Political issues related to Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) are also considered on-topic here if there's no more appropriate OTC thread for them.

- There is a dedicated thread to discuss LGBTQ+ rights in the United Kingdom. That doesn't mean it's always off-topic here, but unless something's directly linked to political events, that's probably a better thread for it.
- There's also a separate thread to talk about your favourite British Prime Ministers.
Recent political stuff:
- The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
- Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
- The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

Seriosly, though, if you want to increase your respect and empathy for the events in question, I suggest the game Valiant Hearts. It's really one of the most moving stories out there. And it's got killer soundtrack. And it's so damned well-designed. It's just an excellent game.

There is a rumour in the Sun that Boris tried to buy Andrea Leadsom, but after their meeting a crucial message accepting her terms was entrusted to a Gove supporter so she didn't find out until too late.
The long-time backbencher Paul Flynn MP has become the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons. He says that his promotion is part of a diversity project and he hopes there will soon be all-octogenarian short-lists.
I've disliked him for a long time. I've downright hated many of his policies.
But, he's found a way for me to move to outright despising and loathing him with a passion I didn't realise I could feel about such a sense-deaf worm.
Seriously, he is practically flaming the country while hugging his own pile, right there. Fafnir's got nothing on him. *seethes*

Oh and something on the Corbyn thing, apparently he didn't say "ISIS" but said "Islamic States" as in not ISIS but more Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, I'm sure that the Israeli goverment won't like that comparison either but it's a far cry from an actual ISIS "link" being made as the Time is claiming.

The exact words are "various self-styled Islamic States or organisations" and that sounds like a dog whistle for "ISIS".
However, is right. It's a stupid comparison but the point stands.
EDIT: I'd argue that Israel's government is Jewish — it has one non-Jewish deputy minister (Ayub Kara, who's a Druze) and the majority of its workers are Jewish — but that's beside the point.

It may well be included under the umbrella, but it's an umbrella, plus as pointed out the comparison wasn't of Israel and "self styled Islamic States" but of the absurdity of holding Jews/Muslims responsible for the for mentioned organisations/nations.

Dave Anderson MP is the new Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, having already been appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland four days ago. He represents the constituency of Blaydon in North East England.
I still can't find who they've got as the Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, if there even is one.
