I can see what he meant, seeing as how "Don't Let Me Down" has lyrics focusing on something being missing forever, then hoping that they won't let them down when it shows up. Kind of like how people are hoping for SCVI.

Also, why have Dante exclusive to the PS 4 version? It's not like he's a Sony-only character. Why not use someone Sony actually owns? It'd make more sense to me.

Anyways, I just need Soulcalibur in my life. I don't get why it's taking so long. Yeah, they made one bad game but it shouldn't be an excuse to just shitcan the whole series. The thing is, I don't think it's dead, but waiting feels like forever. The reason I don't think it's dead is because they've clearly been using Soulcalibur to promote money-related ventures. If it were dead, they wouldn't bother at all. I don't get why there hasn't been so much as a whisper of a new mainline installment. Don't they realize that bringing the series back on current gen, with the old characters back, would get the series back into everyone's good graces again?

It's just so frustrating to be in the middle of the longest gap between SC games in series history and not have even a peep, a little something, to confirm that it's real. It's having an effect on their PR. If you've looked at their Facebook page, they've been losing followers by the day. Since I started tracking it a few months ago, they've lost roughly 3000 followers. It sucks because Soulcalibur was one of my favorite franchises growing up and I want it to make its triumphant return.

I bet Tekken is the reason we have to wait so long. Because Namco plays favorites with them, they wanted to make sure that T7 was getting all the attention to avoiding SC cannibalizing its sales. Now that it's out, there's the fear that T7's DLC will keep SCVI from being announced. That would just be absurd, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Long story short, this wait sucks.

Eh, I guess maybe because he has more prominence in PlayStation consoles? Couldn't really think of anyone else they could use. Plus, they already used Kratos in their SC game for PSP. Maybe Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn? But it doesn't look like she uses swords in that game...maybe she could use spears?

By the way, how are the others? I honestly thought I had a solid list of potential guest fighters. Could've been worse, really. I could've had Kirito and Asuna in that list, but I figured people here would have my head for suggesting those two.

RE: the rest of your post: you raise valid arguments. Best case scenario, they're waiting to finish announcing their next guest fighters for Tekken 7 before doing so much as hinting at anything resembling a hypothetical SoulCalibur VI on account of how A, SC is the one who had jaw-dropping guest fighters and B, Tekken 7 is really killing it with its own cast of guest fighters, isn't it?

Really, first Akuma, then Geese Howard? Makes you wonder who could be next. And it makes you wonder how they'd top that for their next fighting game, am I right?

EDIT: [up] Okay, that actually would kick ass.

To get that sweet sweet "Featuring Dante from Devil May Cry" meme.

Also, the only Guest Fighter in this series who was ever from a series exclusive to one console was Link in SC 2.
(not counting Kratos on PSP, that is)

[up] Oh I see what you mean because:

  • While the original versions of SC II had Heihachi and Spawn as exclusives to the PS2 and Xbox versions respectively, the HD rereleases had it so that you'd get both guys on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
  • Even though SC IV had Darth Vader and Yoda by default in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions respectively, there'd be DLC to have the missing Star Wars character (Yoda for the PS3 version and Vader in the 360 version).
  • And SC V just split the difference and had Ezio in all versions of the game.

Huh, come to think of it, my list of hypothetical guest fighters would've probably been a case of History Repeats if it wasn't for the suggesting of the cyborg guy from Killer Instinct...

I'm pretty sure Tekken is the best selling fighting game franchise so of course Namco would prioritize that first.

[up][up]That's not what I mean. What I'm saying is that even when the series did have characters exclusive to each console, they weren't actually from series exclusive to that console. Tekken was no Playstation only, Spawn wasn't X Box only, and of course Jedi and Sith weren't exclusive to one console or another.

Wasn't Tekken only on Play Station systems at the time though? minus being an arcade game.

