According to the art books, Algol was setting up something big, big enough for both Master Edge and Olcadan to be concerned. Whatever that ws, I hope we see him again.

Then they went and made her a fucking copy character.

Given she's Soul Calibur's Inferno, why wouldn't she be?

Good point.

Still.

Seeing her with that crystal sword and shield just feel so right to me. When I see her with other weapons it just feels off.

Same with Kilik. I'm supposed to believe that this staff user 'trained' with Edge Master for 17 years and now he can literally use any weapon? How the hell did he learn Voldo or Parokolos' styles?

[up]The idea that mimics know weapons they logically shouldn't, and the sheer number of redundant mimics, bothers me too. When I discussed how I'd like to see a roster for a future sequel go, I covered how I'd like each of the mimics to be done. I'll restate it here in a bit more clear way. Additionally, this will also help cover which characters can inherit the styles of guest characters.

  • Inferno should take on the appearance of a severely malfested, inflamed Arcturus, as he was the first person it posessed, and should only be able to copy the weapons of:
    • Malfested characters (Voldo, Tira, Raphael, Amy/Viola, Ivy, Astaroth)
    • Those driven to madness by the Evil Seed (Kilik, Aeon Calcos)
    • Those who have canonically wielded Soul Edge: Cervantes, Siegfried/Nightmare, Zasalamel (but not Algol, see below)
  • Algol should inherit a derivation of Necrid's moveset (plus his own moves). In fact, retcon Necrid into being Algol's previous, imperfect attempt to escape Astral Chaos.
  • Kilik shouldn't be a mimic
  • Olcadan should inherit Heihachi's Bracer fighting style. It should be fitting that the gods would curse someone so proud and so capable with his own two fists, and that such a person with two fists could equal the ultimate weapon master...
  • Edge Master should be able to mimic every "pure" weapon discipline that (so no Ivy, Taki, Viola, Algol, Yoshimitsu, etc. that implements magic or mechanics)
  • Elysium should be able to mimic:
    • Wielders of Soul Calibur (Siegfried, Xianghua)
    • Those it wants to appear before, since it has shown that it can do that (Sophitia, Talim)
    • Longsword derived disciplines (Raphael, Amy, Salia, Johan), due to being weilded by King Arthur, and to give more options
  • Charade, not having been a weapon user in life, should not suddenly be a mimic in death. Instead, his moveset should share some moves with the Grieve Edge and Wave Sword disciplines (as per his appearance in Soul Calibur III), with additional levitation and shape changing moves (as per his weapon demonstration in Soul Calibur II) and Eye Beams

Note that in my hypothetical, for the most part, SCV didn't happen, though I do like the idea of Amy learning the Viola moveset due to learning magic from Ivy or someone else while Raphael is away.

So, because I've had additional thoughts since the last time I posted it, this is what I'd like to see in a future Soul Calibur fighting game. I'd set this as an alternative to the time frame of SCV, thus this takes place shortly after SCIV (though there might be some changes to that game's story, where appropriate).

Main Game Modes:

  • Individual Story Mode (Tales of Souls)
  • Arcade Mode
  • Survival Mode
  • Team Battle
  • Online Mode
  • Training Mode
  • Museum
    • character profile, stage and weapon history viewers (as per SC 2)
    • exhibition demos and matches
    • development artwork
    • Music Player
    • Replay
  • Customizer
    • Create A Soul (with returning CAS specific disciplines from SC 3)
    • Color Editor (of main character outfits)
    • Weapon Forger: choose extra weapon effects, where each positive or negative effect would be worth different point values

Alternative modes:

  • Chronicles of the Sword (play through another stage in the swords' history)
  • Challenge Tower

Characters:

  • Aeon Calcos
  • Algol (inheriting Necrid's discipline, see above)
  • Amy/Viola (rapier & crystal ball)
  • Astaroth
  • Cassandra
  • Cervantes
  • Charade
  • Dampierre
  • Hilde
  • Hwang
  • Ivy
  • Kilik
  • Li Long
  • Maxi
  • Mitsurugi
  • Nightmare
  • Olcadan (inheriting Heihachi's discipline)
  • Raphael
  • Rock
  • Seong Mi-Na
  • Setsuka
  • Siegfried
  • Sophitia
  • Taki
  • Talim
  • Tira
  • Voldo
  • Xianghua
  • Yoshimitsu
  • Yunsung
  • Zasalamel
  • Zwei note

Promoted to Playable storyline characters:

  • Ashlotte (inheriting Spawn's discipline, including the hovering stance, done as Fygul Cestemus magic & mechanics)
  • Bangoo (inheriting Link's discipline, with a tomahawk tethered to his wrist replacing sword & boomerang, and the bow replacing the bow & shield)
  • Chie (moveset derived from the Katana & Shuriken and Kunai disciplines, with influences from Natsu's discipline)
  • Johan Durer (inheriting Apprentice's discipline)
  • Salia Olschmidt (inheriting Vader's discipline)

Playable Bosses (mimics, see above):

  • Edgemaster
  • Inferno
  • Elysium

Unplayable Bosses:

  • Night Terror (avatar of the combined Soul Edge and Soul Calibur)
  • Colossus (avatar of the gods)

Yoda and Ezio are the only guest characters I haven't decided who may inherit their style, if anyone. Only Leixia and and Xiba would be retconned out of the story, though I'd make Xianghua and Kilik being a couple their canon ending, so those two could still happen.

