Exactly, Milfs are supposed to look a bit more modest. It's indicative of maturity.
I don't mind fanservice either (sure don't sound like it right now) but character background is important too.
Exactly. They basically went out of their way to avoid the mark with Sophitia and sexualize her, no discussion. They tried to give her a weepy backstory by having her have to defend Soul Edge so her daughter doesn't die, but they ruined that by getting rid of Cassandra for SC 5 in a REALLY stupid way, putting Sophitia in that outfit, giving Pyrrha a backstory that's ridiculously contrived and filled with flatout stupid amounts of misfortune, and making Patroklos the most unlikeable protagonist you could get in a fighting game.
I remember the moment it really hit me how fanservicey the Alexandra sisters are even without the increasingly skimpy outfits. I was trying to make a standard "suit of armor with sword and shield" character in SCIV, and started picking up on a lot of dissonance.
Even Xianghua didn't really have that problem as much.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Xianghua's SC 4 first outfit was at least half way decent.
...I liked Sophitia's outfits. Especially 2 and 3, but even 4...
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI was talking about the movesets in addition to the actual costumes (Xianghua's a good example of that because while her outfits tend to be convservative-ish her movements are typically pretty fanservicey), but yeah.
Ivy's the worst when it comes to that, though (imo her, Lizardman and Voldo all the best reasons why the more personality-neutral CAS styles from III should return).
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Maybe it's the nostalgia talking (SC1 was my first Soul game), but I really loved Sophitia's blue tunic look (which extends to her SC2 outfit as well). That splash of deep blue really pops, and makes for great contrast without overwhelming the rest of her outfit. Her SE look I found kind of generic, and her SC3 and 4 outfits were too blatant about her 'warrior of the gods' backstory, I think.
Peace. Pace. Sanity. Check out my DeviantArt! ^_^Yeah, I never got why they just threw out so many styles. A lot of them were pretty fun.
Agreed, it really has a "baker's daughter"/"not really a warrior, but willing to fight" look to it. Her 2P costume, which I think is better looking, is not as good a fit for that character, in my opinion.

I also REALLY wish they would stop playing around with this series and make Soul Calibur 6.
You can't get it wrong if it's the truth!Heyo everyone
I've only played 2 and 5 (and only owned 2), but I think this franchise is pretty cool, so I joined the thread.
Who's your favourite character to play as? I liked playing as Nightmare in 2 (but with the Siegfried costume).
...I only really played the story in Soul Calibur 5.

I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniKilik was hot shit in II, and is probably my favorite character of the series (although I haven't played 3); Yoshimitsu basically replaced him in IV and V.
Ivy is pretty cool, too, but her coolest stuff has always been harder to pull off. At least her moveset's pretty good in V. It was cool but tricky in II and nigh-unusable in IV.
Never been big on Nightmare's movesets, but Siegfried's is awesome in IV and V.

i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, babySiegfried/Nightmare's been my main since SC 1. Yoshimitsu is my "I'm fucking around for fun" choice. Misturugi is my "I'm going to charge through your ass" choice. Xianghua's my "Perverse Sexual Lust choice" (from SC 2-onward only, mind you).
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Talim is the most fun actual character for me to play as, but over all, several of the create-a-soul types in III were even more fun.
The sad, REAL American dichotomySomeone please bring back Giradot's Lance class.
-Helicopters away-
One of my favorites. Others were Wave Sword, Iron Sword, Katana and Shuriken, and Kunai. Grieve Edge was an interesting one, as was Staff. Katana itself was fun for... when you look at a katana user, you don't immediately think Wrestler in All of Us.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyTalim is also another one of my favorite characters behind the Alexandra sisters. She's fast and can hit hard depending on what moves you use. The problem with her is that she's light and can get knocked around a bit.
Plus she's completely freaking adorable.
You can't get it wrong if it's the truth! So I just realized that out of the 6 total characters in story who've wielded Edge and Calibur (3 for each sword), Siegfried is on both lists.
After all he's been through, I wonder if he might have the potential to overcome both blades and end then once and for all. Sure, he lacked the will before, but he's grown a lot since then.
One Strip! One Strip!I was looking up info on Ashlotte and Salia, because they're minor characters I'd have loved to see be playable, and I found "Gisele", who would've been much cooler than Dampierre.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThing is compressed to shit. Is she the blurry red-headed person in purple with a crossbow? I'm guessing, 'cause I can't make out her name anywhere.
i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, babyOh wow... when I clicked from the wiki page for Salia (which I recommend you do), it was full size and very readable. Yeah, she's the one. She has a crossbow/dartgun, though that would be a little problematic as a primary weapon in this game.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyLike Ezio, but maybe worse. :/
Then again, Ivy and Viola kinda need their space when they're fighting, too, so I guess that part of a fighting style isn't as bad as all that.
Reloading it, though... and in melee (except Ezio doesn't reload his, so I dunno; that'd cetainly be a lot more jarring if the crossbow was a large part of the moveset. Come to that, Cervantes never reloads, either).

The sad, REAL American dichotomySo elegant.
Weapon swapping is always fun.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!A webcomic serving as an extended prologue to Darth Vader, Yoda, and The Apprentice/Starkiller/Galen Marek's appearance in SCIV.

Maybe they were trying to show that she's a mother, and I guess her default in SC 1 and 2 does kind of indicate that, but then they didn't miss so much as flatout avoided the mark by changing her from a mother into a generic MILF. She doesn't even LOOK like a mother in SC 4, just a generic weepy chick dressed in practically nothing.