Yeah but DMC isn't Sony exclusive, hasn't been for a decade. It just doesn't seem like it should be PS 4 exclusive unless it's a timed sort of thing. I get the association with Sony, but there's no reason Dante can't be on other platforms.

Besides that, I'm really growing to hate Tekken due to all the shilling Namco has been giving the series at Soulcalibur's expense. It's ridiculous how we're closing in on six years since the last mainline SC game, and not even a peep, a tiny confirmation that it even exists is out there. I mean, Injustice 2 was confirmed to happen before Mortal Kombat X was even announced, so I don't see why just confirming that it exists would hurt the sales of Tekken.

Now we're apparently having to wait through the DLC cycle to get to SCVI? What kind of bullshit is that? Why can't they just hype up SCVI, don't they realize that SC sales means more money for them? God, I hate this turn of events. I remember when Namco used to treat the two series as equals, boy have the times changed.

I would imagine now would be an opportunity to link up the timeline of the tekken universe and soul calibur a bit more since Tekken 7 introduced the Hachijo clan it would be a perfect opportunity to reveal an ancestor of said clan in soul calibur since I would imagine soul edge and / or soul calibur would be on their radar as something to eliminate or use to their advantage.

Also, I believe Namco originally wanted Kasumi from Dead or Alive to be the Xbox guest character, but couldn't get her (because of Itagaki's hatred towards sister franchise Tekken), so they settled on Spawn. It might seem like a different time, but DOA was once a third party exclusive to the Xbox brand and was used as Microsoft's answer to Tekken, a third party exclusive to PlayStation. It honestly would've lined up perfectly if they could've gotten her.

Now I'm feeling nostalgic.

[up][up] Other than Yoshimitsu, I'd rather have a further link between this series and Tekken by way of revealing that G Corporation was founded by Fygul Cestemus agents who stopped believing in the Greek Gods, but continued making living beings For Science!.

While it would be cool to see more loose ends between the series tied up, should this explain what happened to the swords themselves? Should someone (read: Talim, Zasalamel and allies) finally seal the swords once and for all?

I just wonder how they're going to continue the story, if they game comes of course. I don't think they can continue from where SCV left off without causing a backlash, and even Hoshino prefers the older characters over the new. Makes me wonder, how is he going to bring the old characters back?

They could retcon the last game or start over.

Which would be unfortunate since most of the new characters never really had an opportunity to make a real impression. Just the two mains with only one really being disliked and the other I suppose being cut down the middle in regards to like or dislike.

They'll do what Guilty Gear and Ace Attorney did: After an entry with mostly new characters and the past cast being sidelined, they'll bring back a bunch of the old characters and dynamics (With limited explanation) while still incorporating the newer cast, just to soft reboot it.

I predict time travel will be involved to bring some of the new cast back to the past to change history. Because hell that was basically the second half of V's plot.

Ryu Hayabusa seems to be a more plausible choice for Guest Character since SC is weapon-based and Kasumi has no notable weapon... while Hayabusa has his Dragon Sword.

They said Dead or Alive characters, and while Hayabusa might be a DOA character he is considered a Ninja Gaiden character first and foremost. Also, doesn't Kasumi have blades that she doesn't use? I could see that being used as her weapons.

But it doesn't matter since it never happened so we'll never know.

I was thinking, what do you guys think is going on at Namco? I have to believe that Project Soul is working on something, because I find it impossible to believe that Namco is just paying them to sit on their asses all day doing nothing. Clearly Project Soul is still around, because they updated their website for the first time last December. If it was announced that Namco shut down Project Soul, then it would be a good indication that SC truly is dead, but they haven't.

Also, in one of the interviews, composer Junichi Nakatsuru said to "Please look forward to all the exciting new themes our sound designing team will produce for you." which sounds to me they have every intention of continuing. I just need a new main series game to be announced, one that corrects SCV's errors. I don't want my favorite series to die because of one bad game. What are your thoughts?

Does anyone know how I might get in contact with Nakatsuru-san? I've got something to ask him that isn't about a future game.