Of course, this being my wishlist, I'd like to see a Sub-Saharan African represented as well (see: my created character idea, also, my other idea, Leodegrance). With those two, Bangoo, Chie, Johan, Salia, and Inferno as playable, that's adding 7 characters to the series in one game, for 42 total. 2 female, 2 Mighty Glacier, a ranged fighter, who alongside the African make 2 non-Eurasians, and Inferno. A decent mix.

Honestly I'm pretty tired of guest fighters. I'd like to see this series stand on its own again, without them, and especially without ones that don't fit.

Guests are actually the only reason I got into this series. Link was my gateway and if it weren't for him I wouldn't have never known this series existed. Now that I am older, I know about the story and all but honestly guests are the only reason I even started this.

I think Soul needs guests. Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct have done wonders with guests and I'd like to see Soul Calibur continue that trend.

I really couldn't care less about if they fit or not. If they put Locke or Dante in I'm buying the shit out of that.

Also, I kind of like Dampierre. He's good for a few chuckles.

Tira can go get fucked though. I hate that Two-Face bitch.

I will admit to a bias against him because the only way to even see him (outside of random assholes online using him or his moveset) in V without buying him is to run across the one randomly-selected virtual "player" in Quick Battle. Which is set to the highest difficulty in the game.

You've quite likely (unless you're a hardcore fan who's played every game or read every scrap of web content) never heard of him, nor ever seen his moveset, which by the way includes that one throw of his that's at least thirty seconds long (I don't care if you can buttonmash out of it, you can't do that with any other throw and there's no hint that you can), and is again on the hardest difficulty setting, so you're guaranteed to be smashing your face against him for awhile before you get through him.

Just... Even aside from that, his moveset looks like a cheap cross between Voldo and Ezio, and has that fucking throw, and he looks and sounds like a fucking clown.

EDIT: Xiba is a joke, Yoshimitsu has batshit insane moves, and Voldo has Confusion Fu for days. And there are also joke weapons.

Actually, I've played the PSP game (Broken Destiny), and so I know what he's all about, and in fact, (and now I'm ashamed to say it) I used to be pretty good as him. (My main was Mitsurugi though.)

How Xbox players do you think own a PSP

Probably not a significant portion of them

Soul Series isn't and has never been my favorite of all game series, either (except maybe briefly when all I had was II and hadn't gotten the 360 yet), which would be why I didn't go out of my way to learn about all these games it had on consoles I didn't own

I disagree.

I love guests. The only guests I didn't like were Yoda (Gameplay reasons only) and The Apprentice. (Fuck that Arcade fight.)

Granted, I don't play as them often, but I like that they are there and can act as an extra boon for people to buy the game.

I probably would've liked Starkiller if you didn't have to get fucked by him a million times before he was playable

I probably wouldn't hate Dampierre with... I'd probably hate Damnpierre with maybe 5% less utter firey vitriol if the only impression I had of him wasn't getting alternately kicked to death in the shins and locked into a ten-hour-long throw and then not even getting to challenge him again for ages. Fucker even has the gall to shout "You coward!" when you ring him out.
Is it not insulting enough that I keep getting stomped by Boingo the Carny Clown? Is that really necessary?
Fuck you, I'm not shelling out five bucks for the guy you put so much effort into making me want dead.

Some people like their SNK-Level Boss, some people aren't. It's a matter of taste.

Though I must admit getting clobbered down with character that, basically, a normal con artist tend to left some biter taste.

If there's any consolation at least Dampierre's low tier... or would that make it worse... he's not a guest so it looks like he's here to stay if Namco wants him.

As for guests, I can stand guests that work with the medieval fantasy setting, and I consider lightsabers and special powers to be fine, so the only real problem I have is with Darth Vader's outfit and fighting in an Imperial hangar since it's too "sci-fi" looking and out of place.

Also, no excessively short characters that automatically avoid high attacks please. (e.g. Tekken 3's Gon)

And finally, maybe 1 per game is good.

I figure if you don't like a series character, don't play as them. You can't really control who others play as.

As for guests, there's already 30-40 characters in the series to enjoy, plus a character creator where you can make the likeness of other characters. Again, I'd rather the series do well on its own merits, before the possible inclusion of a DLC guest character, and even then only one that actually fit.

Yeah, none of those people for whom SC is the best game in the series (much of the fanbase), or people like those of us in this thread who recently stated just what got us into this series.

I already see enough of you insisting your way is the only way, and rudely talking down others who disagree, or hollering for posts to get thumped when you're proven wrong, in other threads. Please don't bring that here.

Errrr... you're doing more of the "insisting your way is the only way" here.

But seriously (and this is coming from an SC-guy), the guest characters are clearly a huge draw for a franchise that, let's face it, is struggling. Badly. The SC franchise needs an infusion of fresh blood, and that's a good way to do it.

Mind you, I don't care for the guest fighters. I like the work having its own storyline and its own character. I also want the work to be successful, though. And this topic proves that guest fighters can draw in long-term fans. I mean, this topic is shockingly active for a random thread on a series that hasn't had a game for years, and a game that wasn't nearly universally disliked for nearly a decade.

And really, Soul Calibur didn't become truly mainstream until SCII, but that's more because it's the first multi-console release the series had more than anything. The guest fighters definitely helped, though.

I don't think I've been doing that, and have stated in each post that I'm saying what I'd (personally) like to see, but if I'm being insistent, then my bad.

Guests and crossovers aren't inherently a bad thing. While I don't play my copy of MK 9 or SC 2 for Freddy or Link, they certainly aren't unwelcome, in part because they fairly decently fit.

If there were to be a guest character, I'd rather there just be one, that relatively well fit, and wasn't a specific console exclusive.
