipped around her face by the salty wind. Her coat had changed in the same way everyone else's had, turning into something the girl more associated with Rogue Traders than any actual pirates. The t-shit under it having decided to turn into something a lot shorter that showed her midriff. She'd buttoned the coat over it. It was cold. The gun had also changed, into a much older looking weapon with a horribly complicated trigger mechanism. A flintlock, maybe. She wasn't entirely sure. History had never been something she'd had to study before the Imperium, and the Schola's records didn't go back far enough to cover any firearms that weren't bolters.

The ship looked a bit more modern. At least, as far as she was sure what modern even meant in Extremus. Or even after having been in the Imperium. It was more recognizable than the thing her gun had turned into, at least, boxy and grey and with a fairly large turret on the front. A battleship, maybe. It wasn't anything she recognized from the Imperium, or even from the Facility

, and in all honesty it wasn't something she remembered at all past a vague shape and half-remembered fear. She'd lived near the coast once, in a shack , what seemed like an eternity ago. A decade, maybe, but that didn't seem enough. She wasn't actually sure, apart from that it was before the Facility so she must have been very young and that she'd been with her parents.

There'd been ships like this there, grey. She remembered being hurried back to... somewhere. A shelter, maybe. Inside there were the worried voices of her parents, echoing above her head in the dark. Something about pirates.

Some of the others had been talking about pirates before, and excited that they were dressed as them. Maybe they were different pirates. From what she could remember the pirates back with her parents hadn't dressed like that at all, but she wasn't sure what they had dressed like. Pirates weren't a good thing, or at least she remembered being told they weren't. Not something anyone would really want to pretend to be. Maybe. She suspected she hadn't really understood at the time. The woman who was usually in the powered armour hadn't looked all that happy about it either, so maybe people just felt differently about them. She couldn't (or maybe they just hadn't told her, she'd been young) remember what it was they actually did that was bad, aside from it needing guns

, just that it was Bad and that they were Bad Men. Some kind of sea-based raiders, maybe, although she wasn't sure what else they could be. She wasn't entirely sure she wanted to think about it too hard. It had gotten better since she'd met Cain, but that part of her life was something she tried to avoid altogether if it was at all possible.

Maybe-

At which point, one of the newer members of the group (she hadn't caught his name due to only just catching his existence) started shouting at the others, shouting at the sky, and just... generally shouting. The bald man with the barcode on the back of his head

was currently trying to talk him down. If that was the rod. Aki wasn't very good at judging, but he sounded a little stern to call it "talking down". The girl carefully puled in her legs and got to her feet, and apprehensively grabbed her needlessly complicated rifle. This could prove to be a problem.

And as it turned out, the... other man was already charging. That wasn't good. Almost on instinct the girl shouldered her rifle, hoping to god it was cocked.

"Um, Halt!"

Batou let out a deep chuckle at Beryl's joke about being captain. "Whatever you say, kid!" he said with a grin as Minako saluted the demon-girl. Pirates. Bloodthirsty bastards of the sea, he thought as he looked at himself and then back at the two teenagers, then to Samus as she walked in. I wonder how they came to be so... romanticized. Beryl and Minako certainly seemed to be enjoying the curse, though Samus didn't seem to be at all pleased with the situation and asked if they knew what they had been turned into.

Beryl answered the question

as Dante poked his head down from atop the cabin. "Oh, wonderful, I'm so relieved knowing that you'll be my lookout, Dante! Now I have nothing to worry about!" he quipped back at the demon-hunter. Beryl headed outside the cabin to check on something, leaving Samus standing there looking even more upset. "Romanticism," Batou said as he shrugged after Samus asked why she thought pirates were awesome. "I guess your world might be different, but where I'm from, old style pirates are painted in a different light now than they were when they actually sailed. Makes for better stories about them if they're more interesting than just bloodthirsty cutthroats, unless you're trying to scare people."

Looking towards the deck, Batou thought he saw a bottle roll across the deck. Hadn't Beryl gone out to check on something? "Come to think of it, what's going on out on deck?"

Minako turned to Samus and noted the woman's bitter mood upon finding out they were dressed like pirates. She listened to Batou explain it before adding in her own two cents. "I know where I am from Pirates aren't really around much anymore. There the media like to put a lot of old life styles in glamorous light. Pirates, Knights, even Ninjas. Its pretty common knowledge that they weren't the nicest of people, but whats the harm in dressing up like them? Not like we're going to go pillaging any time soon." She said with a shrug.

When Batou mentioned something happening on the deck. She tried to see what was happening and asked "What do you think it is?"

Snake turned from the side of the ship when he heard a commotion towards the middle of the deck. He saw the kid with the bug-eyes picking a fight with the man called 47. He walked over and said "Alright, thats enough kid. Calm down before you do something you'll regret."

Samus only gave Gene a very annoyed look, she certainly wasn't in the mood for any of his flirting. "Please move your hand..." Was all she said to him.

So then she listened to Batou and Minako explain about how pirates have been romanticized back where they came from, and the whole notion disgusted her. People knew about what they've done and why they were famous for it, and yet they became something to be admired. She supposed it was because they hadn't become a widespread threat in their worlds, she had enough knowledge about the subject to know that it never really stopped growing on any planet in her universe, but everyone else was another story...Even so, time could go on but piracy would always stay the same.

She sighed as she thought about Minako's last comment, she knew very well that the group wouldn't have been acting like pirates, most of them had been good people after all, but she did desperately want to point out that it was insensitive to someone like her. She hadn't been the only victim of pirate activities, and pretending to be one just felt like a slap in the face.

But she didn't have the opportunity to say any of that, Batou had pointed out that something was happening on the deck, and they aren't able to see what either.

"Then we should probably go see, shouldn't we?" She said to the others. "If there's a problem then we all should do what we can to solve it..."

May spun around at the sound, eyes widening as Lee charged 47 for no forseeable reason.

"What do you think you're doing?" she demanded, taking a few steps in his direction as Aki shouldered her rifle. The sight of the bottle gave some sort of a clue as to why he was acting differently, but May hadn't really thought the alcohol would cause him to immediately charge at someone.

Deciding that it would probably be a good idea to try and stop this before Aki

took any further measures, May quickly grabbed the strap of the bag, pulling it up onto her shoulder as she ran over.
